What will the result of the Test series be?

India will get mauled in the first test, South Africa in the second. Last test South Africa will win fairly comfortably but India will have an outside chance in it. 2-1 to South Africa with South Africa winning the first and the third. Same as sohum.

How are the rains in South Africa ? We do not want yet another series ruined by the rains now.

I'm confident that our pace unit can perform if given a conducive wicket. In fact, I think we will really need a conducive wicket to have a chance in the games because I don't see us taking 20 wickets otherwise. Durban is hence the best shot for a victory since our pace bowlers will actually not appear toothless.

Cape Town has very little to no rain this time of year. Centurion has some thunder storms but they genereally only occur late afternoon/early evening and the ground drains very fast. Durban is a tropical climate so anything can happen there.

Judging from today's mtn pro 40 final I expect the first test pitch to have good pace and bounce.

I disagree. Our best chance to win is at Centurion. Our bowlers have rarely performed on bouncy pitches. Sreesanth rarely bowls bouncers and when he does, they're harmless. Zak also is not that very good at bowling bouncers. But seeing recent Ishant's performance, I'm hopeful.

Centurion - Difference will be ZAK vs Steyn

Durban - Difference will be Ishant vs Morkel

Cape town - Difference will be the batting

P.S. The major difference will be the third seamer for SAF. By the way, seeing as how Harbhajan "likes" to bowl on pitches with a little bounce, I can't wait to see how he bowls.

Seriously though, I expect India to win this series 2-1 or 2-0

Most of the discussions here have been Morkel, Steyn-centric. i.e focus has been on the South African bowling. I feel that we are missing out on their batting prowess here.
A person who I feel will definitely stand up int his series is Hashim Amla. A technically sound batsman who has weathered attacks in various conditions. He could be the thorn in India's way.

The SA batting lineup is a match for any. 4 of the top 6 averages over 40 in SA, kallis 57. Only AB has a sub par record averaging 37( a lot to do with his time as an opener) and alviro hasn't played test cricket in SA.

Compared to the india top 6 were not even the great sachin averages 40 in SA, gambhir and raina haven't played test cricket here.

Seems its going to be a bouncy track. On the weather latest says 60% chance of showers on thursday and saturday( they said the same today but there isn't a cloud in the sky so far) with the other days being overcast with no rain.

Centurion pitch will have a 'bit of bounce'

The Centurion pitch for the first Test between South Africa and India starting on December 16 will not be a trampoline, subject to the weather, the groundsman at Supersport Park, Hilbert Smith, has said. "It will have just a bit of bounce," Smith told ESPNcricinfo.

"But everything depends on the weather. If it stays hot, somewhere in the region of 34 degrees Celsius and the pitch dries out, then it will flatten out totally and then we will have a problem because we need some moisture to get bounce," Smith said.

South Africa have instructed Smith to prepare a track that will favour their pace attack. "I've been told to leave some grass on it, so there will be bounce. I've rolled some grass into the base for that," Smith said. He has to ensure a delicate balance between producing a pitch that will generate bounce and one that doesn't offer too much movement and the possibility of the match ending prematurely. "If I leave too much grass on the pitch, there will be too much movement and then the match could be over in three days and we don't want that. If it ends in four days, that will be fine, but ideally, I would like it to go the full five days."

Smith has also been told to leave no room for turn, all but negating the role of the spinner, who will, particularly in the case of someone like Paul Harris, be used to contain. However, bounce alone may be enough to excite the slow bowlers, particularly tall ones like Harris and Harbhajan Singh, according to former South African spinner Paul Adams. "Spinners just need the bounce to be able to deceive the batsmen," he said.

Smith said he has "done most of the Test pitch already" and, on Friday during the MTN40 final, it had quite a fair amount of grass on it, but he has had an interruption in his preparation. The domestic limited-overs final was played six days before the Test. It meant that Smith could not work on the Test pitch for two days, Thursday and Friday.

The Test pitch, number five on the square, is sandwiched between the MTN40 final pitch, number six, and the pitch used for the other MTN40 games, number four. "There will be a little bit of wear and tear on the Test pitch and the grass may come out a bit because of its position," Smith said. It's the first time Smith has had a domestic game played so soon before an international, and therefore he said he doesn't know what the effect will be on the Test pitch.

Luckily, the weather is expected to work to Smith's advantage. Although the mercury has topped 30 degrees Celsius for the past few days, it has rained on three of them. Rain is forecast all day for Sunday and Monday while clearing on Tuesday and returning on Wednesday night. Thursday, the first day of the Test, is also expected to be overcast and wet.

Any chances of Davey Jacobs-the man who lit up the CLT20, featuring in the T20s or the ODIs ?

No, I don't think so the guy is too cocky for his own good TBH. He will probably be an outcast to the non-warriors players. It will be like having 2 captains on the pitch and I don't think Smith will like that so he won't play in all likelyhood

SA will either whitewash India or win 2-0 IMO.

India won't get whitewashed, I can assure that. We have a very strong batting lineup followed by a decent set of pacers and have a better set of spinners. You never know what's gonna happen.

No chance. For batsman he is well behind the likes of rudolph, rossouw, elgar,du plessis, vandiar, van zyl, ect. For keeping all of morne van wyk, heino kuhn and tsolekile are ahead of him.

Concerning the weather, it seems to have turned to bad. Started raining yesterday at 16:00 and hasn't really stopped, hopefully it clears by thursday.

I am really excited for this series. 3 Test is a perfect series.

A tough one for India but Gary has let each Indian batsman play around 3000 net deliveries although its not like facing same bowlers kinda threat but you never know.
