Indian Premier League - General Discussion

So, Ishan Kishan was brought into the Indian team because he played quickly at the top of the order. I know he has been out of form, but he has been piss poor, to say the least.

It will be interesting to see how our final 11 will look when we play that T20 series against South Africa in June. Some of the players are playing a completely different role to what they are assigned when they play for the Indian team.

- Kishan is not playing the role he will supposedly play IF he is selected in the final 11 in the Indian team.
- Pant was brought into the team to provide the x-factor in the middle order, but he has completely changed his game and is playing slower than usual.
- Hardik is coming in to bat at 3 or 4, but there is zero chance he will bat at that position once he comes back into the team.
- Jadeja is batting a position higher than where he will be in the Indian team.
- Kohli and Rohit are in a horrible form (of course, we are not going to drop them, but if they continue to struggle, it will be interesting to see how we deal with that situation).

It feels weird because they are all gun batsmen and yet, it feels all chaos when they come together for the Indian T20 team because apart from Rohit and Kohli, none of them play the role they are asked to play in the Indian team.

The World Cup is still 5 months away & I am glad unlike last year its not just 2 weeks after the IPL that on similar conditions.

Some of the players who got picked last year where in terrible form not only in the WT20 but also the IPL leg played in Dubai.

The likes of Bhuvi, Shami, Rahul Chahar, H Pandya to name a few for example.

The Selection Committee once again is gonna play a key part in selecting the key part on deciding our fate in the tournament unfortunately they did not have the balls to take the crucial decisions over the last few years.

They have few series and good 5 months to pick the final 15 , one would hope they starting picking the right one from the SA series and start fixing the loopholes before the main event itself.

I think it's too early to jump on that drop Kohli/Rohit bandwagon. They have struggled in IPL but their performance for India have been far better!

These are Rohit's score in last 12 innings (most recent first)-
5(9), 1(2), 44(32), 7(15), 19(18), 40(19), 56(31), 55(36), 48(36), 56(37), 30(16) & 74(47)

He played 3 innings against West Indies, 3 against Sri Lanka, 3 against New Zealand and 1 each against Namibia, Scotland & Afghanistan. He scored 3 consecutive scores in excess of 40 against New Zealand in a series that India won 3-0. In this period he averages 36.25 with a SR of 145.97. He scores a 50+ every 3rd innings of his. Those are pretty good numbers!

Onto Kohli,
In last 14 innings (most recent first):-
52(41), 17(13), DNB, 2*(2), DNB, 9(17), 57(49), 80*(52), 1(5), 77*(46), 73*(49), 0(5), 85(61), 40(24)

He played 2 innings against West Indies, 1 against Scotland, 1 against New Zealand, 5 against England & 3 against Australia while he did not bat against Namibia & Afghanistan.

SR is definitely an issue but I am confident that he can up his game come the WT20. That innings against Pakistan seemed a little slow but he was definitely showing intent to go after the bowling. It's just that they were so good that day with the ball that Kohli couldn't help the scoring.

In that England series he looked in a terrific form scoring 40 or in excess of 40 in 4 out of 5 occasions! Also he scored a 50 in about every 2nd innings. While he averages 61 with a SR of 135.43 in this period. Again, pretty good numbers.

So I guess IPL performances alone shouldn't be the criteria to selection for T20Is.

It must have taken a lot from Pollard to not react on Krunal's actions. Yes, they seem to be the best of buds but Pollard absolutely didn't look in the mood.

I think MI should just as well hand Arjun his debut. What more can go wrong for them? At least this would result in some anticipation + publicity for them.

They really need to take some strong decisions here. I would be glad if they went the 2007 way. That way, atleast the expectations aren't what they are made out to be. Dropping Kohli and Rohit for this might not be a bad idea. Let a new team take shape and challenge the world here.

Let us be clear..... In 2007 most of the teams did not have any idea about they way to approach this format. There was a reason why the current Champions lost to Zimbabwe in the first edition of WT20.

Infact many sides did not even had players who were specialist for the T20 format. It would be absolutely insane to follow that 2007 approach and sorry we cannot expect a team without Kohli & Rohit to handle the pressure of an ICC event.

Let us come to 2021 rather than glorifying our past achievements. Again no disrespect to what they achieved back in the day but currently the circumstances are a lot different than in the past. Rather than just throwing arguments about India having talent why not directly come up with a name and a specific role?

If it's about form than even Hardik can replace Kohli-the batsman and let SKY bat at 3 since Hardik have scored 3 consecutive 50s.

Rohit and Kohli are playing an outdated version of T20. We need someone like Buttler at the very top. The problem with India is that we accord demi-God status to most players, thereby rendering them as 'undroppable'. This needs to stop!

You needed names- Open with Shaw and KLR. Give them license to go hard at the opposition from the 1st delivery. The way Kohli bats in T20- better to have SKY/ Shreyas in that position. They are atleast in form and tend to score quickly than him.

I agree but this isn't happening anyway. I see both Rohit and Kohli performing their best in the international Circuit. Post WC, I think 2023 might be a rethink if the dull run continues but for 2022, if not injured these two are undroppable.

Open with Shaw and KLR.
Now this is as good as opening with Ishan Kishan instead of Rohit in the NZ game. It made things worse for us. We need aggressive but experienced, established players than young players who would come clueless and under prepared in an ICC tournament.

And if it's about being outdated the numbers are in front of you.

Also talking about this one-

India doesn't have a Buttler and they don't need one. That is not to say Buttler is a bad player but the dynamics of a England team is different from that of India. If someone has to be the most aggressive player in India, then it has to be DK who at best is a finisher!

Shikhar Dhawan:

6000 runs in IPL
9000 runs in T20
1000 runs v CSK
