IPL IPL: 500 players to be auctioned in July

Yeah. Its entertaining everyone at its best. Cheer gals, full cheering flow from crowd, and more that all the above, the nerve pinching tension made it possible. And nash, if players sign up, what can modi do?

Each team can retain a total of 6 players (4 Indians and 2 foreigners). Most likely MS Dhoni will be retained by CSK (they were the most vocal and made sure the IPL implemented this feature), Sachin by Mumbai, Sehwag by Delhi and Ganguly by Kolkata. Most likely, Yuvraj will be retained by KXIP too. Not sure about Dravid because Mallya might let Dravid go.

It might be interesting to see players being shuffled. That way you give the two new teams (who are coming in) a chance at all the players. Also unlike auction 1, here form in Twenty20 and previous IPL will be given more weightage which will be far better than bidding on pure reputation which happened in the first mega auction.

*breaking news*

No Pakistani players in those 500. Franchises thought there were better players out there.

like some 1 said, how can you support a team with new players every year. i mean Kolkata ppl will still support KKR, but if they drop McCullum, none of those NZ fans will support them. Modi is dumb

May be kkr will retain baz. Who knows.?. I'm pretty sure that dc will retain symonds and gibbs along with rohit, rp , ojha and venugopal.

i guess they would go for retaining Gilchrist rather than Gibbs

The thing is, the players also have to agree on remaining with their respective sides. For example, if CSK wants Dhoni to stay and Dhoni doesnt want to stay with them, then Dhoni is put up for auction.

Ridiculous thing this.If that's gonna happen,no one would be able to follow any team.Imagine Ganguly playing for Mumbai and Sachin playing for Rajasthan, etc. That may not happen but still,Modi seems to kill his own creation here.

As I said, 6 players from each team will be retained according to the new rule. It will be 4 Indians and 2 foreigners. Most likely, icons like Sachin, Ganguly, Sehwag, Yuvraj and Dhoni (for CSK) will be retained with their respective teams. Not sure about Dravid, but hope he is retained with BRC too. Hayden wont want to move away from Chennai (he has made Chennai his new home). I think Dhoni, Hayden and Hussey might stay with Chennai.

Despite the whole retaining thing, it's still stupid. I've grown to like this current Bangalore team - if they switch players around, I'll find it pointless. Plus, a lot of players have moved to their home teams over the course of the competition, like Pandey and Tiwary. I think they'd definetely like to continue playing for their home teams too. Switching around players is just a bad, bad idea, for me.

8 teams is more than enough. We have enough international players warming the benches. Increasing the slots isn't doing anyone any favours.

I thought I was a Royal's supporter, because of Warne and Smith, but I might now become a KKR fan. Maybe in some time, I'll be a fan of each team, as Smith bounces from one team to another. Yay me!!!

Meh, it only matters for those who actually feel the city/state rivalries within the IPL. Frankly, I don't. I wasn't very saddened by the fact that BRC beat CSK in the semis, for example. I watch it for the players, not the teams.

I defo back Chennai as it is my hometown but I support Bangalore as well as I am Kannada, and prefer the players in that team.

Best thing about the IPL for me is the element of the regional battle. Domestic cricket isn't followed at all so this is the best thing to have the classic North vs South rivalry :p

Hard to build loyal fans if you keep changing the team drastically every 3 years.
