FYI, i have read that already! I don't feel Uthappa is good option. Let him concentrate on his batting first and then come to playing XI. Then we will see.. Thats why I told, " Dravid'ian " word because Dravid is not a regular keeper. Secondary option.

Even if we go by your point,

  • If Dhoni is injured in half way of the match i.e in middle, we can may be ask Uthappa to keep(if he is in playing XI) because in that situation we can't help.
  • But if you speak about a full match or series, sorry we can go for specialist keepers rather.

If i have not misunderstood this thread, it's for thinking about of next keeper we have in our store. Not for part time keepers.

India already have weak point in having a good all-rounder and good keeper batsman where the latter seem to be resolved now because of Dhoni!
Every team is looking for a batsman who can keep these days and not a keeper who cant bat. The England side for example. If a player can bat like Dravid and is a mediocre keeper, he will be selected without a second thought. This is reality.

Thats why England team is still not contented with the keeper department & there is no consistent keeper as well. They are not able to find someone like Stewart.

Aus - Gilchrist
SA - Boucher
SL - Sanga
Zim - Flower
NZ - McCullum
Eng - Stewart

are some of the examples where keeper specialist batsmen have had a long run and good success in the game. Dhoni also will come under that category. Since we aim for number 1 spot, we should go with the best combinations in batting/bowling/keeping/AR and not with mediocre skills :)

Otherwise, we would have been contented with Dravid being a keeper. Dhoni would not even come if that was the case and we would have further struggled.

Andy Flower was a great test batsman but an awful wicket-keeper. He was a part-time keeper who was in the side mainly because of his batting.

Why isn't Uday Kaul in the list? He should quite obviously be ahead of Takawale.

I think kiran more.

Parthiv has improved his batting and wicket keeping by seeing his records in domestic cricket. So he can be better choice but Dravid can be used as he is expirenced and good wicket keeper

I dislike both Karthik and Parthiv. Both according to me are useless. I think we should give a chance to Wriddhiman Saha. I have heard about him and he sounds promising. We need a backup option when Dhoni is injured. Uthappa in tests? First let him cement his place in the T20 team (he will come back for the WC this year, though).

Right now, Dhoni is India's best keeper batsman (even on form). Others have to catch up.

1. Dinesh Karthik- Absolutely horrible. Can't keep properly and dosen't know how to bat. Showed his "talents" in Sri Lanka. I don't know why the selectors keep picking this guy. His Test average is more than terrible, so is his ODI average. Picking him means loads (at least ten) of dropped catches and wastage of a valuable no 7 batting spot.

Are you kidding? He's a better keeper then Dhoni and an extremely talented batsman. Check out his domestic records for the last Ranji season, he was a monster with the bat. His keeping is good, very good in fact, but the pressure does get to him. Ten dropped catches, are you mad?

Did you even SEE him in England?!

I agree that Karthik is the 2nd best Keeper in India, but I'm not so sure about him being better than Dhoni. He's probably more agile and flexible but I've see him him drop a lot of catches of late. He's also got the tendancy to drop sitters and take blinders. Dhoni rarely misses chances. Karthik's also one of them people can't really hack it at International Level like Rohit Sharma.

Dhoni > Karthik.
