India's tour of Australia - December/January 2015

Siddle apparently said that Kohli is more accustomed to batting on lower and flatter wickets and he said that Kohli struggled at the Gabba where there was pace and bounce. Well, I think Siddle should shut up cause he's not even in the current playing XI, and I think he is just making up excuses because India has actually competed and given great fight to Australia in this series especially Kohli. Also, Kohli is a world class player, and was that Johannesburg track on the 1st day of the test flat??? He should great judgment and character to get a 100 on the 1st day, the ball was moving and it had good pace. He also played well in New Zealand where the ball was also moving. Yeah we understand that he struggled in England, but I don't think he would struggle again in England if we toured again soon. Also, if the tracks are flat how has there been results in Adelaide and Brisbane so far? So Siddle should just shut it and actually go practice his bowling and nets and work on coming back into the playing XI.

A little surprised to read this to be honest.

It wasn't long when I think I had hrd Lehmann say that Aussies had not even started working on Kohli yet, or something to that effect implying that the sledging was only going to get worse.

It's just mind games, the truth is that they really don't know how to bowl to him and get him out. Then they get frustrated and start sledging him like they did in the 2nd innings at the MCG, which just plays into Kohli's hands. The only potential weakness for Kohli would be the same for another batsman: try to get him poking outside off stump when he comes out to bat. A good first 10-20 balls in that corridor could draw an edge, and every batsman is vulnerable in the start of an innings outside the off stump. Other than that there is really no weakness for Kohli.

True that. Also Siddle must be foolish if he thinks there are still wickets being prepared around the world which are conducive to pace/bounce. Most wickets around the world these days are prepared for batting. Australia which once used to be such a tough place for overseas batsmen, is now getting really placid. Same with England, South Africa, etc.

He pointed out a valid point though, Kohli is more accustomed to batting on flatter wickets, just like Australians are more accustomed to batting on more bouncy wickets. It's not like he said he can't bat on the more bowler friendly wickets, he even stated that he was clearly in great nick.

The point though is, we had results in almost all the games - Heck Australia were 200ish for 5-6 wickets in half the innings. So it wasn't a flat wicket that was being used in any of the tests. People as usual get carried away with these things - if the ball is not moving around like a yo-yo, then its a flat wicket.

this is actually pathetic..whenever indians bat well the wickets have to be flat nonsense..give credit were due...if he had said MCG was timid in comparison to adelaide i would have understood but to call adelaide a flat pitch was nonsense.

to all the drop in pitch nonsense debate, this has been happening over the past 2 decades...why proclaim that now...as if the only reason runs are scored.

I will just say this if the wicket was as flat as they described nohit and dhawan would have flayed
them back and forth to shreds.

ashwin
akshar/yadav [depending on wicket mostly scg is bound to favor spin but on rare occasions does give greener wickets]
bhuvi[fitness]/shami

im really eager to see a pujara vijay opening it will literally blunt the new ball effectively in atleast 70% of the matches which will greatly aid our middle order coming in. also dhawan i think will be more than handy in middle order.

Vijay
Dhawan
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Raine
Rahul (Hrd he can keep Wickets)/Ojha (If Rahul's keeping is not upto Int'l standards)
Bhuvi (Hrd he is fit)/Shami

I dont see the point at all. When you have picked two specialist openers for the tour and both of them are fit and are available to play, I wouldn't want to waste them by having a non-specialist batsman open the innings. One or two innings, it might work, but its not the long term plan at all. And we are not so desperate for a band aid fix right now.

Pujara either plays No.3 or No.5.

Vijay
Dhawan/Rahul
Rahane
Kohli
Pujara
Saha
Karn
Ashwin
Shami/Bhuvi (if fit)
Yadav
Ishant

I dont see the reason why we need to play Akshar Patel when we have Karn in the team. Ashwin can hold a good bat and Karn is also capable of a few blows. Also with our top order (e.g. Vijay, Kohli, Rahane; occasionally Pujara and Dhawan) firing in this series, we might take the luxury of an extra bowler. And if Bhuvi is fit and plays at Sydney, you get an extra useful batsman. Though, I don't want them to rush him back. The WC has always been more important than this series and more so now with the series gone.

its not at all band aid fix....pujara's best have come as an opener... dhawan is dodgy as an opener in long term i dont think he is going to give consistent openings against new ball when it does a bit..in long term i feel he will be good when the ball gets older, rahul is a bundle of nerves of now putting him as opener wont help. Its worth a shot as i feel a pujara vijay combo if it gets going can spell doom for new ball bowlers, not just that but reduce our new ball collapse by a good deal.

So far the series has been decided by tail end batng and gutso thats the prime difference between the two team from what i have seen little akshar is much better batsman than karn, i wouldnt mind our tail batting as deep as possible a im sure our effectiveness with ball wont improve drastically.

Now let's see that will India able to manage to win the last match or Australia will lead the series by 3-0
