Leeds United Mums XI

Basically this game is based on my Battrick team - Leeds United Mums XI (creative name, Eh?)
Im in my second full season after winning promotion in my OD division this year. Im looking for promotion in both my first class leagues and T20 leagues as well as getting a respectable position in my OD league.
Some magnificent results in BT20 recently and I should be the shock promotion this year.

Main Players -

Brett Willis - An Australian fast bowler one of my primary wicket takers this year, my clubs record transfer at just above ?400,000. At 33 years of age he is still going well.

Graham Kampa - A right arm medium pacer whose accuracy beats batsman as he maintains an average of less than fifteen in all competitions this season At only 21 years of age he is defiantly one for the future.

Jordan Joele - A partnership breaker and a big influence in the dressing room. Even though mainly a bowler he knows which end of the bat to hold and has hit many runs batting at number 7.

Manavendra Shill - A 22 year old Indian all rounder. Leg spin bowler who averages around 20 with the ball in all forms of the game. He also averages 77 in first class cricket and is constantly relied on for many runs late on in the innings.

Steven Lane & Louis Dudfield - Both 18 year old New Zealanders. Steven Lane one of LUMs opening batsman where as Dudfield bats at three. Both have very high averages in all forms of the game and are big prospects for the future. Lane can also be used as a part time bowler.

Timothy Elam - A new singing costing around ?350,000, the 20 year old is a real all rounder, he can bowl, bat and keep. He is mainly being used as a wicket keeper, batsman however - at the moment at least. Even though he is new to the squad he has scored many runs only getting out once so far and is a big asset to the team.

Abthul Felsinger - The skipper, at 34 years of age he is still LUMs best player as he consistently hits runs. The team always rely on him for runs and even with his age he is still the most valuable player in the whole team. An absolute bargain at ?56,000. Words could not describe how valuable Felsinger is to the team.

Rotational Players -

Rafee Dino - A 17 year old fast bowler. He is looking very good in friendlies and could certainly be one for the future.

Tom London - At 33 years of age his better years may be beyond him however he still is capable of bowling and getting wickets of the best batsman in the division.

Jnyaneshwar Govender - A class act. At 33 again he may be past his better years but that won't stop him getting runs. With three triple hundreds to his name and a number of first class centuries he could still be a big player for LUMs.

Ken Thackeray - A brilliant off spin bowler who started amazingly to his LUMs career and had a brilliant start to this season however he has been unlucky in the middle stages of the season with his stamina decreasing as he reaches 33 years old.

Prince Clovey & Bob Daniels - Two opening batsman, both 17 years of age and with alot to give could make a big impact in years to come. Especially after a double century today by Prince Clovey.

Reserves

Gordon Downey - Another player into his thirties however a strong reserve and he will hit runs when it matters.

Seymour Hemmings - An off spinner who pins batsman down at one end with the hope the bowler at the other end will take the wicket.

Gurcharan Udpikar - A bowling all rounder who would have been something special in his prime but now he can only act as a back up.


Leeds United Mums are currently 1st in both their FC league and BT20 league and they will hope to continue this with a string of easy fixtures. They sit in 3rd place in their OD league.

Today’s Match:

Today was the first day of their First class match against Coddo Crusaders CC. Leeds United Mums heavily rested but Clovey got the team off to a comfortable start with him and Joele putting on 121. Then Steven Lane came in the unusual position of 3. He hit a very quick 43 before falling caught behind to a wide ball outside off stump.

Dudfield and Clovey put on just short of 300 with two marvellous innings with Clovey quite idiotically getting out on 225 being ran out after he called for a run that never was and he ended comfortably short.

Dudfield ended the day on 155* with Felsinger riding along on 26*

Leeds United Mums Vs Coddo Crusaders Day 2


Leeds United Mums started the day on 529 and even after many calls for a declaration; Felsinger decided that the team should carry on batting. Mainly due to Manager Will Rose requesting that the three days shall be played, most likely for finance purposes. With Dudfield ending yesterday on 155* he would look to add many runs onto his overnight score. Felsinger had also made a promising start ending the day on 26*.


Felsinger quickly added runs to his total as he reached 50 after only ten overs had been bowled in the day. These two continued to put on runs as they pushed past the 100 partnership mark and Dudfield confirmed a first double hundred, hitting it in the best way possible; a six!

But as good a batsman as Felsinger is he just couldn’t get into a rhythm before lunch as he may have hit some marvellous shots but he combined that with a lot of luck. He had two edges through the slips, many play & misses and was dropped by the bowler, a hard chance albeit. But somehow he managed to stay in till lunch as he went in on 98 not out. However two easy singles straight after lunch gave him yet another hundred as the fans applauded.

Dudfield and Felsinger started to hit the ball around with the hopes of an early declaration. They looked to be making a brilliant partnership however their 398 run partnership came to an end when Felsingers luck ran out (on 143!) as he tried to hit a wide long-hop through cover and could only find the edge which resulted in a simple catch for Norton behind the stumps. 780-4, Declaration time? Apparently not.

Even with Elams great form at the moment he had been heavily criticised for poor batting in First Class matches. His critics seemed to believe he had poor temperament and that he couldn’t concentrate for long periods of time. He set out to prove his critics wrong and he really did. Making a quick 50 (off 40 balls) he couldn’t have looked any better.

But it was Louis Dudfield who really drew the pundit’s attention as he crossed the 300 mark – a feat never accomplished by a Leeds United Mums XI’s player – with only the mind to hit more. Elam and Dudfield then continued to heap more runs to the total with the declaration no where in sight. Both made runs as they approached there next milestones, 350 & 100. With both dispatching the bowlers to all parts of the ground. Dudfield was first to reach his landmark with a four to cap off his 350. Its funny, I heard rumours he was looking at singing for a team in India before this match, the kiss of the badge when celebrating suggests otherwise.

As the game when into its 200th over the three main Coddo Crusaders bowlers, Hodgson, Foy and Hulbert seemed to just get further and further frustrated with their poor bowling. But controversy was sparked when Hulbert bowled a rare straight ball that Dudfield tried to block and run. Dudfield and Elam went for a tight single but as the bowler was about to throw at the stumps he collided with Dudfield. It looked accidental but Hulbert really was making a fuss about it. The umpire had stern words with Hulbert.

Elam seemed to start slowing down as he reached his first Leeds United Mums century after being not out in the 90’s twice and the 80’s once. He was nearly caught in the nineties after Hulbert bowled him a big full toss which he chipped straight to a fielder however the ball feel inches short and he lived to fight another day. On 98 he hit one off his pads straight to Foy who fumbled the ball over the boundary and he had that shortly awaited maiden LUMs ton.

The declaration still didn’t come though as Dudfield and Elam continued to heap runs onto the total. The team eventually declared with Dudfield on 384* and Elam on 112* as the team reached 1003-4 off 212 overs leaving 8 overs left off the day.

Rafee Dino would open the bowling on his first class debut and it started well for the young fast bowler, hitting Coddo Crusaders bastman Fettis in the ribs. Willis was to open the bowling at the other end. Fettis and Buffong were the opening pair. Dino's first over went for two then Willis bowled a superb maiden before Dino got an early break through! The ball reaching a speed of 92 mph just swinging away found the edge and Dudfield took a good catch at second slip. Buffong out for a duck, 3-1.

But if Coddo Crusaders thought things could only get better however they were lucky not to be proved wrong. Willis peppered Challinor - the new batsman - with three consecutive bouncers which he missed all three and then followed up with a demon yorker which narrowly missed off stump, brilliantly bowled. And with the last ball off the over he continued to look dangerous with a bouncer that hit Fetis in the grill and knocked him off his feet!

Challinor continued to lead a lucky life as he edged one from Dino through first slip away for a single and then Dino forced him to play and miss (again). It looked as if the two batsman would struggle through the end of the days play without losing a wicket though. But Willis managed to hit Fetis in the box with two balls left off the day then have a huge shout for a plumb looking LBW turned down by the umpire. Coddo Crusaders end the day 17-1, lucky to be only one down.

Overall a brilliant day for LUMs XI however their poor declaration skills could come back to haunt them as they need to bowl Coddo Crusaders XI out twice tommorow.

Manager William Rose described the batting performance from Dudfield as "spectacular." He added "I'm really happy with the way the team are playing at the moment and i fully believe we can win both our first class and T20 divisons."

Pitch & Weather report day 3 – The final day.

The captain of Leeds United Mums and Coddo Crusaders Hodgson and Felsinger checked the pitch early on and it really suited the bowling sides. Cracks formed in the pitch for the spin bowlers, humid and cloudy conditions up above and Leeds United Mums really had hope.

Coddo Crusaders started the day 17-1 as they looked to make twenty wickets last 110 over, surely that’s possible? Dino seemed to think not as he bowled an absolute beauty to begin the day that was dropped by Willis at first slip, both were devastated. Dino and Willis however continued to put pressure on Challinor and Fettis with some tight bowling. They managed to bowl five maidens in a row yet still didn’t take a wicket. Deciding it was time for a change, Felsinger brought on usual opening bowler Graham Kampa from the pavilion end and Manavendra Shill from the Lucas Radebe end.

Kampa however ended the partnership with an out swinger that moved just away off the seam and clipped Challinors off stump. 41-2 and in came Coddo Crusaders veteran Matty Hatfield. Fettis however was taking his time in his innings but he seemed to get bored as he tried to hit Shill over mid-on twice in a row before trying to paddle sweep him over Downey’s (the stand in keeper for Leeds United Mums as they tried to use Elam as a bowler) head but he totally missed the ball and was hit plumb in front. The umpire had to put his finger up. Ron Iwuajoku was the new batsman, he and Hatfield were determined to put on runs. And they did just that! They took the time to 122 before Hatfield fell victim to a stock ball from Joele (the partnership breaker) and found the edge. 122-4 and surely with only 65 overs left in the day, LUMS couldn’t take 16 wickets. Could they?

But Joele struck only overs later to remove Moyo for 8 with another dangerous stock ball finding an edge with Downey taking a simple catch. Iwuajoku continued to ball well as the tried to grab the game by the scruff of the neck and confirmed a fifty. However unfortunately Willis was brought back on and he forced Iwuajoku to try and play over square leg but Felsinger took a stunning catch and Iwuajoku was back on his way to the pavilion. However two overs later with Willis bowling Felsinger dropped a regulation catch.

But Lane was then brought on after a poor bowling performance from Elam and within his first over, Clovey dropped another catch. However the next ball turned under the bat to hit Townsend in line and Coddo Crusaders CC went to 160-7. But there were more dropped catches to come when Foy was dropped – again of Willis’ bowling) but Willis knocked Hulberts off stump out the ground with a slower ball. Willis then continued his demolition of the tail with two wickets to end the innings. 171 all out, Willis ends with figures of 14-6-17-4, spectacular bowling.

49 overs to ball Coddo Crusaders all out, was it possible? With Willis on the form he is, would anyone doubt it? Fettis and Buffong thought so as tried to bat out the day. Again with the opening bowlers Dino and Willis. They managed to over 19 when they decided it was time for a change, Manavendra Shill was the new bowler. The leg spinner however looked poor as Fettis hit him to cow corner for six in his first over.

But Shill with his second over broke the partnership as Fettis chipped the ball to Felsinger and had to walk. 27.3 overs, 9 wickets, anyone fancy it? Graham Kampa was then brought on as LUMs looked for 9 wickets. Three overs later and Kampa sends Buffong back to the pavilion with a slower ball that takes his off stump. Shill looked close to striking again with a big LBW appeal that was turned down. Hawkeye showed to be clipping leg stump.

LUMs then struck again with a very weird dismissal as Hatfield struck the ball into Clovey at silly mid on and then the ball cannoned into the wickets with Hatfield out of his crease! But unfortunately Challinor and Iwuajoku started to bat out as they both looked in good form but six overs later Kampa bowled the ball of his career. The ball pitched well outside leg stump, Iwuajoku left it but the ball swung ridiculously and took leg stump, incredible! 6 wickets needed to win, 16 overs. With 12th overs remaining the stage was set, Joele was brought on needing to bowl miraculously.

Leeds United Mums were motivated by the way Coddo Crusaders’ tail had performed in the first innings they believed if they could get two quick wickets then the game was theirs. Kampa had a big shout for LBW turned down and also probably got a match fine for it. The umpire decided the ball was missing off and Kampa seemed to say it was scaring the hell out of middle though. Leeds United Mums were having no luck. Kampa and Joele continued to bowl but with no luck. 6 overs, six wickets. Impossible?

Maybe not! Joele gets a dubious caught behind descion given out after a good catch from Downey, replays showed it only hit Challinors pad, but he had to walk. Maybe the luck has change, 5 overs, 5 wickets needed. One wicket and Coddo Crusaders’ poor tail comes into bat. However with Kampa failing to take wickets emergency bowling was brought on, Willis? Dino? Shill? No, Timothy Elam. Make yourself a hero time. However he was hit for two fours in his first over with no hope of a wicket. Joele was still needed to pull off something spectacular but he’s only human and he couldn’t manage a breakthrough.

Coddo Crusaders continued to bat with five wickets remaining and the days play was over. Coddo Crusaders have snatched a draw they should have never got. Poor captaincy from Felsinger with his bowlers and his declaration target, very odd considering Felsingers usual immaculate captaincy. However that was the end of LUMs first class winning streak but even with a draw, promotion should still be easily achieved.

Interview in the presentation after the match Felsinger apologized for his “poor captaincy” and said “that maybe soon it will be time to give way to give a younger player the captaincy” But William Rose played that down by saying “Felsinger leads the club at the moment and I hope for many years to come” Louis Dudfield was rightly awarded man of the match for his triple hundred. LUMs seam bowling and top order batting was heavily praised after the match.
