IPL IPL Player Auction 2011

He also has the potential to completely disband a team as many of us know. That's the main reason why he wasn't bought IMO.
Must have heard of his curse, ask poor Brendon McCullum about it. :p

Good point

----------

Deccan looking i very bad shape. They dont have any local batting talent, Ganguly would have been a good pick for DC.

Deccan have a fine team. We can easily win the championship.

We have match-winning batsmen (Cam White, KP, Sanga), a solid allrounder if we need him (Christian), a strike bowler (Steyn), and 2 potentially good Indian bowlers (Ojha, Sharma).

The problem I had with them is that they could have been even better if they spent more money.

Well, Pandey has rejected the binding contract from RCB. Pune is the front runner for his signature atm, but it seems like there could be some added incentives to that contract, which could be illegal according to IPL rules, and could get Pandey into trouble. Can't say I didn't see this coming. At the moment, it's just a rumour that the contract has added incentives. For all we know, Pandey could just be getting a more certain guarantee of first team cricket at Pune, and in any case Bangalore's catchment area has tons of talent. Although, Pandey is undoubtedly the most high profile talent in the area.

RCB may file a complaint against Pandey, Times of India

Another article makes a fair point that if uncapped foreign players like Mitchell Marsh can make the auction, why can't Indian domestic players who've performed well over the IPL or domestic cricket make the auction? Hilarious ruling by the IPL really.

And when will the final list of catchment signings be released by the teams ?? Surprised with the Pandey news article though . That will be a certain talent gone for RCB should he depart .

I just read somewhere that Mumbai Indians offered Ambati Rayudu a 80-lakh offer when his annual salary is slated to be only 30 lakhs. And RCB offered him even bigger offer.

Don't know whether it's true or not but he can be a spectacular pick to any team.

I might be done as a Deccan fan.

I first thought it when they changed the franchises name from Hyderabad to Deccan, but it's obvious now:

They don't give a shit.

Leaving 2.2 million on the table is inexcusable. We could have had Yuvraj for that money. Or Rohit Sharma. Or Uthappa. Or De Villers. Or Zaheer.

It's not like they just made a mistake with their bidding either. It's obvious what their strategy was. They obviously just wanted to save money. They could have gotten EVERY good Indian player on day 2 (Kartik, Ganguly, Munaf, etc.), or even an overseas player (Gayle), but they didn't.

That was my revolt too. They started off as bad as you hate, they retained no players. Let Gilly and Sharma out. They'd still have saved their money over had they retained them. They started to bid and drop down when they had so much money the cards will crash to, and their strategy to make a well-balanced side got them to the pits early on on the first day.

I think it'll give them a few blows for not picking some good chaps. Yusuf could've been a good buy, they well bid for him but I don't know they were over their worries to save up the money.

But then I began to feel the so called well balanced plan began to actually be a good one. My worry's they got in too many overseas players and few Indian guys. They should've picked stand up and trash demon players. Pathan brothers would've been good buys. Murali karthik would have been great as well.

They looked for balance but it's to be seen if specialists will be bought on further in time. Their plan might have been prompted from the debacles and close endings they've had in the previous seasons. They had few perfect players, and few nuts. There was no formidable support to the lower order and vice versa to the higher order of the batsmen. I'm decently happy with the squad they have now, Bowlers are the pick of the auction for me and which can probably be pipped to be one of the challenging of the lot but I do feel they could've done more or probably the best of any team therein the auction and bought some sensible players.

Hopefully the only crooked thing we can imagine is to see some players reject contracts from their franchises and Deccan grab them up! :p There's no end to being silly.

RCB looks a good squad now but there are some unwanted players who were picked like

Johan van der Wath i dont know what role he will play
Nuwan Pradeep worst Bowling Avg
Mohammad Kaif :facepalm

And the best picks were

Rilee Rossouw @ base price
Jonathan Vandiar @ base price

All players who have played IPL before should be put on auction. Just because Saurabh Tiwary played an ODI or two for India, he gets in millions while Pandey didnt have the fortune of playing for India and he gets only 20 lakhs? Tiwary got that money because of his IPL stint. Same with Pandey who is a star now because of the IPL.

IPL 2011: Rajasthan pick four as franchises focus on Ranji final | Cricket News | Indian Premier League 2011 | ESPN Cricinfo

Rajasthan have picked up Menaria, Chahar and Aakash Chopra(lol, he's considered uncapped...). And a keeper in Yagnik, who is meh I guess.

Pune have come to an agreement with Kamran Khan.

Baroda's Pinal Shah, Bharghav Bhatt, Swapnil Singh, Kedar Devdhar and Murtuja Vahora are all likely to get contracts finalised soon as well with unnamed franchises.

Kanitkar been approached by Kochi.

Bangalore sorting out an agreement with Mayank Agarwal, who I think is the most promising LO format player from the latest batch of U-19 players.

Also, in another article that I read earlier but can't find now, Jhunjhunwala was approached by Pune, Kochi and Rajasthan. And Mandeep Singh(Punjab, another classy player from the latest U-19s) was approached by 4 unnamed franchises.

I don't see how this team is any more balanced than the old one.

The 2008-2010 team relied entirely on gilly, gibbs, symonds, and sharma. This one will rely entirely on KP, Sangakkara, Cameron White, and Dhawan.
At least the old team had batsmen like Laxman, suman, and Venugopoal rao who could play the occasional solid innings. This team doesn't even HAVE other Indian batsmen other than Dhawan.

Both this team and the old one had Ojha. Both had solid, not good fast bowlers (This one Sharma, old one RP singh).

The only advantage this team has over the last one is that we can play Steyn instead of Ryan Harris/Styris/Dwayne Smith/Fidel/ etc.

Once again, this team can win the championship because none of the other teams are brillitantly constructed either, but it's disappointing because it could have been SOOO much better if the team wasn't cheap.

EDIT: The one way this team can be more balanced than the old one is if we get players like Manish Pandey or Ambati rayudu. But there's no way this loser management will shell out 80 lakhs for them. Ugh.

Well now I understand why the BCCI was giving so many youngsters a chance to play at least a match or two for India. They wanted more and more players to be a part of the auction.

I don't think that has anything to do with it. :rolleyes They are all good players in any case, which has shown with consistent performances in all forms of the game.

Seriously, the BCCI conspiracies are reaching insane limits.

My post was a sarcastic one. I just forgot to put the smiley there.

+1.
I dunno how come Saurabh Tiwary's price is 7 odd Crores, while far more better batsman than him, Manish Pandey's cost is 20 Lakh, just because Manish has not been picked up into Indian squad due to dirty politics of Cheeka (yeah, I say that its politics, whatever you may think, but I think thats its complete politics, which ruled him out of Indian test squad against South Africa (Nagpur test) and The Zimbabwean tour. I still dunno how he has been left out of India A squad, which played with Indian main squad name in Zimbabwe).

----------

All those issues apart, now, BCCI should do something, which makes cricket raise its head.

Its a pretty shameful situation for both BCCI and IPL.

I feel BCCI should consider these two cases (Manish Pandey and Ambati Rayudu) and make them choose the franchisee which pays the most.
