Indian Premier League - General Discussion

So the Royals have somehow assembled a stacked squad in the end. The main worry would be the lack of a proper bowling all-rounder who can hold his own at seven coupled with the lack of batting depth down the order. They do have a very strong top five to make up for that though.

:bat:Padikkal/Jaiswal (Can only see room for one in this XI)
:wkb:Buttler:os:
:wk:Samson:c:
:bat:Rassie:os:
:bat:Hetmyer:os:
:ar:Parag
:bwl:Ashwin
:bwl:Saini
:bwl:Boult:os:
:bwl:Chahal
:bwl:Krishna

They've still got the likes of Nair, Neesham, Mitchell, McCoy and one of Padikkal/Jaiswal on the bench. This XI if properly managed can win you the title.
I can see them playing Buttler at four because they're Rajasthan. I'd pick Neesham ahead of Van Der Dussen. It'd be Rassie or Hetmyer for the middle order.

MI was terrible in this auction.

The Squad looks quite on paper.

(really?)

Sanju Samson unfortunately for Royals is the very wrong guy to lead the side and be part of making crucial decisions too.

Neesham has always failed to deliver in the IPL for some reason. If he does turn up inform he'd be the second name on the team sheet for me after Jos.

Yeah this is my worry. Their leadership group doesn't inspire much confidence. A shame as they've got a really killer squad on paper.

If only Ashwin would lead a coup and overthrow Sanju....

As for Mumbai, I think people are sleeping on the potential impact Rohit Sharma could make. He has been coasting over the last cycle with everyone else lifting the burden for him. Him bringing his international form to MI could be a huge boon and with the increased responsibility on his shoulder in the absence of middle-order regulars and Quinny I expect fireworks from him.

I'd expect RR to open with Padikkal and Jaiswal, Samson 3, Buttler 4, then Hetmyer and Neesh

I still can't figure out who'll be the no.4.

Rohit
Ishan
Surya
?? (Anmolpreet maybe)
Pollard
David/Brewis
Sams/Allen
Archer/Mills/Meredith
Unadkat/Thampi
Markande/Ashwin
Bumrah

Kishan to smash it, Rohit and Surya to bat for 15 overs and hope David and Pollard can hit 100 off the last five.

Having both Jaiswal and Padikkal in the starting XI is quite counter-productive though. A strong and sensible leader would just tell the management that they goofed up with the Padikkal bid and play either one of them and ask for the other to be released or traded at the end of the season.

Tilak Varma is your man.

They are both young with good leadership they should be able to mold them into the cogs they need together.

It does depend on what the RR think tank sees. Do they view these two as their next Indian core alongside Sanju? Buttler wouldn't mind batting at four I suppose given his comments previously. Under normal circumstances I would call that a killer opening duo but given the wealth of riches at the Royals disposal one has to wonder if the two in the same XI is best for the current season?

I remember Jaiswal batting at three this season for Mumbai though. Perhaps they could play Buttler up top with Padikkal for the left-right combination with Jaiswal at three and Sanju at four? Could potentially work well.

Zak on cricbuzz live praised him a lot so maybe yeah he's the no. 4 we're looking for.

He's absolute box office material. Quite scary to imagine how good he could become under MI's guidance.

On an interesting note, this year SMAT's leading run-scorer in Tanmay Agarwal did not receive a single bid. The man is a Hyderabadi to boot. Surely worth a token bid at least from SRH?

It is interesting how Tanmay Agarwal keeps getting ignored by the franchises. It's been quite a while since I am hearing about him every now & then. I think he also played in the 2014 U19 WC?
