India's tour of West Indies June 2011

Saha hasnt even played much for CSK. Suddenly the selectors have developed a soft corner for Saha who is pretty new to CSK. Going by that note, they should have persisted with Vijay who offers a better opening option along with Gambhir and has played for India before and opened.

Rayudu not being picked is a surprise, but I can see why he is not picked (they are giving weight to domestic performances over IPL performance, and I guess Rayudu hasnt performed big in domestic cricket).

Rayudu scored 566 runs at an avg. of 56.60 in the previous season in Ranji trophy. Saha not even close.

Yeah, that's something they can't do. They just want to make conspiracy theories that Saha is there because he's a CSK player. Obviously they don't know anything about domestic cricket outside the IPL. They also don't realize how many Delhi players there are as well- Mishra, Sehwag, Kohli, Ishant, Gambhir, Nehra, Dhawan (made his ODI debut this year). If anybody is there, it's on merit.

Everyone seems to forget that for years we had a Mumbai lobby where so many good cricketers from the South were ignored for no good reason.

Rayudu was the 8th highest scorer in the Ranjis and scored at an average of 57. Saha isn't anywhere to be found. Rayudu is also playing very well in the IPL, Saha isn't even playing.

If it's not because Saha'a a CSK player, I'd like to know the reason, because Im baffled.

Oh, here are the stats, BTW: Cricket Records | Ranji Trophy Super League, 2010/11 | Records | Most runs | ESPN Cricinfo

Dhoni seems to be backing him a lot, must've seen something good in him. Although it increases pressure on him now to perform.

Saha isn't there only because of this season. He has consistently been one of Bengal's best batsmen as shown by his FC and List A averages of 40. He is also an extremely tidy keeper- atheltic and agile. Rayudu is just a backup keeper, not a keeper by trade. Also, Saha was already in the Indian ODI set up in the series vs New Zealand. Sure he didn't do much in those 3 matches but he only batted once in 3 matches. They didn't get a good enough look at him and one innings is not enough to drop him.

I guess they wanted to have two wicketkeepers for the tour of the WI. If Dhoni had gone, Saha wouldn't have gone. And they wanted to pick a more reliable wicketkeeper and so they picked Saha who is a specialist keeper rather than Rayudu who is a makeshift keeper (much like Robin Uthappa). And they have picked Rohit Sharma because after Badrinath, he has been the second highest scorer in domestic cricket and has had a very good showing in the IPL too and also has India experience. I expected Rayudu in the team, but the selections made have sound logic behind them.

Rohit Sharma had poor visit to SA, at that time too, he was having good domestic record. I think they should have gone with Manoj Tiwary, remember he was selected once and unfortunately he got injured on eve of his debut

He plays for CSK, the matter ends there.

Have you guys started watching cricket only after the IPL era? Saha is`nt even from Chennai. The zones are`nt decided based upon IPL franchises. Its still the Ranji Trophy states for which each player plays for which decides the zone. Robin Uthappa playing for Pune doesn`t make him a Pune guy!

Or Ambati Rayudu being picked would`nt make it bias towards Mumbai because he does`nt play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy!

Kohli would be a better option, but I think Raina will win for his experience.

The ICC has invested a lot in associate nations and they need to for them to develop. But we're in a similar situation

I say the bolded all the time. Cricket is small community with just 8 strong nations. ICC should be spending money to help the weaker of these top 8 teams. So as to make cricket extremely competitive amongst the main 8 nations. Instead of wasting it to try to promote it in America etc.

Another case of club vs country. Both Gambhir and Sehwag have been guilty of the same case. I guess at some point of time, an international window for the IPL is definitely going to happen. People might argue 'why a window for domestic cricket', but when all international players are dying to play in this domestic league and it threatens the very existence of international cricket, it is wise to give the league its own space and make sure it doesnt threaten international sport.

IMO, the ICC and other countries need to find a way to not get swayed by the money that India pumps into the sport, or else India will continue to boss over the sport.

How will Sehwag and Gambhir fiasco be solved by an international window for the league? The problem is players might still tend to play the full tournament and nurse their injuries when their country has a tour/series.
