Indian Premier League - General Discussion

What a tale to tell for Mohit Sharma?! Once an IPL purple cap winner to India bowler to getting sidelined to getting unsold in IPL auctions to being a net bowler last season for GT to now donning the role of an enforcer in the company of Shami, Rashid et al.

Wow! KLR having the audacity of saying "I don't know how that happened. That happened very fast. I can't believe what has happened". I mean you were there for almost the entirety of the innings. If anyone had an idea of what was happening in the middle, YOU did!

GT have a certain ‘magic’ touch when it comes to players indeed. Saha, Shankar and now Mohit have all been revitalised in this side while Hardik, Tewatia, Gill and Sudharshan have found a new level to their game there. If everything that’s happening there is legit, the Indian team should be looking into getting some of the backroom brains into the national setup fast enough as I don’t think it’s just the Hardik and Nehra effect as many keep claiming.

Absolutely fantastic innings from KL. He stat pads and team loses and its a win win for him! Such a delightful player to watch! He is the new South Africa entirely in himself! Has a wonderful choking capability!

One day he ll break all records just by stat padding..
Shhh! You are not allowed to say that!!

Fair point! I don't think Hardik has such big brains. In fact, I don't even see him as a captaincy material (personal opinion).

Isuspect it's the world winning coach of India - Gary Kirsten who is very calmly giving out the roles/tasks to the individual players to setup a series of brilliance.

You cannot aspect some net bowler come out like this or a virtually nobody from Afghanistan come of age or Vijay Shankar of all people play an amazing innings as he did the other day.

Expect him and Gambhir to be sacked next year. Or even mid season!

The Goenkas do have a history of being ruthless when it comes to management decisions indeed.

I think Gambhir’s being too cute with his lineups and it seems to be a theme with the franchise across leagues. In the SA20 their Durban team also played an excess of all-rounders at the expense of specialists. Having someone like Quinny who is a world class batter on his day and struck a century only a few weeks ago in this format sit on the bench while Mayers, Pooran and Stoinis play ahead of him is absolutely insane despite Mayers’ storming start to the IPL.

And if Rahul is to play in this timid manner I’d rather have him bat at three or four. Gambhir if he’s truly as fearless as he portrays himself in the media should be the first one to have the harsh talk with him and force him to move down the order so that he gets lesser deliveries to play and has to be more proactive.

What perplexing is that LSG have substituted Mayers while bowling though he is a decent bowler. I agree. They need to find a way to draft QDK in but playing him and Mayers would mean KL will have to drop one down where is lesser chance for stat padding.

Also, does anyone have a clue if Mohsin Khan will be missing out the entire season?

Drop KL, get in QDK.

Stoinis can captain need be.
Can't play 5 overseas. Mayers to replace or Pooran?

Hooda isn't doing well so maybe dropping him and playing Rahul in the end overs might work as it does everytime he bats @5/6 for India in ODIs wherein he is pressured to get going from the first ball.

People think Mayers isn’t good with the ball because his pace is slow. The same argument is extended to Mitchell. Yet someone like CdG showed that you can bowl medium pace and still be effective as long as you have accuracy and swing which Mayers does have.

KL staying away from the powerplay as much as possible may not be the worst thing for the team and him. He needs an impetus to bat aggressively which happens in ODIs because he bats at five. Him doing a Markram and dropping down the order in white ball cricket may just revitalise his career and eventual legacy.

As for Mohsin the rumour I heard at the start of the season was that he’d miss more than half with a very likely chance of it being the entirety. Not sure how reliable it is though as he was fit enough to be a net bowler for India a few months ago.

I don’t think KL deserves to be dropped. He needs a clear change in role to better utilise his talent and some mental guidance to clear his head.

That kind of ultra defensive mindset should also be kept far far way from the Indian team.

The bloke is a A class level choker akin to the South Africa team heck even better than them I would say.

Perfect Yorker from Arjun... I didn't expected that... wow, he really improved lot as a bowler... Yograj Singh is proving once again as a coach...

Never said he should be in the Indian T20I side in fairness. Doesn’t deserve to make it on form either like in the past and it’s time to experiment with that side.

But asking him to be dropped from his IPL side is a big overreaction when the next best domestic batter they have is Vohra and their side is suffering due to a lack of specialists in both departments. Plus it’s the IPL, players seldom get dropped even when they’re performing worse than Rahul at the moment because of reasons other than cricket.
