Priyanka Scores Century on Debut as Hedger's Team cruise to victory

Oldroyd won the toss for Hedger's Team and for some reason elected to bowl on a flat pitch. A pretty big crowd turned up with 3,564 people in total, the second highest crowd ever for a Youth match at Hedger's Team CG. So 3 Shredded Wheat was batting first with Surendra and Partha at the crease. The opening pair made a partnership of 41 before Surendra lofted it back down the ground to Desmazeures at long on and Pyke had his first wicket of the match. Partha was slogging everything as he hit his third six of the match and scored 17 runs off a Fitzpatrick over which 2 of them sixes were hit. Dhadda being dropped on 21 didn't end up being costly as Hele got the wicket of him 3 over's later for 23. Partha was finally dismissed for 57 as he edged behind to Oldroyd to the bowling of Desmazeures. Sajal didn't last long being dismissed for 1 as Hele got his second wicket in his last ball of his full 8 over's. 3 Shredded Wheat couldn't lift the run rate finishing their 40 over's with 198/8, a pretty average total. Desmazeures was pick of the bowlers with 3/39. Ellis only managed to make 20 before getting out to Sanigepalli. Priyanka on debut got to his 50 off 45 balls including 2 sixes. The hundred partnership was brought up off 85 balls and Hedger's Team were cruising. Khaleel brought up his 50 to take the required run rate below 2.5. Khaleel and Priyanka kept going to finish with 9 wickets in hand and still 10.3 overs remaining. Priyanka scored his 100th run on the last ball of the game to score a 94 ball century on debut. Khaleel finished on 68*.

MVP Points Standings: Kalhana Priyanka (3 points) [100* off 94], Peter Desmazeures (2) [3/39 off 8], Bilal Khaleel (1) [68* off 68]

Other than the huge Youth match win, Hedger's Team also pulled off an unconvincing 44 run win in their T20 match against Delco-Remy Dragons. Hedger's Team only managed to make 140/8 from their 20 over's, Taafe top scoring with 37. The bowling performance was a lot better bowling Delco-Remy Dragons out for 96. Black made a reasonable score of 39 opening the batting before getting out LBW to Naeem. Naeem finished with figures of 3/15. Black bowled well taking 2/9 from 3 over's and Fiebig bowled well also with 2/8. Tindall also bowled alright but was expensive with 2/27 from 3 over's.

MVP Points Standings: Farrukh Naeem (3 points) [3/15 off 4], James Fiebig (2) [23 off 18 and 2/8 off 2], Gregory Goode (1) [2/19 from 4 over's]

Western Wanderers build good total

Dumaresq called Tails and it landed on heads. Makwana said, "Nice sunny day here. We will have a bat first". Dumaresq then said, "We would have had a bowl first anyway. A nice green pitch. Yes it's sunny but I think the seam bowlers will be able to make use of this pitch early on".

Aniel Kumble and Gautam Gambhir opened the batting for the Western Wanderers. Kwistel conceded 4 off the first over. The captain decided to bowl himself from the other end and was hit for 4 off his third delivery. Once Kumble got back on strike though, a short ball got Kumble trying to fend it off but edged it to Oldroyd who took a great catch over his head. Kwistel bowled another tight over only conceding 3 off it. Gambhir was trying to score some runs while Sehwag struggled with only 1 run off 5 balls. The fifth over saw Tindall brought on. First ball moved a lot for him and Gambhir tried to drive but caught the edge for Oldroyd to take his second catch. Yuvvraaj Singh and Virendera Sehwag. Kwistel continued to go into his third over and had 0/14 off 3 over's. Singh hit consecutive 2's but was dismissed by a flighted ball from Tindall going right through the gate and Singh out for 14. Yogesh went first ball getting a thick edge to Oldroyd who was having a good day behind the stumps. Kwistel conceded 4 off his last over and finished with 0/18 from 4 over's. Tindall was on a hattrick but was taken off. Black was brought on instead and only conceded 4 off his first over. After 10 over's, Western Wanderers were 50/4 with Sreevijayan and Sehwag going along slowly. Sehwag and Sreevijayan collided in the 12th over and Oldroyd through the stumps down and Sehwag was run out for 18. Sangakkara came to the crease and Western Wanderers needed a good total. He did that flying to 18 off 11 balls. Tindall was brought back on in the 17th over with the score 102/5. The hattrick ball was played out for a single but it was nearly run out, the third umpire ruling it not out. The third ball was hit for 4 by Sangakkara. Then he hit the next one for a six over long on. His second six of the game. Then he hit another 4 and it ended up being 20 runs off the over. Sreevijayan was dropped in the 18th by Hele off the bowling of Tindall and it could have been Tindall's fourth wicket. Western Wanderers finished with a final score of 161/5, which could have been as low as 110 when they were 50/4. Sangakkara scored 48* off 25 and Sreevijayan scored 57* off 39 balls. Tindall was the best bowler with 3/39 from 4 over's. Dumaresq was right when he said they could get some wickets early on but too bad they couldn't do that later on.

Hedger's Team Collapse

After Sangakkara's and Sreevijayan's good innings at the end of Western Wanderers first innings, Hedger's Team needed an above par score of 162 to win. Olroyd was given the chance to open the batting but Makwana got him caught and bowled for a 4 ball duck. Byrne came to the crease but didn't last long going to RP Singh for 2. Makwana continued and got Clay out for 5 and it was 13/3 after 3 over's. Yuvvraaj Singh then took the catch to dismiss Taafe for 5 and it was very bad for Hedger's Team. Singh took the wickets of Miller and Hele and had figures of 4/11 after 3 over's. Makwana took his third wicket when Naeem was dismissed. The Western Wanderer's captain finishing with figures of 3/10 from 4 over's. Singh got his fifth wicket on his last ball to dismiss Hedger's Team last known batsman, Dumaresq and finishing with 5/17. Kwistel and Black lasted 13 balls before Virasana got the wickets of Kwistel and then Tindall in successive deliveries. Hedger's Team finished 33 all out, 128 runs short of the Western Wanderer's total of 161. They will need to train harder for their upcoming OD series against the Western Wanderers. Only Dumaresq managed to score more than 5 runs as well for Hedger's Team.

MVP Points Standings: Rudra Pratap Singh (3 points) [5/17 from 4 over's and 1 catches], Shakti Makwana (2) [3/10 from 4 over's and 3 catches], Kumar Sangakkara (1) [48* off 25 and 1 catch]

3 catches of Makwana and RP Singh no catch.... It's Yuvvraaj Singh's catch... :D

Western Wanderers win in Youth Match

Preview: It was a nice sunny day, and the pitch looked very flat. The team that won the toss would have to bat first, you would think. It should be a close match. Maybe Hedger's Team might have a small advantage playing at home but it should be very close. 250 would be a very good score on this pitch.

Western Wanderers win the toss and elect to bat.

Lineups:

Hedger's Team
1. Kalhana Priyanka
2. Murray Oldroyd (wk/c)
3. Bilal Khaleel
4. Gavin Hele
5. Donald Ellis
6. Cosmas Chinamasa
7. George Walker
8. Joshua Boyle
9. Sean Pyke
10. George Fitzpatrick
11. Peter Desmazeures

Western Wanderers

1. Michael Sutherland
2. Avinasa Mayuri
3. Andrew Dugan (wk)
4. Todd Logan
5. Aidan O'Leary
6. Jayakrishna Sohal
7. Kai Eaton
8. Enamul Huq
9. Owen Casey
10. Alok Abedin
11. Remco van der Sloot (c)

1st Innings: Michael Sutherland and Avinasa Mayuri went out to bat. Chinamasa took the new ball. 3 runs came off the first over. Hele took the new ball from the other end and conceded 2 runs. Bad running from Mayuri and some great fielding from Pyke at square leg and a direct hit left Mayuri well short of his ground, out for 4. Western Wanderers battled on solidly and after 8 over's, they were 45/1, Dugan on 23* and Sutherland on 16*. Dugan and Sutherland reached 50 but Sutherland was ran out by Hele for 61. Dugan went 2 over's later, caught behind off Desmazeures for 64. Ellis got a wicket soon after, O'Leary caught by Hele for 3. A third run out came when Logan was ran out by Priyanka for 20. Eaton and Sohal got the team back together and Khaleel ran Eaton out for 46. Pyke got his first wicket, and Huq was dismissed for 8. Western Wanderers finished with 273/7 from their 40 over's but could have more if the batsman ran better between the wickets and it helped that Hedger's Team were great in the field.

2nd Innings: Chasing a high total of 274, it was always going to be hard. Priyanka who scored a century on debut 2 weeks before was dismissed by Van Der Sloot, the captain for 7. Khaleel and Oldroyd got the team to 50 before Khaleel got caught at short midwicket by Logan off the bowling of Huq. Oldroyd and Hele kept on going but Hele went for 23 at a run a ball. At drinks, it was 112/3, the required run rate rising above 8 an over. Ellis went 2 balls after drinks to Van Der Sloot. Oldroyd at last got out for 68, stumped by Dugan off the bowling of Eaton. Walker didn't last long, getting out for 1. Chinamasa and Boyle didn't think it was over though, despite the RRR being around 20 an over, scoring 36 runs in 2 over's in over's 37 and 38. Chinamasa was run out though for 69 off 60 and that was game over, only scoring 5 off the 39th over meaning 42 runs off the last over. Boyle scored 11 runs off the last over to get a half century and finished with 55* off 42 balls. Western Wanderers won by 30 runs in the head, Joshua Boyle earning man of the match.

Post Match: Joshua Boyle was named man of the match for his quickly made half century which nearly gave Hedger's Team a very unlikely victory after the position they were before he came to the crease. Dugan was unlucky to miss man of the match, finishing with 2 MVP points. He scored 64 runs off 57 balls as well as taking a stumping and only let through 2 byes. Chinamasa grabbed the final MVP point with his 69 runs off 60 deliveries. It was a good match though and Western Wanderers came away with a deserved victory. Now the team's have time to prepare for the OD Series.

Youth Recruit

We sent the scout to check out an area in New Zealand. I told him to get a seam bowler, preferably a fast medium bowler. He got a seam bowler but could only find a Right arm Medium bowler who was good enough. He was offered a 2 year Youth contract which he accepted at $1020 a week. The scout said he was an average bowler for the team with poor power and fielding but could captain a side if needed.

3 Centuries Scored as Hedger's Team Dominate

It was a dry pitch and a sunny day where it was nearly a full house, 7095 supporters turning up. Alaiarpur won the toss and elected to bowl despite it being a nice pitch to bat on first. It would always be tough for the away side, taking on the top team who were undefeated in OD this season. Miller and Fiebig put on a 50 run partnership before Miller was dismissed, LBW to Ramasubraman for 26. Fiebig brought up his fifty but ran out Byrne, Hedger's Team's best batsman for 25 off 22 and it was 110/2. Feibig brought up his third OD century in fashion, hitting the ball back over Sivaramakrishnan's head for a massive 6. Lane was run out for 26 after drinks. The big wicket came though when Fiebig went LBW to Ramasubraman for 114 and it was 202/4 after 27.2 over's. Butler and Tribe put on a 200 run partnership, both scoring unbeaten centuries to put up a total of 408/4. Tribe and Butler went on a slog in the end scoring 125 runs @ 12.5 an over over the last 10 over's. There were 10 sixes scored in the innings, Butler the only player to hit two 6's.

There would have been the tiniest chance that Alaiarpur would chase down this massive total. It didn't start well though for Hedger's Team as Tindall dropped Mahanthapa in the third ball. Kwistel got the first wicket though in the next over when Padmasola was caught behind. Kwistel took another wicket as Alaiarpur were already 10/2. Black got his first wicket in the fifth over and it was pretty much over for Alaiarpur. Black took another wicket soon after and Alaiarpur were 18/4. It didn't look good at 20/5 as Kwistel took his third wicket. Vyapari and Pothireddy managed to survive a few over's before Naeem finally got the breakthrough, Pothireddy bowled comprehensively. The 7th wicket fell and Naeem had his second. Tindall got his first wicket at the start of his third over when Ponnada came dancing down the wicket and Tribe had no mistake taking the bails off in time. Tindall took his second and Alaiarpur had only 1 wicket in hand. Vivatma went 2 balls later though to Tindall, getting out LBW for a duck. Alaiarpur finished 47 all out and a dominate performance from Hedger's Team.

MVP Points Standings: Dion Tribe (3 points), Rene Butler (2), James Fiebig (1)

Wow.... Strong batting and superb bowling in Senior squad... Waiting to check sharpness of my team...

My batting is crap except against bots. I lack in power and I don't have anyone with Expert batting.

Hedger's Team v Western Wanderers 1st OD Match Preview

Conditions: Hedger's Team CG will be the venue for the first OD match. The groundsmen have prepared a green pitch. The seam bowlers will be wanting to get some wickets in the first match. It looks like it will also be pretty windy for tomorrows game, which will also help the swing bowlers.

Probable XI: Stephen Byrne, James Fiebig, Jack Lane, Jake Miller, Rene Butler, Dion Tribe (wk), David Dumaresq (c), Gilbert Black, Farrukh Naeem, Fred Tindall, Bob Kwistel

Team News: With Dion Tribe back from injury, he will most probably play in tomorrows match, with a century on Friday helping his cause. This means Oldroyd will miss out even after his well made half century in his teams loss in the Youth league. Fiebig, who rested the first match will most probably play after his 88 ball, 114. Butler might also move up the order after his century but he still is happy to bat down the order. There should be no changes in the bowling department, who absolutely broke through the Alaiarpur batting line up on Friday. Dumaresq did not bowl in that match but dropping the captain might not do any good so he will stay in the side, already stated by Hedger.

Prediction: The Hedger's Team batting lineup isn't the strongest, as shown when they were bowled out cheaply in the T20 match last week. Shakti Makwana, the Western Wanderers captain will be someone to watch in this match. Western Wanderers should be able to win this match and go on to win the series, I should think but anything can happen.

Hedger commented on the upcoming match.
I know it will be tough to win but we're coming off a huge win against Alaiarpur which will boost the teams confidence. A win would be a great result but I'll accept a loss if the players play at their best and put in 110%.

There's lots of funny names in FTP. But they are better than BT... :clap
