India's tour of Australia - January 2016

Dhoni promoting himself at fourth spot is very unlikely. I often expect him to come at no. 4 and also most of the pundits have talked about it and belt-up themselves as he's rarely seen while batting there even though he's capable to hold the middle order and score bunch of runs too. He thinks no.6 / no. 7 is a difficult position to bat on, and imo no other batsman in team was as able as him to do so, but until last year. He hasn't been able to keep his old finishing ability by now and it seems he is not regaining it, so he should really choose to play at no. 4th, but again he won't listen to anyone.

Back on the game, India's ODI form has dipped pretty badly in recent times and the option is standing in front of us out there but we are just not wanting to pick it. Its a wierd scenario where the test team is doing far better and is in pretty good health right now. We lost an ODI series even back home and we have not seen the signs yet.

Anyways its ok because we will see a few more humiliations before we bite the bullet. Even in our batting, only the top order is fine. The middle and lower middle order is highly inept when it comes to forcing the pace of the game. The pattern is so clear - we have mighty struggled to get our big hits going when the need arises to do so and people failing at it were once highly celebrated big hitters. We seriously need the muscle in the middle order to help us achieve the totals we need to be in the game. Rohit who is highly capable of turning on 8th and 10th gears wants and is made to bat at the top just because his stats have looked better after he started opening. Rahane who is struggling to hit 3rd gear is batting at No.4 and faces situations where he has to force the pace of the game. This is crazy! I personally would swap Rahane and Rohit. Or have Rahane and Rohit open and find a better No.4 batsman (not Dhoni - he now has reached a stage where he also must open as we dont want him facing the death overs; maybe tweak cricket rules to have three batsman batting at the same time:rolleyes:p)

India's ODI cricket is in doldrums.

I would say lets wait till the T20 series starts.Pandhya although at his early stages is performing well in the domestic leagues. He is a proven big hitter and can be taken directly into the ODI team if he performs well in the T20 matches. Also Yuvraj is yet to play, and if he can become the old Yuvi that would be it.

The difference between a young captain Dhoni and old captain Dhoni. Earlier he used to make changes and give chances to young players and backed them (played Yusuf Pathan and Joginder Sharma in WT20 final). Nowdays, he is too rigid and passes judgments even before giving chances.

Who else thinks that if India loses the third straight tomorrow that Dhoni might call it quits? Heart says India won't lose a third straight tomorrow but the mind says they definitely will.

Earlier my heart and mind mind both said it's no Johnson, no Starc. All new bowling unit and Clarke has also retired so It'll be a whitewash by us. And now my heart say we'll win the remaining three. But mind says Aus will win 4-1.

This is has really been a shameful and pathetic performance from our bowlers. Only some people within the team are actually playing for the country. This is not what Indian cricket is at all. I can understand if you one match doesn't go your way when putting 300 up but two times in a row? That's a shame. The bowling is just pathetic, I don't think anyone expected this to be 0-2 australia after two matches.

I think all the bowlers would want Rohit Sharma dropped. He won't play, won't get another 100, and that way India will get out for a total no one expects them to defend anyway, and thus when Aus win, they will get no blame. :D

Cricinfo's Preview -

Dhoni all but ruled out playing Rishi Dhawan or going with fewer than two spinners. Shikhar Dhawan, too, has his backing. Manish Pandey cannot be left out without giving him even one proper innings. So expect India to play the same XI. The only change might be Bhuvneshwar Kumar coming in for Umesh Yadav.

So 3-0 then.
