India's Tour of South Africa Dec 21 - Jan 22

I've called Jansen a talent with great potential before but this is too soon to debut him, especially ahead of Olivier who has been on fire in FC cricket.

I remember saying it was criminal to leave KL out on that NZ tour. Should never have lost his place in the side in the first place but our lack of patience as a cricket set up and country made him pay the price.

Waiting now for the same people to sing his hymns of praise. NZ left to conquer for this man and a shame we have wasted 4-5 years of a sensational talent.

This playing XI was so perfect that I am actually surprised. This is unlike us as we do not go with our best XI for the first match.

KL Rahul is a treat to watch when in form. Puji will get into the rhythm. Rahane currently playing career saving innings.

Overall got up to some really nice decisions and batting.

KLR's career is divided in several parts:-

2014-15: Lack of experience
2016: Consistency marred by injuries
2017: Lack of ability to convert starts into big scores (more so due to having one-dimensional approach to all formats of the game) which in turn affected his confidence
2018-20: Trying to reacess his flawed game and working on it to improve it
2021: All that hardwork reaping rewards

There was a certain left-right combination of Delhi batters whom we considered as our best opening pair. The end result was we backed them on the basis of past performance to the extent where they started to stagnate and continued to be in the team despite notable performances. Those 4-0 in Australia & England was a result of it.

Also whom we could've replaced? Vijay (our best opener during 2013-17), Dhawan (consistent performances at home & a century in NZ), Mayank Agarwal (someone who most runs in domestic circuit since 2015), Shaw (a young batsman who scored a century on debut).

All these people were tried and tested because the former lacked experience initially and was later struggling to get his confidence and the idea about his game. In a country of million Cricketers you have to keep moving if others are performing well. Also KLR wouldn't have been the batsman today had he not been dropped. The drop out perhaps proved to be a wake-up call for him.
