Indian Premier League - General Discussion

In my honest opinion, world is past COVID fatigue. We are living our lives as normal. Is Covid gone? Absolutely not and will never go. I however feel that when bi-lateral series are played with open doors and crowds, IPL should be played with open crowds. Each and every individual whether believer or non believer of covid now knows the risks and precautions. Let people decide and do not impose any more rules for them. Also having IPL in 4 grounds is absolutely bollocks! IPL should have been played all around India. You know what made UAE IPL boring? Seeing the matches in the same stadium again and again.

IPL in different grounds with different crowds is what makes IPL IPL!!!! 2 things BCCI got it wrong, more matches means more boredom and losing more fans and IPL not being played on all venues. I am sure all the playoffs will be played in Ahmedabad.

Yep. It's crazy that IPL is not being held in its original form, with all grounds in India. The world and India is moving past this virus very quickly. Endemic behavior has already kicked in. There is nothing called "Zero COVID" thats even remotely possible and we've to live with this virus. We already saw that it caused way less damage during Omicron than it did during Delta, because the population acquired immunity during Delta that brought down severity during Omicron. Now with Omicron out of the way, the population's immunity levels get stronger and more hybrid due to Omicron adding on top of it. If and when a new variant comes in, it has to be more severe than Delta AND more transmissible/infectious than Omicron, to create a big wave (even if it misses on one, it ether gets outcompeted or is not severe).

I've an anxious feeling about all playoffs in Ahmedabad. A game or two is ok, but all games there can possibly be snooze fest. Ahmedabad pitch seems notoriously slow and sluggish (it makes Chepauk look a batting beauty :D ).

There are 11..... Yes 11 different pitches in Motera!!!
That does not make IPL any more interesting. I am already bored with that stadium just because the number of matches we have had. But hey.. we are common man and women. Have entire IPL, BBL, PSL, CPL, The Hundred at NAMO Stadium.. what do I know? :p

With the BJP in power, expect more matches to go to Ahmedabad. In all probability, the CWC 2023 Final will be held there, over more deserving venues.

I agree, the stadium is an overkill and hasn't really accounted for some memorable matches until now. Instead of the 11 pitches, I would have been far happier had they focused on making it one of the best batting tracks/ bounciest tracks. Stadiums in India do lack this kind of categorization (Nagpur & BLR are exceptions though)

There are flat/bouncy pitches available. Infact the 3rd ODI between India & West Indies was played on a seaming track that had slightly more bounce than usual Indian pitches. The first game was on a flat track.

2020 vibes coming all over for CSK! Deepak is going to miss most of the season, Ruturaj's wrist injury and its impact is unclear.

I still think Ruturaj will recover in time and hopefully assume the lead role. Filling Deepak's shoes is going to be a bit of a challenge. I think CSK should open with Uthappa and Ruturaj, and pack the bowling department with overseas bowlers like Milne, Bravo and Pretorius (all of whom can bat). Which means Conway doesn't get to play as much.

We will likely need a fourth Indian seamer who can bowl fast and partner Milne in the Powerplays. We've Rajvardhan, Simarjeet, Tushar, Asif, Mukesh. If we want a guy who can bat, Rajvardhan is the best bet but he is very raw and just has the U-19 exploits to back him up. If we want more experienced guys, Asif or Tushar will fit that bill. I dont know what pace Mukesh bowls at, but he is a left armer which gives variety. Simarjeet is known to crank up in the 140+ and his domestic T20 economy looks really good (7.45). CSK have options for the 4th seamer.

So... M Chinnaswamy stadium (Bangalore) throws the stadium open for 100% crowds for the upcoming pink ball test vs Sri Lanka (Source: https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/...0-stadium-capacity-for-bengaluru-test-1304805). But Maharashtra is going to allow only 25% crowds for a 3 hr IPL game.

Absolute bollocks!! Cases are at an all time low, Omicron and Delta has already waded through big chunks of the population, vaccination numbers have kept rising and are currently at pretty healthy levels for a population like India. What India needs is standardized rule across the country that sets stadium limits. And that should be atleast at 75% (since stadiums are outdoors and open air).

Maharashtra needs to sustain the IPL for a month. Bengaluru only needs to sustain this test for 5 days.

I feel, this could be a BCCI dictat, as they really do not want to shift the IPL out again and invite the ire of the public.
