Indian Premier League - General Discussion

It has nothing to do with millennial or things about decade ago. That was a painful innings to watch from Tewatia even Samson refused single up until the point decides to whack Cottrell out of the park for the 5 sixes in an over.

Credit to Tewatia for maintaining his composure despite the horror start he has not many infact hardly anyone would have turned it around except him.
You're right. 9 out of 10 innings that start like Tewatia's end up with that first six going straight to a fielder instead and the his team losing the match.

Jofra Archer is going to end up a legend, more so in T20 cricket. The guy's incredibly difficult to score against no matter how small the ground is or how flat the pitch is. And when the guy comes out to bat, he whacks sixes around like it's child's play.

Meanwhile Samson has already done something similar to what Pooran did.
I think what made Pooran's effort look spectacular was the fact that he also did a 360 in there, sort of as an added bonus. But boy it was incredible to watch what he achieved in a span of 1-1.5 seconds.

Coming to the match, no doubt Tewatia turned it around. But Samson was the unfortunate causality in the process. He might feel he was probably robbed off a century. He did get the MoM so that's some consolation there.

this shows how intolerant and critical we as an individual have become, wouldn't have been the case in last decade

this decade has messed up with the lives and thought process of millennials to be honest
Man, no disrespect intended, but this isn't a scenario of over-the-top reaction or anything. T20 game with a target of 220+ isn't the place to play at the strike rate of 70 and settle in consuming the first 20 odd bowls, while the non-striker is smashing everything. And the poor man at the end is forced to refuse easy singles.

Everyone would've reacted the same way. Agarwal, Samson, and Pooran at the end saved him, otherwise, RR would have still lost, even if he had smashed Cottrell for 9 sixes.

The first 15 deliveries he faced could've easily spoiled Agarwal, Smith, and Samson's brilliance.

Just like @Bigby Wolf said, at the start, it was painful and frustrating to say the least, because he was hogging the strike

I don't get the 'look at how critical and reactionary' we all are take and 'back in the good old days we were all nice' when in the past we had burnt effigies, stone pelting and absolute physical violence in addition to all of that. I would rather have a couple of hot premature takes by a bunch of nobodies on the internet compared to that. I'm also pretty sure that Simon Doull and Michael Slater are not millennials either when they were slagging off Tewatia so that was a weird dig at this gen too. People haven't become critical overnight, they've always been this way but nowadays have the tools to make their current thoughts instantaneously known which was not possible in the past. Tewatia's innings was once in a lifetime stuff too given the context of the game (small ground, batting surface, lack of death bowlers and the fact that Tewatia would have been long gone if he wasn't so bad in the first twenty balls that he couldn't even hit to be out). An outstanding knock in the end but something that will not be replicated in the near future.

I praised Smudge for the bold call of going with a bunch of hitters instead of a proper batsman but having only Uthappa in there after the top three changes things. On a bigger ground where you need better hitting alongside proper batting, they should bring in Miller for Curran and find out if Jaishwal is fine with a middle order role. Tyagi is another potential prospect to replace one of the underperforming domestic pacers. As for Punjab, they need Jordan back ASAP in place of Maxi. Love the bloke but it is clear that he forgets how to bat in the IPL for some reason.

Looks all of us have forgotten what Shane Watson did in 2018 Final. He too was struggling for his first 20 deliveries after which he just took off and went on to score a century that too in a Final match against one of the strongest bowling sides in the IPL. So what Tewatia did wasn't for the first time. And nothing to take away from Tewatia as he played beautifully in the end but I still wonder whether he does suit for the position he was batting.

True but surely there's a difference between a well established pure batsman and one who is relatively unknown. What Tewatia did yesterday was absolute gold. Don't think that comparison is a fair one to be honest.

Those 40 odd-minutes were so painful to watch as a viewer - imagine what he had been going through if we, as viewers, were feeling sorry for the guy. I mean it's nothing short of a dramatic movie climax.

That was something what I absolutely missed out on. I agree with you it would've been difficult for him to get going after what he had been to in last 30 minutes and there actually came a period where his own team-mates were furious with him which puts even more pressure on him. And after all that happened he still was able to hit the ball like that was something incredible.

No one will talk about this but the game was won by Ankit Rajpoot and Tom Curran yesterday.

I just hope for Tewatia, this was not it. Hope he can continue batting like this and the match only gives him more and more confidence.

Just now watched a video wherein ABD was in Keeper's gears in the team practice session. Seems that Phillipe won't be playing today, Morris will play instead. Will have to wait and see....

Adam Zampa gets his debut match for RCB, god save this team. No Morris yet....
