Let me first start off by saying that the names CSK and MSD are and will always remain synonymous as long as either exists. This day was going to come sooner or later- especially in the aftermath of his international retirement and fans would definitely dread the time when MSD hangs up his boots from CSK.
I had earlier made a comment about the 'timing' of this decision. If, as claimed, this was in the works earlier, MSD could have let Jadeja run the show in a few games last year. Jaddu is a novice when it comes to captaincy and may have the calibre, but should have been given a few chances. Personally, am not sure he's up to filling MSD's shoes and CSK may very well look for another option in a year or two. Now, if MSD new he was going to step aside this season, they could have built up the captaincy options last year itself.
To give it up a day before the tournament- especially in the year that most teams start afresh is a bit weird. The management could have sat down with the new captain and discussed on the structure of the team. This way it just seems as though MSD will remain in psuedo-charge of this team. The current team too has many defining characteristics of MSD. With a new captain at the helm, it is essential to break down the initially though out biases. Yes, there have been teams that have changed captains mid-way and it has worked. But remember, these guys left an indelible mark on their teams in the coming years- CSK shouldn't lose out on a year trying to get things right here.
