Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Bravo continues to be so poor and he is considered the only death overs bowler for CSK in this season. Nobody in that CSK lineup is worth being given the death overs. Maybe God save us if we get into a situation in the playoffs where we have a defend a par score on a good batting track.

Dwayne Bravo is a concern atm for Chennai. Willey to replace him in the KXIP game and the qualifiers? That last over was as bad as it can get.

Wiley is worser at the death than Bravo, from what we saw in the earlier games. Willey is also untested with the bat in IPL and Indian conditions So they will rather pray to the heavens that Bravo gets some luck and clicks. Chennai never tried the likes of Monu Kumar (the medium pacer from Jharkhand who is part of the squad) in this season at all. Maybe they could have tried him to see if he can be their Joginder or Mohit from earlier seasons. Now that bus has passed!

Raina better get a good score today. He is one guy who gets into the zone come the playoffs, and we will need all our batting powers to fire in unison, to cover up for our glaring weakness in bowling.

The pitch seems to get slower and slower.. If someone who settles down doesnt play out full innings its gonna be hard...

Billings is absolutely terrible against spin. This is going so pear shaped here. Raina needs to be blamed for that shot. This has already gone to 14 runs per over for the RR. That last over from Bravo to Harshal Patel could be defining.

A 30+ run defeat will drop our NRR. And if KKR win well tomorrow against SRH, huge pressure on us against KXIP to get that Top 2 spot. Safe to say that CSK bowling has lost the match today.

Total bollocks! Over to you, Kushal! You must have something opposing to say!:rolleyes:rolleyes

CSK needs 51 runs in 14 balls and Dhoni is playing test innings.

The kind of bowling CSK had, influenced the decision at the toss. No confidence whatsoever in the spinners on a dry pitch which made Dhoni to chase. And the law of averages had to catch up with CSK who have been winning mostly on luck (a certain RCB fan will constantly argue with me, saying "Oh you need to be in RCB's shoes" :rolleyes)

I wish CSK lose the Top 2 spot and are thrashed in the Eliminator soundly and sent back home. I dont mind that being a CSK fan, because I wouldn't want to win a tournament on this kind of fluke.

As usual you lose it whenever CSK lose. Although this time, your frustration is valid. I simply didn't understand their game plan with the bat. Their was no intent in the top 6 overs and Dhoni went back into his depressing mode of batting. Rayudu and Jadeja proved that it was not an impossible wicket. I think from a bowling POV, Dhoni needs to back his spinners more. He needs to show more faith in them which he clearly isn't and I think we are seeing the last of Bravo. He's become a liability at the death and forget this year, CSK needs to find someone for the future. It's bad enough to leak runs because of lack of Indian quicks from one end at the death but it's outright disaster if even Bravo starts doing the journey. One thing I will say- They haven't qualified on fluke. No matter what you say..

CSK is now on +0.220 and KKR is on -0.091. A good win (by 3-4 overs if chasing or by 20-25 runs if defending) by KKR tomorrow against SRH, will push KKR equal or above CSK. Then CSK will be playing in that last match for the Top 2 spot. And if luck doesn't favor them and they don't make the Top 2, their IPL will be over either in the Eliminator or in Qualifier 2 (depending on, in which game does luck desert them).

The way Dhoni talks about the Eliminator in the post match interview, maybe Dhoni is resigned to the fact that CSK won't make the Top 2 and will play the Eliminator match?

A win by Sunrisers against KKR would be good to see ahead of the playoffs. Personally, Basil Thampi from the beginning didn't seem much, playing for GL he was way too expensive. He bowled ok whenever he played, which could be attributed to the fact that other bowlers put pressure off him and allowed him to perform. Never a fan of this guy, I really hope to see Khaleel Ahmed play. I think he would add a nice variety to the attack in absence of Bhuvi. He's rumored to also hit 140+ consistently (saw this in a video). I might be too harsh, I think if Bhuvi is rested Thampi should not play. He's been underwhelming in the past and justified this against RCB, where he could've bowled better obviously.

This is probably the best lineup for SRH going into the playoffs.

Dhawan
Hales
Williamson
Pandey
Hooda
Shakib
Goswami/Saha (know nothing about Goswami)
Rashid
Bhuvi
Kaul
Sandeep

It's good to see Manish Pandey finally score a knock that that was above a S/R of 110. But still, SRH could've still won that RCB game if Pandey hadn't wasted 12 balls for 6 and at least gave Williamson the strike. Hopefully he hits form at the right time now. Hooda needs to be sent at 5. This might mean Shakib being dropped to 6, but he can still play a finisher role in any case. Hooda's batting is the missing link in the middle overs. Someone who can consistently go after the attack and keep the runs flowing.

Bowling's lost its sweet rhythm that it had throughout the tournament in the last two-three matches. Not a good sign for SRH, they need to turn that around.

In no logical terms would one say that KKR are likely to beat SRH by that kind of margin. I think KKR right now would grab your arm off if they were just offered a win. Logic at this present moment also suggests that the Super Kings should cruise to a win against the Kings XI. And it's amazing how you have already written your team off and labelled their success off as a fluke/luck. CSK are the gold standard in this competition. MI have won 3 titles but anyone who has watched them over the years will tell you that they're the benchmark. Their game goes to an all new level in the playoff's. Yes, there is a definite worry in the bowling dept. specially the death and Dhoni's reluctance to use his spinners but they're not flaws that can't be ironed out. I think Dhoni will be able to optimise everything come play off's again bar the death bowling. I'm really worried about that aspect. I think the sting has gone out of Bravo.

Clarke absolutely tore into Maxwell yesterday. Ripped him to shreds on live TV. Didn't mince his words and essentially said he's not good enough to play for Delhi and that the team have been wasting their time with him.

Dugout I believe. Not entirely sure about the precise timing but it was in the early part of the DD innings. Maybe it's my memory exaggerating it but I recall the criticism being quite fierce. Also name-dropped Jason Roy as a player who should've played more than Maxwell or said even a young Indian lad could've played instead of him.
