Last year, the batting was in a mess. This year, it looks like the bowling is going to be in a mess. Bravo clearly shows on the field that he is way past it. The commentators rightly pointed out that he has lost his speed and so the variations between his top speed and his 'slower ball' has shrinked significantly enough that the batsman feel more confident now of handling his slower balls. The fact that he looked CSK''s best bowler today, sheds awful light on CSK's bowling resources.
The game was lost in that batting Powerplay (the first 6 overs). Unless CSK go hammer tongs in those 6 overs and do not target 60+ runs, they will never set a defendable score. They were clearly 25-30 runs short today and while CSK scored 33/2 in the PP, Delhi scored 65/0 (almost double the score). Ruturaj is a timing oriented player and he seriously cannot play at the Wankhede where more risks need to be taken. Faf can play if he gets a basher at the other end. Either Moeen Ali moves up to open or Uthappa comes in or Rayudu is tried at the top (Jagadeesan is another chance if SMAT form is given importance; Jagadeesan tends to be more adventurous than Rutu based on the innings of his that we saw against RCB last season). Ruturaj can open in places like Delhi and maybe Kolkata. Maybe Ruturaj batted that well in those last 3 games because the qualification pressure was off CSK. He yet again looked nervous today reminding of those initial games. Cant wait for CSK to be thrown out so that he can come in and make easy runs.
