Great update Suren, enjoyable and easy to read that was. LOL at Mark Nicholas, looks like an idiot :p I'm not surprised Read got man of the match, he batted exceptionally well.

Awesome work Suren, kiu! :)

Does Mark Nicolas like that pose? :p

Great update, with both captains speaking the truth. Flintoff was quite confident whilst Dhoni obviously thought they could of done better and take lessons out of the match.

Easy read, Suren. Keep it up.

What was Mark trying to look at??:p

Great update and I knew Read would get it:cool:

It looks like Mark Nicholas is looking up the players nose's :D

A controversial way to end the game. Sometimes the best games are the low-scoring ones.

England Vs Australia - First Innings

bannertitleey7.jpg

After an exciting first match between India and England where English team won the last wicket thriller, the England team arrived at Melbourne stadium to face the mighty hosts. The practice taken by both the teams were incredible. They were working very hard in the nets. Well as far as the weather and pitch is concerned, the conditions looked perfect for playing cricket. The weather was clear and the full day's play seems to be in bag without any doubts. Also, the pitch was a typical Melbourne wicket. The bounce should be great enough for the bowlers and there is something here where the batsmen should be cautious enough.

Australia won the toss and chose to bat first.
Teams

ausinnings7.jpg

Both the teams looked promising. In particular, the English team seemed to have reshaped themselves. Joyce, Bopara, Sidebottom and Batty made their way into the team XI along with the aged R.Johnson! It was a surprise pick for Johnson over Hoggard. It is to be noted that Hoggard was the joint hero with Read in the first match. Thus the English team completely looks fresh and new to face the mighty hosts.

However, we are yet to see the Aussies in CB series. So, nothing much can be estimated from their squad except for the fact that they always look mighty to the opponents. Marsh, North, McDonald and Tait should be interesting to watch. Everyone expected that Mitchell would make into the team XI but none have understood why he hasn't been there in the team XI. Still, the Aussie squad looks dangerous and strong. :p

Old Classic Rivalry Starts Again!

ausinnings1.jpg

As always, it is classic to watch England & Aussies
to battle against each other for their pride!

The players came to the field in front of the huge crowd. The audience support looked outstanding. There was plenty of support for both the sides. And bowlers got ready and Flintoff was busy in setting the field for Aussie openers - Marsh and Haddin. Marsh, who has been outstanding in T20 games have finally made his way into the team XI.

After Hayden/Gilchrist, there was never a stable opening stand in Aussie side. Haddin and Marsh is yet another experiment for them. For English side, the hero of the first match - Hoggard had to miss this game due to some unknown injury! :spy However, Sidebottom shared the new ball with Broad. Both were one of those upcoming bowlers in current cricket and the field set for them was bit attacking.

Stable Opening Partnership

ausinnings2.jpg

Marsh and Haddin gave a solid start to Aussies. They kept their patience level and without taking much risks, they rotated the strikes well with regular boundaries. The run rate never seem to creep up too much but the runs were coming without any brakes too. Nevertheless, the spectators were cheering for each and every ball bowled.

Flintoff tried the option of Johnson too but, nothing seem to break the stable opening stand. The opening stand went past 50 runs and the English side looked quite frustrated. The captain was waiting for the opportunity for the batsmen to make some mistakes but both the openers were cautious enough to deny the English side any wickets!

Sooner, Flintoff gave up his hopes on the fast bowlers. He would have definitely cursed himself in not having Hoggard in his side. He switched to spin and introduced Batty into the bowling.

Batty was the Man Which England was looking for!

ausinnings3t.jpg

Aussies struggle against the spinners continues...

Batty was brought into the attack and the expectations on this spinner was too low. With promising spinners like Swann, Monty and Rashid still waiting to get into the side, Batty seemed to be very much under-rated. However, Flintoff had a good chat with his spinner and set the field appropriately.

Batty and Johnson were effective in applying the brakes to scoring of runs. And it was Batty who got the needed wickets for England. With an amazing arm delivery, he got rid of Marsh and with the normal off-break, he got rid of Haddin too. Both the openers looked solid but was sent back to the pavilion at the right time.
England Never lost the Control in the Game!

ausinnings4.jpg

Target 258 for England side.

Johnson, Flintoff, Colly were the other bowling options tried. Batty and Colly were very much effective while Johnson was effective in only containing the runs. Ponting and Clarke seemed to settle down and they went over wildly against Flintoff.

However, Flintoff got his revenge back by sending the Australian skipper to pavilion. And also, Colly was successful in getting rid of Clarke. The score was looking average and Colly further hurted Aussies. David Hussey became the victim of Colly and thus taking 2 valuable wickets for English side. The wickets went in regular intervals and it was M.Hussey who played a crucial knock in the end overs.

Mike Hussey remained unbeaten on quick 26 runs and he helped the Aussie side to go past 250 run mark. McDonald also had some lucky boundaries but overall, English side did well to contain Aussies to 257 runs.

Australia Batting Scorecard!

ausinnings5.jpg

England Bowling Card

ausinnings6.jpg

Well with the score being around 260, it is never going to be easy. On the other day we saw how English side struggled to get that below 200 target and with the quality bowling opponent now, someone from English side had to score big to make it their day! Lets wait and see what happens to England during their chase of 258 runs against the quality opponents, Australia. Stay Tuned. :)

Aus : 257//7( 50 Overs )
M.Hussey : 26*
A. McDonald : 12*

Batty : 2/38(10)
Colly : 2/38(7)

England needs 258 to win from 50 overs

I doubt 257 will be enough, I hope the Aussies will lose and the Lions will chase the score. For the Aussies no one really played an outstanding innings with the bat all chipped in while for the Lions Colly and Batty were good. Would be an exciting 2nd innings.

Nice to see you doing you both stories and if this continues then all PC members are for a treat. Brilliant presentation as usual Suren bhai:hpraise Just can you tell me the font you used in the screenies.

No Australian batsmen made more than 50, yet they still made a defendable score.

That score might not be enough for the Aussies, but it's on the way. It's a defendable score, and it is nice to see you continue both your stories mate. Looking forward to the next update.

Once again, your presentation is superb, keep up the good work.

:banana2 Thank you for the wonderful comments and views, guys :banana2
Let me see when I can bring an another update to this story. Since I am working on the update for my career story, I will see if I can do both at the same time. :)

Just can you tell me the font you used in the screenies.

It is Corleone family of fonts, Shantanu. :)

Woahhhh! What has happened to that England team :o.. Damnnn thats retro :p ... Top update Suren with the aussies only making an acceptable score but you never know is how many untill the end of the game!

England Vs Australia - Second Innings

bannertitleey7.jpg

Well, with England having 258 runs to chase in 50 overs, their batsmen came to the crease with determined spirit. Crowd support to both the teams were fantastic & Ponting looked bit worried as he had got only around 250 to defend. Joyce and Strauss faced the new ball bowlers, Lee and Bracken.

Lee's Scary Bouncer did the Trick!

firstwicket.jpg

Aussie bowlers started off well with their accurate line and length, making the batsmen to struggle for runs. Strauss looked too much defensive. It was Joyce who looked to attack the bowlers but none of his shots connected properly. In one of the attempts to put away Lee, he fell in Aussies trap.

Joyce tried to pull one of the short pitched deliveries and it got a good top edge. The ball went high in the air & North made no mistake in taking the simple catch. Aussie players started to celebrate this initial breakthrough. It was yet another opening pair failure for England in this CB series.

Solid 2nd Wicket partnership

kpstrauss.jpg

There was a huge roar when KP walked to the crease. It was like, the whole crowd was cheering for the England team. :p Lee & Bracken continued their cunning tactics of keeping the line tight. It was Pietersen who broke the shackles by his boundaries. He struck some magnificent boundaries which made Ponting to remove his cap & keep his hands there worrying. ;) Everyone must have known the Ashes 2005. Yes, it was same Pietersen taking the game away again from Aussies. :p

In the other end, Strauss seemed to be comfortable in defensive mode. The partnership continued to frustrate Aussie bowlers and fielders. Ponting brought Tait and McDonald also, but the partnership looked solid.

However, due to a small confusion during the running between wickets, England lost its second wicket when the score was around 87. Strauss became the victim & it finally gave a huge relief to Ponting & his men.

End of Kp's Dominating Fifty!

gameinbalance.jpg

Bopara joined strong going KP at the crease. Pietersen rushed to his half century and he received standing applause from everyone in the spectator stand. He attacked the spinners - North and Hussey in an aggressive manner. It was when he reached 69, McDonald got KP.

It was a swinging in delivery to KP and he was decieved completely. The ball struck the stumps & KP had to depart. England fans went in silence. Ponting and his men continued to celebrate this important/vital breakthrough.

England Collapsed after KP!

runs.jpg

After KP, none of the batsmen bothered to spend more time at the crease. Bopara became the victim of Bracken's slow off-cut delivery. He tried to play a simple stroke & got himself out. Flintoff and Colly gave a good start, but it was when they looked promising, they fell in the Aussies trap.

Flintoff was bowled by Tait's magnificent yorker while Colly sacrificed his wicket to a part timer, David Hussey. Colly's wicket brought many people to curse him. He came down the track & tried to clear the ropes but Tait made no mistake in taking a simple catch.

It was first CB match's hero, Read again at the crease. The score was 191 for the loss of 6 wickets. :facepalm

Can Read's heroics save England?

read46.jpg

Most of the English fans lost their hopes in England side to win this one. But it was Read who made the difference. He motivated his Broad too. Broad gave the strike as much as he could, to Read. And Read attacked the bowlers in style.

Fortunately for England, Lee finished his 10 overs spell. Everyone cursed Ponting for that too since Lee was the strike bowler. Read did not find any difficulties to put away Tait's faster deliveries & Bracken's slower deliveries. He provided a great entertainment and took England close to the target.

England entered the final overs with 248 on the board, & Read on strike with 46 runs. 10 runs from the last overs isn't difficult, especially with magnificent inform Read on the song.

Ponting was tensed up further... :spy

Luck in Favor of Aussies!

gameoverl.jpg

Believe it or not, it was North whom Ponting trusted for the last over. Everyone got shocked by this gamble & they were almost confirmed of Aussies loss. But this gamble turned out in other way.

North bowled one straight quick delivery which went straight to keeper & increased the pressure on Read further. In the very next ball, Read tried to sweep North and did not manage to clear the boundary ropes. The ball went very high in the air & landed straight into McDonald's hands.

This was what Aussie bowlers were looking for. Read's departure brought down the exciting momentum among English fans. Then, Broad and Sidebottom indeed manage to bring some cheeky runs, but England felt short of just 3 runs to tie the game.

Hence, Aussies won the match by 3 runs!

England Scorecard

scorecard.jpg

Like the scorecard suggests, except KP, there was none to carry on the momentum for England. Batsmen gave some good starts but failed to convert those to a big one. Thanks to Read for making the game close in the end, without which England would have suffered a loss by big margin. However, it was Ponting's great captaincy which brought back Aussies on the track whenever it went other way. Hence rightly, Ponting got MOTM for his brilliant captaincy.

Right, with another thriller in CB series, India would be facing Australia in the next game. With England and Aussie up the table, the next game should be a tough challenge for Indian side to face the mighty Aussies. Stay Tuned to know more. :)

Eng : 254/7( 50 Overs, Aus : 257/7 )
K Pietersen : 69
CMW Read : 46

Australia won by 3 Runs
MOTM : R. Ponting
