Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Oh you don't have to worry about monsoon season - at least for a major part of the country. It hardly rains even during the monsoon season :p

I was speaking with an Indian chap this morning (works for Sky TV) and he was explaining this, how the monsoon affects more places like Kolkata and Chennai.

Though I'm sure there must have been an IPL washout somewhere down the years in Hyderabad?

Also, yesterday's game in Bengaluru which had the potential of a super over finish reminded me that in all of last year's competition there wasn't one!

I would love to see Abhishek Sharma more in action saw some glimpses of him in the last year when he played for DD , got traded this year in SRH alongside Nadeem and Shankar for Dhawan.

Hearing rumors that Kohli barged into the match referee's room and had quite a few words to say, on that no-ball incident last night. If true, BCCI should ban him for a few international games. Such a drama queen (he is, irrespective of whether this rumor is true or not). And he says "Oh this is IPL and not club cricket, and so these errors should not happen". Wake up kid! This is indeed club cricket. Just because a lot of people watch it doesn't mean it does not become club cricket.

Watched the highlights of last night! ABD is such a monster and his big hits are probably the most gorgeous looking of any in recent times. Even Kohli pales in comparison. And I couldn't believe Yuvraj was going for the "6 sixes" (probably he wanted to trigger up nostalgia of that Durban 2007 knock against England). He already got 3, which was a big bonus against a bowler like Chahal. Considering the stage of career he is in, I'd have buckled in for a long innings if I was in his shoes.

Slow pitch and Rahane struggling. If he wants to make a comeback in the limited overs team, he has to somehow overcome this weakness.

Poor captaincy from Rahane. The way Warner was going and the way Archer bowled, it was the time to bowl him through.

Willey wouldn't get a gig for CSK anyway the pie-chucker. I told him so on Twitter last season. So a bit of a sniff for Royals at one stage but that was always the Sunrisers game. As for Jofra Archer...

and Jofra Archer, who was recently quoted as saying he considered himself to beamong the world’s top three bowlers in the T20 format

I don't know - he thinks he is better than he really is.

WTH? David Willey is also now out of the IPL

CSK seriously needs a replacement overseas seamer now. Get someone who can bowl at the death, most importantly. Maybe replace both Willey and Ngidi, but at least one would be needed. CSK can't go on without both, especially when it comes to flatter and higher scoring pitches. So far, Chepauk and Kotla has saved CSK.

When Ngidi got injured, I think CSK were in a bit of trouble because as good as Ngidi is, he was bought at only 50 lac which was his base price in 2018 auction. However, with Willey making himself unavailable, they actually can replace him with someone worth the highest base price which is 2 crore because that was Willey's base price. They now can get a proper bowler and a decent all-rounder if they are really looking for a replacement. So far, there hasn't been any indication from their camp that they are actually looking for replacement which is strange since the fast bowling stock of CSK is very thin. They need a proper overseas fast bowler who they can rely on and perfrom like the way Ngidi did for them in the last season.

TBH, I would be very keen to have someone like James Pattinson who has been in brilliant form off late and can bowl some absolute rockets. Again, it all depends on what the management is actually looking for. I don't think they need to go for anymore spinners since they have enough of those in the squad. Go for a fast bowler and a fast bowling all-rounder if possible.

Oh yes I forgot about the 'base price' thing. Willey pulling out actually gives CSK the option to spend 2 crores (instead of the 50 lakh they spent on Ngidi) and get a good pacer. I really wish they focus hard on finding a seamer who is genuinely fast, and has the control to bowl very tight at the death. That has been the Achilles heel for CSK. If they get that, they should be in good shape. Ngidi came in late last season and bloomed. Wonder who would it be this season. I doubt they will look for a replacement for Ngidi if they get one for Willey. I am sure CSK is thinking that they can do with their spinners this season, which I dont think will be the case. I am sure they will hit quite a few flat and hard pitches and they need a fast seamer who has good control.
