Indian Premier League - General Discussion

RCB should have bought a death bowler instead of Christian.
I actually think Christian is a good pick from RCB. He will be great for providing the fast paced cameos in the lower orders, while also squeezing overs in the middle.

Chris Morris' absolutely burgling a living at this point. Two. Million. Dollars. :lol
At least he performs to his worth, Maxwell's been getting money for no performance :lol

Alex Hales at 2.0 CR with the kind of form he is in was a steal for steal for any franchise looking for openers but goes Unsold.
That is the problem, none of the teams are. And even if they are looking for openers, they go for Indians.

Well... As much as the discussion here is happening on why CSK gave that much money to Gowtham and Ali, you gotta understand that all that matters to the outside person (i.e. the cricket fans) is whether the combination looks better and that the team has attempted to fill the holes that they needed to fill. Those guys provide value with both bat and ball and were expected to be hot picks.

CSK have done that pretty well. They have three off spinners now (Gowtham, Ali, Bhagath Varma). Ali is the overseas allrounder who can hit big. Gowtham is a lower order hitter who has won IPL game or two for Rajasthan before. CSK also got Hari Nishaanth, a TN top order batsman. To me, CSK seem to have filled up their holes pretty well.

RCB, Mumbai and Delhi for me had the best auctions! Jamieson a great scoop. CSK and even SRH probably not the best but then again mujeeb at srh is a good move. Punjab have overspent but they had the money and the Aussie fast bowling duo should be exciting to watch. In for a cracker of a season! Go Morris go

@SaiSrini
I think you forgot to mention him.

CSK can use Puji as an opener. Ruturaj and Puji can play aggressive Cricket.

Is Arjun Tendulkar any good? Or was he picked for the obvious reason?

Seeing how the auction has gone, I would say that only one of Raina or Rayudu CAN PLAY! And Raina will always have a head up over Rayudu purely for his fielding, running between wickets and better aggression (when it clicks). Hope MSD sees the same. Would be interesting if Moeen and Tahir can bowl in tandem along with Jadeja. If Moeen doesn't play, Gowtham will play. Unfortuntately all this does not look good for Sai Kishore. Extremely sad that he has gotten stuck in a team that's not likely to use him.

Pretty sure Christian can bowl at the death. Not the prettiest but hey, I'll take him over Saini and Siraj's beamers.

Not sure if we've watched the same Gowtham, he is very inconsistent and hasn't looked anywhere near the type of form he once showed. Mo himself is a huge question mark with how 'feast or famine' he tends to be. I'm quietly optimistic over him as I believe he can do well if backed properly and in that type of form he is one of the scariest players to bowl to.

I'm still not sure why you're so heavily against Rayudu playing in the side, I'd take 2020 Rayudu over 2019 Raina in a heartbeat.

As expected, not much chatter about SRH, but they have had a pretty decent auction as always. They always tend to stay in the background and still manage to get bargain buys.

They got Mujeeb for 1.5 Cr, which is ridiculous because now they can field one of the best "defensive" bowling line-ups. If they field Bhuvi, Natarajan, Rashid and Mujeeb, good luck to the batting team. They can still play Warner and Williamson/Bairstow in their top order, with Manish Pandey and Kedar Jadhav in the middle order. Of course, they have youngsters like Garg, Sharma and Samad who showed they could be good given the opportunity.

Even with their ridiculous buys, MI will still be the favourite to win the next season, which pisses me off. Did they spend 5 Cr on Coulter-Nile? He is a decent bowler, but I wasn't expecting them to go for him with the injuries and his form going down.

I actually can't wait for the mega auction next year.

Rayudu is horrible between wickets, his fielding is pretty ordinary. Last year it was a pain seeing Watson and Rayudu batting in the same XI and running between wickets like they did... I would take a more fit and agile Raina even if the perception of batting between Raina and Rayudu tilts it slightly towards Rayudu. Believe me, there's not a big difference. Rayudu has also had a big gap between his last intl match and now. Yes he played last IPL when Raina didn't, but Raina has warmed up with SMAT and that should be enough.

Saini was superb in the last 2 years at the deah only in the last few games he looked Jaded. (perhaps carrying a niggle or injury).

Not sure whether you followed or not but that super over against MI with Pollard and Pandya where he conceded 7 Runs also good overall in the death throughout the tournament.

Yes he has problem of bowling few beamers but was pretty consistent in last 2 years and is a very good death bowler to have in the side.

Mumbai's pace strategy genuinely confuses me. On one hand they overspend by a huge margin on NCN (who at least has the 'experience factor') and Milne (when you've got talents like Behrendorff and Thomas sitting out). On the other hand they smartly snap up one of South Africa's biggest pace prospects in years right at the end.

I do recognize I was a bit harsh on Saini having once advocated for his persistent inclusion in the white ball squad but his sudden decline in death bowling abilities after that excellent super over worried me a lot. Doesn't help that he has a very poor captain, he strikes me as the type of bowler who needs proper guidance to truly thrive.
