India's tour of Australia - January 2016

Yea, Rohit played too good today but failing to exactly what he is best at, getting those quick bunch of runs in death. I got to mock him myself for that... :p

This is Rohit's 4th 150+ score in ODIs. Only Tendulkar (5) has more. Gayle and Jayasurya have 4 each as well.[DOUBLEPOST=1452581528][/DOUBLEPOST]I would have taken 300+ at the toss. Over the bowlers now. Ashwin will be key (when is he not off late).

Super superb innings from Rohit. Really a nice way to start this series. Great batting by Virat too; he looked more thirsty for runs today, trying to snatch those impossible singles and some delicious boundaries as well. Overall, our batting looks good at the beginning of this year so far.

Australia clearly missed Starc's yorkers there in death. Boland was in for the same purpose I guess, but it's his debut so can't really expect him to bowl without being under pressure. He tried some yorkers, but failed massively as couldn't get proper execution while pitching those deliveries. Otherwise, if Starc was in or any other good yorker specialist, we would have been restricted to something ordinary like 275 as some of the runs that were scored against Masrh and Boland would have been missed.

Anyways, it looks a good and competitive total. Shami will be missed indeed, but shouldn't be a huge deal as we've Ashwin and Jadeja who often manage to restrict the batsmen on a scoring wicket. Lets see what happens in the second innings.

Warner is the key for Aussies. We should not let him to score quick runs.

ya good score, Still wouldnt have been amiss with another 20 more!

Another bout of ashwin maxwell on the cards!

Rohit certainly played beautifully as he does always when he gets going and is there till the end!

That's Ro-HIT for you! GREAT BATTING, an inning of 171* in Australia at Perth is something a big achievement. Virat also was exceptional, going to hit when he was on 91 just for more runs was the perfect patriotism. Paris had a decent debut but Boland will remember it for years!

For the chase, we need to get early wickets. Warner and Finch both are capable of big hitting followed by the class of Smith and finishing from Maxwell, Marsh and Faulkner even Wade can get out of the park. We need to bowl well especially Yadav, in the absence of Shami, he's the best Indian Pacer for the series. A lot will also depend on Ashwin as he is the best Indian bowler of this era.

Hoping for a competitive game for us!

Nothing much to say, well played Hitman & Virat. I can't see us lose this game.

Yeah, that's the quality which makes you a great opener. How often we see so called one of the best openers like Dave, Finch, Guptill, Baz, etc scoring near 150 or more than that? 7 out of 9 hundreds by Rohit have came at opening spot, where 4 have been 150+ and other 3s were 137, 138, 141*(which is near 150 and long enough for an opener). Now, how many openers really manage to do that when they get a hundred, not every time. See, that's the quality of Rohit which make him a reliable batsman more than a flat track bully as he will be there till the end collecting runs for his team. Yet again, he will be mocked and labeled as a htb/ftb. So stupid.

to be fair rohit rarely comes through in tough situations or conditions yet! Though it would be unfair to not say that his limited overs form has been pretty good this year!

We have to see why people get so frustrated with Rohit. He has been given a really long rope and the only other guy who has been given that is Ishant Sharma. Yet, when it comes down to the crunch, he throws his wicket away. I don`t think the hate against him is unjust.

I think to be honest Rohit deserves his place in the limited overs side, no questions asked. If anything he is among the first few names you put on the teamsheet for limited overs games.

He is not a test player though. He doesn't have the game for tests. He likes to play his shots and in tests, it becomes a problem for him. The pitch is usually offering a lot more, the bowlers have a lot more going for them, the ball is doing more, they are allowed to bowl bouncers, etc. Rohit just has to play a lavish shot every 10-15 runs. He will get to a 30 or so and then get out playing an exapansive shot. It works in ODIs as the pitch is helpful to batting, the bowlers are mostly on the defensive, but in tests it doesn't, because the pitch is either not condusive for that shot, or the bowling is more attacking.

A quick 30 doesn't help anyone in tests, and Rohit just can't help himself. In limited overs its fine, an asset even, but in tests its a downright laibility.
