Just realised that Dan Weston of Birmingham fame is in the Punjab setup. No wonder Punjab are playing such aggressive cricket although I do feel like they’ve got plenty more to do in terms of refining this approach of theirs.

That was a terrible shot from Jitesh Sharma. It looked like the first time he ever tried playing it.

Could see the idea behind it but that was just awful execution.

Looks like a very handy player though if he can work on his strike-rotation.

That's what interested me about their auction strategy. When you know who is identifying the players, at least seeing how teams that he has worked for have played, you understand what the method is. Going with only seven overseas players and the seventh being Benny Howell would suggest they have a clear plan in mind.

Hopefully they don't bottle it if doesn't go their way every now and then.

YES! This is probably the first time I have been excited to watch Kings 11 matches in IPL. I hope they stick with the strategy.

Even though it feels weird seeing them go with a strategy like this when Kumble is their head coach.

Shahrukh Khan has completely sucked the life out of this inning. Odean is the only saviour here.

People need to be patient with Odean. He's very inexperienced for an overseas player coming into the IPL and he's the type of player who will might fail more than he succeeds. He could be the next Dre Russ or the next Kevon Cooper.

Agreed! Even though it can be rather frustrating sometimes, it's always fun watching him play.

I feel like the main issue with every team trying to copy this hyper-aggressive style of cricket is that they lack batting depth. Rabada at eight is decent but not ideal when you've got such hitters paired with an aggressive strategy. I also feel like they're going a bit too overboard with looking for boundaries in every other odd ball when they could be better off trying to aim for a boundary per over/two with a minimum of 10 runs per over. It feels far more achievable than chasing those miracle overs like Livingstone seemed to be doing today. If I had to pick a side that they should model themselves after I'd suggest Islamabad United in the latest PSL season as they tried to strike at 10 RPO in almost every game. In addition they also had batting depth with Maqsood being probably their only true bunny.

To sort out their batting depth issue I'd probably try this lineup...

Mayank
Gabbar
YJB
Livingstone
Jitesh/Mankad
SRK/Chatterjee
Odean/Rishi Dhawan
Bawa/Howell
Chahar
Rabada
Arshdeep

I'd also axe Arshdeep if they're going all in with their aggressive strategy in favour of Brar or Bawa who can bat better. I felt like there was a lull when Jitesh and SRK came to the crease as they were unsure if they should have anchored and consolidated a bit or tried to continue Livingstone's approach in light of their lack of batting depth. With more batting to follow we could have easily seen a 200+ today from Punjab.

EDIT: Quite funnily I can see CSK being the dream side for the modern analyst to play with. They've got insane batting depth, a variety of bowlers in their armoury and all of their batsmen/hitters have certain match-ups where they're very destructive. If only our management unleashed it all instead of sticking with the old conservative strategy of ours...

Odean's lack of experience also stems from West Indies basically having no actual domestic T20 tournament akin to the SMAT here or the T20 Blast. He was also hampered by the CPL's bizarre rule regarding rookies.

3 specialist death bowlers for CSK doing a chokehold job there! Had Milne been available, only 2 out of Bravo/Jordan/Pretorius would have played. But with all 3 playing today, it was all down to Jadeja making better captaincy decisions to ensure that these 3 bowlers handle the last 6-7 overs of the innings. And Jadeja did that well today, ensuring that he bowled out Mukesh before the 15th and gave CJ/DJ/DP the final 6 overs. And all 3 did an excellent job

I dont see much of dew today and so this total could be challenging.. But CSK will love a chase after being forced to set targets and defend it in soapy conditions, and also their batting fired collectively last game with all the big guns in flow. So I'd give CSK a 65-35 chance here (fingers crossed).
