Given they could've bought lots of different players it seems random enough to be part of an overall plan. He's basically a mystery medium pace bowler who can offer some late innings batting. I'd expect he's there as a back up for Odean Smith.

So the Royals have somehow assembled a stacked squad in the end. The main worry would be the lack of a proper bowling all-rounder who can hold his own at seven coupled with the lack of batting depth down the order. They do have a very strong top five to make up for that though.
