Sunil Gavaskar just said that Wridhi and Dinesh are the best wicket keepers even now in India to play T20 WC. Chachu, aap bas karo!
He meant by wicketkeeping skills and not a WKB but even if thats true, its a shame. Though the team can do away with batsmen who can keep rather than best keepers. Not saying DK is a shoddy batsman but there are ample options around now.

That said, would love to see some specialist keepers at the Test level. I remember being in awe of Jack Russell back in the day. I guess the times have changed though and the teams are inclined to choose the ones who bat better compared to better glovemen even in Test cricket.

Alec Stewart was often picked ahead of Jack Russell so times haven't changed that much.

Rishabh Pant is the name, he should be our wicket keeper for T20 WC and for tests should not be even a question. His presence alone changes everything and we have seen that. That Adelaide test where we were bowled out for 36, Saha played. Pant came in the next match and his inning of 29 in 40 balls where he started attacking the Aussie bowling helped Rahane to go on and score that 100. Sydney and Brisbane is history that followed. 400 runs in that England series that followed.

I would agree for Rishabh the Test player without a doubt but T20I and even ODI seem a bit stretch at the moment. He hasn't done remotely as good in the other formats at the international level as he has in Tests. KL Rahul @5 and Ishan Kishan.

Lets start rewarding players based on current form. Pant has looked good post his injury this IPL. No point going back to DK when we have Pant and Samson as keepers doing well this IPL.

Ishan has done nothing as well and KL post world cup should be overlooked forever. He is past his expiry date since 3 years now.

This is the reason I feel SRH will choke when it matters the most or when conditions are not batting friendly.

I would partially agree with SMG. The keeping abilities of these 2 are good and have the necessary game sense to carry out team strategies effectively.

It is a Halo effect! On what basis does Pant get in/? Past laurels? Somebody(@Fenil) rightly pointed out that Pant in Tests has been an enigma, but we haven't seen similar displays in ODI/T20s.

KL Rahul @5 and Ishan Kishan

Neither please. Can't have his silly face showing a dejected look every time he gets dismissed. No point carrying him to the USA/WI when his strike rate and runs have been pretty poor. Kishan has looked out of sorts, not amongst the runs, neither is his SR that great!

I don’t see how Pant is a question mark when he’s been good in the current IPL season. Ideally the team would be….

Rohit
Jaiswal/Gill/Kohli
SKY
Pant
Rinku
AR #1
AR #2

SRH after their first 7 games in 2022- 5 wins 2 losses.
SRH after 12 games in 2022- 5 wins 7 losses

I am really hoping this season is not a repeat of that. I have been fearing that since the beginning. CSK in Chennai is a tough one so I'm really scared about that too (hopefully I get to watch it in the ground)

I think they might drop Markram now and bring Phillips in. He hasn't been in the runs in very long and has had 1/2 good games at best. And when we needed a Markram-anchor innings the most he has failed. Only issue is I don't see Phillips batting at 3, so they might need to change the batting order (Shahbaz at 3 ??)

Interesting take this. Thought SRH would need Markram all the more on a Chennai wicket against their spinners. BTW, if at all they try Markram for Phillips, Samad is a better bet @3. The guy has a decent technique to play around the game. Shahbaz is a good shout too.
