I mean since he was bowling well in the later part of the tournament, Cummins was not going anywhere. Starc would be a great addition since he was last with KKR before he got injured and then missed 2018 due to insurance issue and did not participate in 2019 and 2020.KKR's issue is the obsession with Narine. He is not a batsman, at least not for the big occasion and I don't think he's someone who could destroy a team even on a rank turner. He is also unfit and the constant scrutiny around his action is an added issue. When you add to this the Russell fitness which is like the stock market KKR's overseas locker is rather bare. Cummins is a good purchase but not for that price. It isn't about the cricketer earning that much, it's about spending 20% of your purse on one player. If you add Narine and Russell then that's 40% on 3 players.
KKR should have gambled on releasing Cummins and look to buy him cheaper and may be even get Richardson if they couldn't get Cummins back. In the next auction cycle, KKR and DC will start strongest as they have all the riches in terms of young talent. It's just that they need a more balanced overseas lot and I for one don't subscribe to Morgan the captain. It means he has to play.
I am over Narine as a player. He is no longer a match winner. At best he will contribute as others but will still hog all the limelight. Its time KKR looks past him and help a fellow Indian get into form in Kuldeep. KKR can become the next MI if they handle all the domestic players well since they have some serious talent in Tripathi, Gill, Mavi, Nagarkoti, Prasidh, Rana, Siddhesh Lad, Sandeep Warrier, Chakravarthy. I agree Eoin should not be a long term captain since it would mean one of the 4 overseas is him. If we can get a current Indian rockstar in this team, someone like what Gambhir was that would help KKR tremendously.
