India's Tour of South Africa Dec 21 - Jan 22

Didn't we ourselves want Kohli to step down & Rohit to get the Captaincy role? And now it's actually happening so what are we complaining about?
Yes, you can read my post in India Team Discussion about that. AGAIN, I don't have any issues with Rohit becoming captain and winning us as my ICC trophies as possible and what not. My point is something else

"the activity of trying to persuade someone in authority, usually an elected member of a government, to support laws or rules that give your organization or industry an advantage"
The thing is no one actually needed a persuasion because it was a given that Rohit had to takeover Kohli at some point. It doesn't matter what Gavaskar says because anyone who has closely followed Indian Cricket would recommend Rohit at the helm. So it has nothing to do with Mumbai. I do get that Kohli was needed to be addressed about this issue beforehand and this is where BCCI was at fault. But to relate it to Mumbai lobbying doesn't sound right at all. And it's not as if Kohli wasn't given enough authority and preference when he was the Captain. They've seen it enough and they feel Kohli is only going down from here on in when we talk about his Captaincy stint so they are just trying to save themselves from the criticism they might receive.

My last attempt and direct point with example.

Yuzvender Chahal says 'I have a good relationship with Rohit bhai and Bhabhi', Jayant yadav says 'Rohit as a captain gives me a freehand.' and many others.

Thats called lobbying. Asking yourself to be heard and acknowledged. Persuading Rohit and BCCI to pick you. Having seen how calm and innocent Rohit is compared to Kohli, he might fall for this buttering. If they are deserving, you are more than welcome to give them the chance. But if they are not and you bring them in, that's where the problem arise. We have already experienced that with Pandya being picked in WC team for his stats even after his poor performance in IPL. Kohli failed there. Same shouldn't happen with Rohit. That's my point. All this praising thing happened when Rohit was picked and Kohli was kicked. My question is why now?

Oh! I get it now, you mean to say that players appreciating Rohit because they want to get a side now in the Indian team is a little unfair. I agree with you on this that it's wrong to do that! But perhaps we are just assuming things right? Because all these things can be known on long term basis. We may not know what their intention was so won't be right to make assumptions right now unless anything unfair actually comes out of this.

Also you know these media people they write what not rubbish when they want to attract some audience. In the age of social media and all these things do become a trend to discuss. We eventually get so much involved in all those things that it leads to us to think on the problems that actually don't exist in reality. Maybe a little bit of perception also plays a part in this.

KLR as Test vice-captain! God help Indian cricket!

I feel this has been done to ensure Kohli stays sane on this tour. I shall not dive deep in KLR's appointment, as I have , many a times, in various threads, relayed my thoughts on this topic. That said though, where's all the talk of the so-called #MumbaiLobby now? With Dravid as coach, Sunil Joshi as 2nd in command selector, Mayank as opener, Virat, Siraj (RCB quota) and KLR as vice-captain, can I make a claim of #KarnatakaLobby ?

I really really hope that Kohli doesn't get injured during the Test series. If he does, hope KLR is also injured. Don't mind anyone else captaining India, but KLR in that position is an abomination!

Yes.

Its surprising that they give test vice captaincy to KL Rahul. I mean, come on!!! Cant Ashwin be a stand-in vice captain until Rohit returns back? I know Ashwin's place in overseas tests has been made to look vulnerable and he's a bowler, but for this series with the absence of Jadeja and Axar, Ashwin is definitely a sure-shot pick in the XI. Or for that matter, Cheteshwar Pujara? Or are they giving Pujara the message that "we cant give you vice captaincy because your test spot is soon to be in danger". What if KL Rahul has a lean series?

Hmmm..... Let us come to the playing XI for the Centurion Test

1. Mayank :bat:
2. KLR v/:c: :bat:
3. Pujara :bat:
4. VK :c: :bat:
5. Rahane :bat:
6. Vihari :ar:
7. Pant :wkb:
8. Ashwin :bwl:
9. Mohammed Shami :bwl:
10. Mohammed Siraj :bwl:
11. Jasprit Bumrah :bwl:

3 seamers and a spinner with Vihari's part-time is going to be the combination. Other than that as I have said “n” number of times would be compromising on our batting. Siraj over Ishant is a bold call but Ishant hasn't look great off late so have to leave him out.

I hear the series is being played behind closed doors. TV rights apart, the SA board ain't going to earn much. I also, very much doubt the fact that the TV rights are being sold on a series-by-series basis in SA. Still not a big fan of the tour going ahead with all this Omnicrom talk.

On the issue of TV rights, seems that Star India has once again gotten back the rights to telecast cricket played in SA. In the last 4 years, Sony had snapped up all external cricket rights. So, perhaps a good thing for Star + Ravi Shastri is supposedly making a comeback in the commentary box for this tour.

Star India actually got the rights in March 2020 but due to Covid they did not have anything much to show apart from 3TC, England series, Sri Lanka series, Pakistan series & Netherlands series.

South Africa is actually reporting 'mild' illness among its "infected and/or vaccinated" population. Also based on all the data that's been coming from there, the peak has passed and the "decoupling" (cases and hospitalizations/deaths moving in opposite directions) has started to happen.

I am even surprised that they've decided to host this behind closed doors.

We don't want idiots like Jarvo 69 run on the field in these situations.
