IPL IPL Player Auction 2011

No, well I thought at least in the first few seasons it was an amount proportionate to your availability as a player.

To me,Murali Kartik selling for less than a million was the biggest shocker.
The guy was the best damn bowler last season, has a fantastic record and is a T20 specialist of sorts.
He didn't even get a bid in the first round which i just can't digest.
Possibly another BCCI screwjob because he plays a lot of County cricket?
As Bravo and Pollard were the only West Indians to have been bought,Gayle not being bought doesn't seem as odd now and is possibly due to the reason Zorax mentioned.

So, can players still be bought by the franchises?

Still there can be free agent trades. So if a team thinks that they need an Indian player they can pick Ganguly

Right, so somebody could now come along and just take Ganguly without anyone being able to stop them. I would have thought that either DC or KXIP would have got Ganguly in the second round seeing as they still had 2m left.

I wonder whether Ganguly will make himself available for a free agent trade or not.

lol @ Gayle unsold.

Internationals should go upto 6-7 per side imo or just change the definition from Indian to International. Its just pathetic and embarrassing seeing kids that will never make it to the national side get bid over cricketing legends like this..i don't know, I get what non-Indian IPL haters feel like now.

I would say teams got desperate on the second day after missing their buys from the first day and paid overs for some of the players. Christian is good but not yet in the 900k zone. Also Munaf Patel for 700k is a rip off.

Snapping up O'Keefe for 20k was a steal, aggressive with the bat and gets the job done with the ball.

I might be done as a Deccan fan.

I first thought it when they changed the franchises name from Hyderabad to Deccan, but it's obvious now:

They don't give a shit.

Leaving 2.2 million on the table is inexcusable. We could have had Yuvraj for that money. Or Rohit Sharma. Or Uthappa. Or De Villers. Or Zaheer.

It's not like they just made a mistake with their bidding either. It's obvious what their strategy was. They obviously just wanted to save money. They could have gotten EVERY good Indian player on day 2 (Kartik, Ganguly, Munaf, etc.), or even an overseas player (Gayle), but they didn't.

Why did Punjab and Deccan waste their purse given to them for the auction? They are now going to fill their team up with some local players from catchment areas/domestic teams. But couldnt even one of them choose Ganguly? I mean is he that bad that even one team didnt want to pick him?

I don't know about Punjab, but Deccan didnt pick him up because we're tweaking cheap.

He would have been a solid asset.

I wanted KKR to get Keefe instead of Pattinson.

How Symmo and Bhajji will be able to play in same team?:p

Well RCB have a damn strong starting lineup and I'm loving Mumbai's squad too. CSK is nearly the same.

I just hope that MI would manage to get these three: Dhawal Kulkarni, Ajinkya Rahane and Iqbal Abdulla.
