Indian Premier League - General Discussion

I see more and more players are going to opt out. The long ass tournament is going to be boring. Either have double headers most of the days or loose your brand value. Staying in bubble for 60 days for a T20 tournament is crazy.

It will be an overkill. The best option is to divide them into groups of 5 each from which the Top2 progress to the knockouts.

Planning to go to the Wankhede, literally since 2020. Wish me luck guys! If not Wankhede then the DY Patil or the CCI. At least one game this year!

Would you like to sponsor my ticket as well?
Come along! We'll meet and leave together. My concern is it would only be after 16 may as there is a function in my house.

So you are agreeing to sponsor my ticket? :lol

Unbelievable! Only 25% crowds for IPL? Maharashtra cases are down 300x from their peak, which was a month ago. The drop in cases has been dramatic and yet only 25% crowds?

Hope they increase it as the tournament progresses! This is Omicron for god's sake, which is definitely proven to be milder than Delta (in terms of causing severe illness)
If anything happens who is going to take the responsibility?
We all know the case numbers presented online are not correct. Even if one life might get affected I wouldn't ask for entertaining crowds.

Because people know about this virus enough now to choose their own risk factor. Life has to go on! The wave has drastically subsided. Theatres are functioning at 100%. Other stadiums are letting in more than 25% crowd (Bangalore is going to let 50% for the Ind-SL games). Life is getting back to normal very fast in the past few weeks. And the IPL is still 4 weeks away.

India has done much better due to the immunity acquired from the deadly Delta and the ongoing vaccination. Omicron is a much milder virus. And I’m going off Google numbers (not any Indian website case nos). Even if they are not accurate, ground reality is showing up with life reopening up to normalcy everywhere in India (read the news).

Life has to go on!
Definitely, but life doesn't end if you (not you you) can't see a match.
Viewing a match is a luxury. First thing should be bringing the bare necessities back to normal before covid like working of hospital and all. They are struggling still and any more is torture.
The government here is playing very smartly and taking extra care, one of the few times they are thinking of the people and that shouldn't be a thing to complain about.

Bangalore is going to let 50% for the Ind-SL games
Mohali is empty for the other match. Different states, different governments they all hav different needs.

They are struggling still
And who says so Maharashtra is struggling? Even theatres & malls are working at almost full capacity. Things over here are almost like normal and the fear has almost reached at the lowest point. There are hardly 70 cases being reported over here in the last 24 hours. I think even at present we are good to be hosting matches involving crowds with lenient Covid protocols in place.

Well, this is what I was harping about... The fall in cases has been pretty dramatic. Also theaters are in closed environments where the risk of virus is higher. Stadiums are outdoors where the risk of contracting the virus is far lower (scientifically catching the virus indoors is greater).

If Maharashtra is really so careful, BCCI could've tried other places in India or just moved the tournament back to UAE for the entire part. Crowds are the most important part of the cricketing atmosphere and when everything else is functioning normally, it makes no sense to restrict cricket crowds to such low numbers (50% would be acceptable). Before someone asks, yes I find it stupid that Mohali test is happening behind closed doors.
