Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Inspite of those regular Captaincy blunders I am not going to write off a shocking possibility of RCB making the Final. They've also got a lot of things that can actually go their way

Maxwell is onto a purple patch this season and so as Harshal Patel. DDP have done decently well while KS Bharat coming from a dream knock like that could mean a lot of positives. I think AB de Villiers would've got accustomed to the conditions by now so we can expect something special from him if he bats no below than 4. Virat-the batsman needs to deliver!

Virat
DDP
KS Bharat
ABD
Maxi
Christian
Shahbaz
Garton
Harshal
Siraj
Chahal

That looks a strong line-up tbh. In my view DC shouldn't write off RCB either.

An unbelievable match! I was glued to the screen for most of the game- doesnt happen too often these days. The way I see it, CSK should take the trophy, they are almost unbeatable in finals.

The only opposition to them- KKR- and I have a feeling that Morgan, will finally strike gold in the coming games to lead his side to victory. As most people pointed out, DC seem beaten and for them to put forth a rousing performance, it will take a massive effort.

RCB- I expect them to lose today. Dunno why- but I do!

KKR seems to be over-reliant on their top 3 so a good start from a bowling's perspective from an opposition means there are chances of a disaster in a knockout game. But it looks difficult at this stage. Taking right decisions at right time is going to be crucial!!

Can't understand why pundits and some peeps were going hoo-haa about Shardul. He played 1 ball. A month ago, he was hitting the ball as good as anyone in the world. It had it's logic and it wouldn't have been the difference between winning and losing for CSK.

People are going on about Rabada but he could have gone the journey as well. The real question is why Iyer was succeeded by Pant as the permanent captain?

As I have said in numerous posts here and India topics. We find a cricketer, we immediately run a parallel narrative to a legend and then hopelessly hope for history to repeat itself. We do not have the tolerance for a new story/journey until it roars in front of our face. To sight an ironical example here, Rishabh Pant the test cricketer. Iyer was easily the most visibly astute captain of the current lot. BUT, we are looking for the next Dhoni and cannot wait to make him more powerful than Kohli so let that be Pant.

Well said on Shardul! He came out with a clear mandate to go after it from ball one! And when you approach it like that, there are times when it won't click. It was another wide which he could've left alone, but hey, numerous times when batsmen go after wides and connect it very well. I think even DC's move to send Axar was a good one because their batting got lighter and they wanted to have Pant-Heytmer bat during the business end of their innings and it worked, even though the Axar experiment was called a failure.

I still think it was a very weird call to go for Curran over Rabada, but I see why they chose Curran. The guy got 2 wickets in an over off some good "change of pace" deliveries and it was that over which tilted things heavily in favor of Delhi. I guess Pant and the DC management would've thought maybe it was Curran's day and gave him that final over. But in that case, Rabada should've bowled the 19th over instead of Avesh, who was super expensive yesterday (his first two overs went for 27). Modern day T20 wisdom says you bowl your best bowler for the 19th. Avesh was the worst bowler for DC yesterday. It was overall some weird captaincy moves by Pant.

And on that - initially you couldn't rate Pant's captaincy at all because of the kind of side that DC stacked up. Thats why many of us didn't have an opinion about his captaincy. But from what we've seen in these two games, not filling me up with confidence at all. He looks like another KL Rahul, who needs to be left alone to focus on their main skill (batting). Pant even said during the toss that he was pretty nervous and then he sorta reworded it positively in a way that we all do in our job interviews :D
