India's Tour of South Africa Dec 21 - Jan 22

So this is so freaking funny. We have a T20 world cup next year and we instead of scrapping ODI's, scrapt T20's.. what? This tour is on and I expected this to go ahead. Rohit Sharma has officially taken over the captaincy role from Virat in limited overs so he will be leading the side.

India’s Test team for South Africa: Squad: Virat Kohli (Capt),Rohit Sharma(vc), KL Rahul, Mayank Agarwal, Pujara, Rahane, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Rishabh Pant(wk), Wriddhiman Saha(wk), Ashwin, Jayant Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Shami, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Shardul, Siraj

Good to see Vihari back in the squad. He surely plays since he is also the leading run scorer in the ongoing India A tour. While I feel its almost time, this would be Rahane's one last attempt to redeem himself. Puji and Rahane if they perform, will stay or else one of them may lose their position. Excited for the test series.

Wait, are we really going without Ravindra Jadeja? Ashwin & Jadeja were quite successful as a bowling pair in Australia. Jadeja got a 4-fer at SCG.

South Africa offers similar surfaces so not having Jadeja could cost us a bit. So perhaps it gives us an indication that we would continue to play 4 seamers?

If Iyer is indeed being side-lined, I guess something went down during his time at Delhi. He had initially taken off from virtually nowhere, was groomed jointly by Ganguly and Ponting and almost led DC to the title in 2020.

Just wanted to highlight one of @NILAYSHAH60 earlier points- Why have they scrapped T20 in a year in which the WT20 has been scheduled? Fail to see the rationale of such a decision- T20's are bound to bring in money to the UCBSA (or wtw its called nowadays) and the host broadcaster. Really really surprised!

Possibly BCCI is still intent on promoting the ODI Cricket. I really don't understand it either.

Whichever way you look at it- Its just not adding up.

Originally, I though they want to play ODI to help SA qualify directly for the CWC 2023. However, SA is 5th on the rankings table and that is unlikely to change any time soon. The other could be to wallop SA so bad, that they are forced to make drastic changes to their side

Then they could've continued with the T20 series provided that South Africa had an average WT20 just recently. As per the original schedule, ODIs were to be played before the T20Is. So perhaps they wanted to stick with the original schedule and T20s are postponed only because they want to end the tour as early as possible so that they could get enough rest before the West Indies series.

Guess the ODI WC immediately following up in 2023 is influencing the decision? Its weird times where you play back to back T20 World Cups in two years and then immediately follow it up in 6-7 months with an ODI World Cup.

Similar situations before 2011 WC could've happened if my guess is a good one then!

There's utter b.s doing the rounds everywhere.

What is this nonsense about Harbhajan Singh being offered a farewell game now??? That he will be drafted in the team???

TOI seems to have reported this. Its already abuzz on Twitter and TOI's correspondent K Shriniwas Rao just fueled the flames by stating there's a big controversy on the way!

Rohit Sharma ruled out for the Test series vs South Africa...

Ruled out as he got a hamstring injury... did he really get injured though? Sus.
During net practice he got injured in hand
