Indian Premier League - General Discussion

@Bevab @SaiSrini @NILAYSHAH60 @Bigby Wolf your thoughts?

I feel giving them a clean slate techinically means you are playing with 12 players.

Something new, will breathe a fresh air but would have been perfect had it not been a clean slate.

For one moment I thought this would be in next year’s IpL.

I’d say it’s an interesting move and the SMAT is probably not the ideal place to trial it given the gulf in quality between many sides which will no doubt favour the bigger teams. It’s certainly better than the BBL’s version and feels like a 12 vs 12 situation without just favouring the chasing team or the winners of the toss. Surely opens up a lot more interesting strategic implications and as of the moment I cannot find a loophole or an exploit in this but given time I have no doubt that many teams will optimise this.

Imagine Bumrah bowls his 4.0 overs and they sub-in Archer to bowl another 4.0, especially if Mumbai's batting runs deep.
Reverse the order and it becomes best suited for Archer. Less fielding = less chance of getting injured again. Just bowl out and bow away.

This could indeed generate a new style of specialists who are primarily geared towards one specific skill, such as the tearaway quick who bowls high 150s for the four overs up front, the specialist finisher who is too good at facing slow and fast bowling at the death, the death overs bowler who is only good at the last five overs and so on.

We haven’t even discussed the possibilities of fielding in this. Imagine being able to bring on your literal 12th man in place of a Gayle or Rayudu to field without them having a tactical niggle. Or imagine a side that can start with a purely specialist keeper who can be subbed off in the second innings if chasing or subbing said keeper in the second innings.

The only issue I can see is that this does diminish the impact of an all-rounder in the playing XI if they are a bit of a no-rounder.

This is fantastic, and i hope it’s implemented globally. Literally no downside to this.

I’d like to see it implemented in action for a few games before it is taken up globally. Might need a few tweaks if there are potential exploits in it.

Ganguly confirms IPL 2023 is going to return back to the "home-and-away" format from pre-covid times

Definitely paves the way for this to be MSD's final season (he has been postponing his IPL retirement to play again at Chepauk one final time, as a thank you to the fans). Hopefully Chennai doesnt make any scene about Theekshana/Pathirana playing at Chepauk and also Chepauk must be done with their renovation and also with their stands issue resolved, a full house will be expected for Dhoni's swansong.

Why will they make a scene?

The age old "Sri Lanka vs Eelam Tamils" conflict. Majority of the folks in Tamil Nadu are anti-Sri Lanka! There was a time when SL players were banned for playing at Chepauk. Here's hoping that time has healed those wounds

Seems some swaps are being discussed at length here

1. CSK to DC: Jadeja for both Shardul+ Axar
2. MI to DC : Kishan for Shaw

#1 sounds stupid. Why does DC want to trade in a superior bowler (Axar) for an inferior bowler (Jadeja)? Axar's batting is also rapidly improving these days. DC management would be idiots to do this swap!

DC would be idiots to do both of those trades. Jadeja for Axar sounds good if Jadeja can bring his international bowling form to the IPL again but adding Shardul into the deal even if they have no use for him currently just makes the deal a lot sweeter for CSK. Kishan offers nothing that DC need now and Shaw is far too unique as a T20 opener for them to consider letting him go (unless he wants to return home).

If these trade happens, how much money will Shardul, Axar, Jadeja, Ishan and Prithvi get in their new franchise?

A new rumour courtesy of TOI is GT trading Lockie for Mavi.

It's a very risky move but if Lockie continues to remain as inconsistent as he currently does it might just payoff. Mavi also needs a new setup IMO to fulfill his potential, KKR's doing him no good.

Looks like the rumors have moved in the past few weeks heavily, about Jadeja staying back with CSK! Makes sense from a CSK perspective since its hard to replace players like him, but I've sorta lost a bit of respect for him with the way he handled the entire show. Lets see what happens. I hope they dont cave in and give him back captaincy. He should never be approached again for captaincy (if he stays(
