Hello and welcome to Star Cricket for the first match of Natwest Series 2010. This will be a very important series for both the teams. It will be important series for India because they are the no.1 test side in the world and would not want to loose their no.1 position. On other hand English side has been seeing good and bad times from last 2 years. Last time India came to England they won the test series but were not able to win the odi series. Weather Report.
Well,The over head conditions would be good throughout the 4 days the reason i am saying good not excellent because because we can expect 2/3 hours of rain everyday. Although i feel 2/3 hours of rain would not make any difference to game. Thing that worry me the most is weather from last few weeks is very cool and playing in this situation will be hard for Indian team. Lets see what they will manage to do in this first practice match. Lets now head away to pitch report.
Pitch Report.
Well,This pitch is bowling friendly. I have to say after a long time i am seeing a pitch which is bowler friendly. I would not say that batsmens wont have their day specially when we talk about Indian batsmens we need to have it in mind that they are no.1 test team of the world.
Now lets talk about over head conditions as mentioned earlier that it is really cold these days so that will obviously help bowlers. I was watching news yesterday and came to know that Steven Harmison and Graham Onions will be playing in todays match. So it wont be easy for Indian batsmens to get away from these two bowlers. Specially Harmison pace and Onions swing will really frustrate Indian batsmens.
What i would suggest to captains is win the toss and choose to bowl and take advantage of over head conditions. Maybe batsmens will make some runs but if bowlers bowl some good spells they would surely get something from this pitch. Thats the news from the pitch now lets head away to toss and see which captain wins and elects to do what.

Welcome to start cricket for the first practice match between India and Durham. As we know that Durham won the toss and put India into bat. Indian opening batsmens Gautam and Virender came to field with Durham fielders and umpires. Gautam Gambhir marked his guard and got ready to play the first ball. Durham captain,Will Smith kept an defensive field and gave first over to Steven Harmison......

Crowd which were present to see the match shouted loudly for their domestic team,Durham.
Very first ball of the match was a dangerous bouncer getting pass the keeper and resulting in 5 runs. All thought that Harmison is not at all in a good form mean bowling the very first ball of the match as a bouncer is non sense. But no one knew that it was a tactic of Durham to frustrate Gambhir and get rid of him. Then Harmison again keeping a plan in mind bowled two full length deliveries on off stump and one good length deliveries on his legs. 5th ball which he bowled to Gambhir did the trick. Harmison came running very fast he was looking aggressive he bowled a short pitch delivery quite similar to ball one on off side Gambhir though to smash it on off side but it resulted him to loose his wicket. Ball went straight to slip and the fielder which was on slip, Ian Blackwell took a stunning catch. Ball speed was very fast and it was not easy to take that catch but luckily for Durham they got their first wicket on 5.
Dravid departed for a small score!
After Dravid dismissal Durham crowd were way to over excited.
After Gambhir dismissal all expected Sehwag to play slowly and build a good partnership with Dravid. But he had some other strategies in mind. He played even more faster then the other days from the ball one he was easily finding gaps on the off side and was ready to play big innings. Although from overs 5 to 13 Rahul and Sehwag both started playing bit slowly. Although just when Sehwag was feeling that pressure is building he smashed 1,2 boundaries. 13th over managed to build pressure on Dravid. Dravid tried to play a leg side pull and that resulted him to loose his wicket. There was no need to play that shot and we don't even expect such kind of strokes from a batsmen like Dravid. Dravid departed on 18 and again the breakthrough was done by Steve Harmison.....

After Dravid dismissal none other than Sachin Tendulkar came to bat. He started off pretty well but defensively. On other hand Sehwag was playing a good innings. He was having no doubts to put bad ball away. He played some uppish strokes and so he should be because at the end he is Sehwag. Sehwag soon reached his fifty of 42 balls. This indeed one of his finest innings. So a good start for the series for Sehwag.... All the fielders,Bowlers went clueless even the captain,Well Smith didn't had any clue what so ever. He didn't knew how to get rid of Sehwag and in this innings we saw a changes Sehwag he started his innings normally although he slowed his innings bit in the early twenties and thirties. Nonetheless good fifty for Sehwag...

Sachin started of his innings very slowly but when he saw Virender playing such a delightful strokes he smashed two classic strokes on off and one on leg. Then after that Sehwag played 3 delightful strokes. Sehwag is well and truly playing one of his finest innings. After Sachin smashed 2 fours he was seeing the ball quite well and was continuing playing cracking strokes. After India lost Dravid and Gambhir Sachin and Sehwag managed to build a solid partnership. So after hitting some delightful strokes,Sachin and Sehwag. It was time for umpire to say 'Common guys lets have lunch!' So it was end of first session.

So,Finally Indian batsmen Sachin and Sehwag came to field with umpires and Durham team. Many people thought that now Sehwag will change his batting and will try to take singles rather than trying to hit big strokes. Although Sehwag had some different plans. He said 'look guys i am not at all changing my batting if you think you can get me out you are most welcome'. Very first over after lunch was smashed for 2 fours by Sehwag. Even Sachin who was at non strikers end laughed and exchanged some words with Sehwag. But Sehwag continued his attacking batting and soon reached his fantastic hundred. :happy So it was indeed a great start for him in the series.

So after Sehwag reaching his century he smashed few more boundaries and then Sachin gone to say some words to Sehwag. Maybe Sachin said 'see sehwag i know this is a practice match but try to play as big innings as you can'. But Sehwag didn't bother to listen anything. Then he tried to hook a ball from Mark Davies but he was trapped. Ball went straight to Graham Onions and unfortunately he was out for 114. Sehwag well and truly played a very good innings but he could have even gone for a very big score. Nonetheless he was out and the next batsmen was V.V.S. Laxman....

After Sehwag dismissal Sachin changed his batting speed and started playing very attacking cricket. He targeted off side rather than leg side because there was no fielder at the boundary on the off side. But the best thing he did was playing grounded stroke rather than going for uppish drives. On the other hand i guess Laxman got a message from Indian captain to play fast and make some quick runs and thats what he did. Laxman completely changes his batting and started playing big strokes and that eased pressure from Sachin head. Now Sachin was playing freely he was putting bad balls away and defended good balls. In one if the overs Laxman smashed 2 fours and 1 six and all thought that India are in hurry to make a big score.

Kohli Laxman out but new man Dhoni playing delightful strokes
As we know Laxman was playing attacking cricket and crowd was shocked to see him playing so attacking cricket. As we know that Laxman played domestic cricket in England. So he knows condition pretty well and we cant forget that he is a classic player. So after Laxman played few more attacking strokes he raised his bat after reaching his fifity only in 31 balls. So that means he made his fifty much more quickly then Sehwag. But we have to agree that now India are all set to aim for a big score. But after playing so attacking cricket Laxman gave away his wicket. No one knew what sort of shot he was trying to play. Either he was trying to place ball in between slip and keeper or trying to smash it on off side whatever he was doing didn't work and he was bowled. Next batsmen was Kohli and even he smashed a six over the long off but then he tried to leave a ball and was bowled. But than came the Indian captain Mr.Cool straight away coming into the field he had a chat with Sachin and than marked his guard and was ready to play. As we saw from previous two batsmens that they were playing attacking cricket even Dhoni started hitting for fours but as we know Dhoni plays grounded strokes so there were no risks for Dhoni.

Sachin disappointingly raising his bat to audience after been dismissed for 86.
Dhoni continued hitting big strokes and than gone to Sachin and said few words. I guess he said "See we need to declare now because we have finally reached a big score". So whenever Dhoni was thinking that he cant go for big strokes he took some quick runs and was adding runs to scoreboard. On other hand when Sachin got strike even he played some fantastic strokes and was inching closer and closer to his century. Past few wickets of India were taken from Paul Collingwood. Again he was bought into the attack and he bowled his first delivery of the over the ball kept low and Dhoni didn't thought that ball will keep low and it straight went to Dhoni legs and umpire easily gave it out. So Dhoni departed on 44 of just 25 balls. Next batsmen was Harbhajan as we know he liked playing big strokes and thats what he did first 3 balls he faces were gone for four and then he defended few balls. On other hand crowd was waiting for Sachin's century. Collingwood again now bowled a ball on off side full length delivery and Sachin went for the ball to smash it Sachin though that ball will pass the fielder but i didn't David Warner was the fielder and he took a good high catch. All were disappointed even Sachin too. Sachin head was down while going to pavilion but he raised his bat and went to pavilion after that Indian captain decided to declare the innings.....

Gambhir got on duck and Sehwag scored a century, but the scorecard shows Gambhir scoring a century and Sehwag getting out on a duck.
