India's tour of Australia - December/January 2015

Why is Pujara in a list among Rohit and Ishant lol...
Probably because of his recent failures. I think England tour has affected his confidence a lot. Kohli was able to overcome due to his incredible self confidence but player like Pujara may not be able to do that so easily. Moreover, these failures have affected his technique slightly which Gavaskar was pointing out when Pujara was batting. Earlier, his bat used to come down dead straight but now his backlift starts somewhere around gully and comes down in a arc. Hence the large number of inside edge while batting. Someone need to have a chat with him and point this out. I wish we hire Dravid or Sachin as permanent batting consultants for the team.

So it's all about what have you done for me lately, Pujara's just had a bad 2014 on the back of a great 2013, the dude will work on his game and comeback in 4 years time to the very places he's failed (South Africa not 1 of them) a better player, his record is still better than Kohli's and let's not forget the tough start Kohli had to his Test career when he was being "groomed", stick with your talent.

I think Pujara has to his credit 3 double tons. Probably the any by an Indian at this age. I don't think its wise to put Pujara in the category of Rohit, Ishant and Dhawan. Plus, Pujara got a few wrong uns from the umpires. I dont think this factor has been taken into consideration here.

Changes I would like to see for Sydney;

1.) Dhoni out, Saha in. There's really nothing to separate between Saha and Naman, Saha played at Adelaide and has been Dhoni's #2 forever, so deserves a chance to stake a claim as permanent #1.
2.) Dhawan out, Raina or Akshar in. Considering how quick we discarded Rohit, it's only fair Dhawan gets the same treatment, Rahul to open, if the pitch is spinner friendly we have an all-rounder option in Akshar.
3.) Shami out, Bhuvi in (if fit).

People can blame Dhoni all they want but they have to realize that without a world class bowler, you can't win matches abroad. In India, he was successful because he had very good spinners in the team all the time. However, as soon as Zaheer's career went downhill, it was tough for him to win matches outside subcontinent because we didn't have a world class fast bowler. Ishant has bowled well in patches but is no where as consistent as Zaheer was in his prime. He has done his job of rebuilding the team and now it's upto the players to develop on their assigned role as soon as they can to move the team forward. Not the best test captain but still performed the job as well as he could with his unorthodox technique.

Saha definitely in, as many pundits claim that he is the best wicket-keeper in India at the moment. Plus, with him acting as a long term deputy to MSD, he ought to get the nod.

The second point about Dhawan being replaced is good. But then, who will open ? KL Rahul ? Poor chap seems under tremendous pressure especially after his first Test. Pujara is an option, but I don't want to move him when we do have another alternative in the form of Naman Ojha, who can open.

KL Rahul ,for whatever sins he may have committed ,deserves another chance. Although, if this feeling is not mutual, then Raina needs to come in. The benefit of Raina is the obvious fact that the batting line-up would look stronger in the absence of MSD. Raina also would lend the option of a handy off-spin bowler to the captain.

I hope this is the outcome for the New Year's Test & I seriously hope that the ill-fated 'Rohit Sharma' doesn't figure in the line-up. Yet another aspect with Captain Kohli could be that Ashwin might be rested in favour of Axar.

Ashwin might be rested in favour of Axar.

why would he need rested after two tests? I'd understand them resting the quicks who've played three tests in a fairly tight schedule for the fourth: but Ashwin's only played two tests and bowled well in both of them. The guy needs to be in regularly in the Indian team: with a second spinner on good spinny wickets and in the subcontinent.

At least it looks like Jadeja's gone for the foreseeable future. I could never understand why you'd pick Jadeja over Ashwin tbh...

There is surely to it than meets the eye.

You think so ? Many had expected this series to be his last Test series and WC'15 to be his last ODI series (in the MS Dhoni biopic thread). I am just surprised he called it quits in the middle of the series. That is the only odd thing

He will be sorely missed as a player

I think there's a possibility Dhoni gives up limited overs captaincy (definitely) after the WC and maybe wicket-keeping, but continues to play as a specialist batsman till maybe the CT in 2017.

Rahul has to open for me if Dhawan is left out, yes he had a poor Test debut but Rahane's was just as bad, Pujara's already got enough problems to deal with and I don't see Naman as an option for opening in the longer format.
WTF MSD retires !! What bullsh!t.

There is surely to it than meets the eye.
Thought you and me were the most prepared for this, all the tours outside Asia are done for another 3-4 years, back to Asia where Kohli can build on the team Dhoni's left him and look to challenge overseas in 3-4 years time.

I think there is buckets to this retirement than meets the eye. Hearing all kind and manner of things - it had something to do with the IPL fixing scandal, as Sydney Test starts on 6th and that is the day the fixing judgement is likely to be pronounced. I find this to be not the reason as if fixing was the reason, then he would not continue as ODI skipper.

Also hearing that he had lost control of the dressing room, which again seems unexpected, and feels like nonsense. Plenty of other stories doing the rounds, but this one is hard to swallow.

if you read this article you will get to know the kind of nutter MSD is :p

so not a surprise would have had it in the back of mind somewhere would have felt he has had enough or something. personally i feel its physically he is done or feels exhausted for tests, his lateral moment as keeper has been pretty down in this series..

A few things we need in the new team

1. Ashwin should NOT be rested. Why should he be rested when he is finally starting to get into the groove and even getting wickets. Let the guy have a proper run in Tests

2. Only way we will come close to winning is if we get another proper bowler. As it is our no.6 batsman has been useless. So Axar or at the very least, Raina needs to be drafted in. Aussies are still not comfortable with spin, so why not just play to their weakness

3. As mentioned before, Rohit should be locked in the dungeons and the key should be thrown in Mount Doom, Mordor

4. Saha should be given a chance over the Ojhas and Samsons, simply because anything else would be extremely unfair on the guy

but continues to play as a specialist batsman.

would be cool if he does that want to see him play freely without captaincy burden like when he started..but doubt if he will[DOUBLEPOST=1419952507][/DOUBLEPOST]
Saha should be given a chance over the Ojhas

prefer ojha as he has had some good tours in aus..saha doesnt impress much form the little we saw

Interesting. I somehow don't buy either of the stories - sound like proper rumors to me

Lets see. We will eventually come to know about it :) Maybe in MSD's biopic movie which is supposed to release a few months after the world cup (!!International Retirement Alert!!)
