We lost the toss but they decided to bat first, while we would have chosen to bowl first anyway so it didn't really matter. We got off to a great start as Oosting broke through with the 2 early wickets of Modi and Jirongo in his second over in consecutive balls. Gama Pinto and Kibaki fought back though as they put on a 64 run partnership before Halbertsma took the wicket of Kibaki. Gama Pinto and Awaori fell shortly after to Kouters and Oosting respectively as Oosting went on to finish his spell with figures of 3/26. Vio added some crucial runs to Kenya's total before he was run out by Kouters and Elijzen bowled a good last spell while Ligthart was a bit expensive as we restricted them to 192/8 from their 50 overs, Kouters taking 1/29, Elijzen with 1/33 and Halbertsma taking 1/36 while Ligthart went at nearly 6 runs per over.
Fangman and Aduard got us off to a good start with the bat with a 50 run opening partnership before Aduard fell for 28. Kos soon followed for only 4 before Bergkamp partnered Fangman and brought the game back in our favour before both fell around the same time for 35 and 37 respectively. The game was going to be really close and Engelbert was soon back in the pavilion for only 9 and it was 5/123. Broers and Elijzen tried to keep their cool and built a solid partnership but Jirongo struck again for his 4th wicket with the wicket of Broers for 29. Elijzen and Halbertsma put on a small partnership before Halbertsma was dismissed for 7 and Elijzen followed for 24 with the score at 8/181. Ligthart and Oosting kept their cool though and scored the runs with 4.1 overs to spare as we won by 2 wickets. Now after 2 games, we were the only team to have won both games.
Result: Netherlands U19 won by 2 wickets Toss: Kenya U19 won the toss and elected to bat. Man of the match: Abiola Jirongo (3 points), Rik Oosting (2), Fadhili Rubia (1)
Match Comments
It wasn't the neatest win but we did the job. Great bowling effort from all our bowlers to keep them below 200 and the batsman just did enough. No real stand outs with the bat with Fangman, Bergkamp, Aduard and Broers all scoring around 30 runs each which was good enough to win us the match.

This was our biggest match so far as we looked for a third win to get closer to that championship. Fatigue was the main issue in selecting our lineup and so the rotation policy continued, with Abendanon, Buurman, Bal, Thiessens and Cohen coming back in. We won the toss and sent India into bat on the green surface and the decision proved to be the right one as Oosting and Ligthart kept it tight in the first 10 while Ligthart took the wicket of Tamhane. Cohen them struck twice in the next 5 overs as India fell to 3/50 after 15 overs. Vishwa and Hament tried to revive the innings but the bowlers kept it really tight before Elijzen got his deserved wickets as he dismissed Vishwa and Hament in successive overs for 37 and 39 respectively before taking the wicket of the skipper, Shalabh to cap off a great bowling performance of 3/39 while Cohen finished with excellent figures also of 3/26. Ligthart and Oosting came on for the final 10 overs and although we did leak a few runs during that period, we restricted them to 9/187 after a 19 run unbeaten last wicket partnership as Ligthart took 2/40 and Oosting 1/32. It wouldn't be an easy chase but one which we would fancy our chances.
It wasn't the start we wanted though as Frederik and Buurman got themselves out in the first 10 overs. Kos tried to keep the innings together as he batted well while losing partners at regular intervals, Bal for 13 and Abendanon for 15 as we fell to 4/95. Engelbert then had the massive responsibility as skipper to lead the side to victory and built what looked like a match winning partnership with Kos of 78 runs before Engelbert was trapped in front by Ghorpade for 26. With only 15 runs to win, it seemed like the result was settled and Elijzen made sure of that as he hit 9* off 11 balls as we won by 5 wickets, Kos finishing 84 not out off 134 balls, an excellent innings as we won with 7.5 overs to spare. Kos's great performance earnt him the MOTM award with Cohen and Elijzen following closely behind with great bowling performances. A great win as we go closer to taking the championship.

Match Comments:
Couldn't have asked for a better bowling performance as they delivered the goods restricting them to only 187. Batting was a little disappointing apart from Kos with no batsman managing to pass 30, however there were no real failures apart from Frederik who only scored 3. With matches against Zimbabwe and Australia coming up, it's not settled just yet but a win against Zimbabwe would probably seal the championship.

Match Overview:
It was a huge match for us with a win here pretty much meaning the championship win. They won the toss and elected to bat and we were on top at the start as we took 3 wickets in the opening 10 overs thanks to Cohen and Korthals but Mupariwa and Ling turned the innings around with close to a 200 run partnership before Texel finally struck with both wickets, Mupariwa for 101 and Ling for 96 before Banda and de Stadler finished the innings off strongly with 35 runs in the final 3 overs as they scored 286/5 from their 50 overs, leaving us a huge task to take the victory.
Things started well as Buurman smashed 2 fours and a six in the opening 4 overs but he was bowled by Kavanagh for 22. Aduard and Bergkamp then continued onwards in a good partnership before Aduard followed for 36. It was always going to be an uphill task and we continued to fall behind the required run rate as we tried to chase down the massive target. Bergkamp was in top form as he kept the innings together forming partnerships with Bal and Broers as we fought back to 192/4 and it was time for Bergkamp to up the run rate before he lost another partner in Fangman. Bergkamp brought up his deserved century and it looked like we still had a chance but he was trapped in front by Kavanagh for 106 which sparked the lower order collapse as we lost our bottom 4 for only 4 runs between them as Korthals finished 13* while we fell well short of our target, bowled out for 242. It would now all come down to the final match against Australia, tied on points with one loss each.
Result: Zimbabwe U19 won by 44 runs Toss: Zimbabwe U19 won the toss and elected to bat. Man of the match: Hamilton Mupariwa (3 points), Dennis Bergkamp (2), Edwin de Stadler (1)
Match Comments:
It wasn't the best bowling performance even after the great start we had with only Halbertsma and Kouters going less than 5 runs per over. It was always going to be very difficult to win the game, chasing 286 and although Bergkamp shined with 106, nobody else really went on to make a big score and really give us a shot at winning it, with the next highest score Aduard with 36. It all comes down to our final match with Australia to see who wins the league.

Match Overview:
So it all came down to this and we needed to make some tough decisions about the lineup. Bergkamp was originally left out but I argued for his spot and was put into the lineup in place of Bal. It was still going to be really tough against the Aussies in what was really a final with the winner taking the title.
We won the toss, thankfully and sent Australia into bat. Martyn and Watson started off reasonably well before Oosting broke that small partnership, Martyn giving him a simple return catch off the leading edge for 12. Oosting finished that spell strongly to have 1/12 off 5 overs. Texel and Thiessens continued things for us as they took another 2 wickets in the next 10 over period as they were 75/3 after 20 overs, as we looked just on top at this stage. Cottam and Pratten consolidated and just as they were looking fully settled, Thiessens struck again in his final over to get rid of Pratten for 24 to finish with figures of 2/35. Herring came in and took a liking to Cohen as he hit 3 boundaries in 2 overs off him but Cohen got his revenge with a nicely directed bouncer as Herring could only pop it up for Buurman at square leg. Cohen then went on to take another 2 wickets in his next over, including the wicket of Cottam, after he fell back onto his stumps for 51, as Cohen finished with excellent figures of 3/37, finishing things off with a maiden. Ryan tried to give Australia some late runs and did so, but lost all his partners in the process as he finished 34* off 27, the total 195 all out, Oosting finishing with 2/27 and Texel's 2 tailend wickets making his figures look far more respectable at 3/54.
Chasing 195 on an uneven pitch, it wasn't going to be easy but we still fancied our chances. Buurman and Aduard started well though before Buurman gave Knight a tough return catch for 15. Aduard and Kos put on a 50 run partnership to put us well on top but Watson struck in his first over as Aduard was caught at fine leg for 38. Engelbert's poor series continued as he was dismissed for 6 and we were going into drinks at 108/3, although still on top. Abendanon started off promisingly with 2 boundaries but he too was back in the pavilion shortly after for 12 as he became Herring's second victim. Things got worse though as Kos soon got out to Watson for 43. It was now up to Bergkamp and Thiessens to do the job. Bergkamp looked to score all the runs while Thiessens hanged around for a little while, scoring 8 off 19 but Brett Lee got a bit of reverse swing going and Thiessens only managed to edge through to Ryan. Bergkamp didn't seem like he was going to stop though and quickly brought up within 10 runs of victory. He then hit a boundary to bring us within 3 before he was unfortunately bowled by Knight for 44, but had justified his selection with that match winning knock. Korthal then scored the winning run as we won by 3 wickets with still 6 overs remaining and we had retained the title. It was a great feeling to win that.
Result: Netherlands U19 won by 3 wickets Toss: Netherlands U19 won the toss and elected to bowl. Man of the match: Shaine Watson (3 points), John Ryan (2), Jan Cohen (1)
Match Comments:
A great win! Couldn't believe it. A stunning bowling performance from really everyone and we did well to get the runs on an uneven pitch, mainly thanks to Bergkamp and Kos and I'm glad that Bergkamp's selection ended up being a match winning decision after having argued for his spot in the starting XI. So we've retained our title, and my first One Day series as part of the Netherlands management has been a real success and I hope we can now go all the way in the World Cup after being top seeds for that. Stats wise, Bergkamp was really the man of the tournament, with 265 runs @ 66.25, the only player to score over 200 runs, while Aduard also made the top 10 in run scorers with 148 runs. Jan Cohen also topped the bowling charts with 13 wickets @ 12.15, 4 best than the next best, Kirkwood from Zimbabwe. Rik Oosting was also in the top 10 bowlers with 6 wickets @ 14.17. But a great all-round performance from the team. Now we have to look forward to the World Cup where we will hope to take our first U-19 World Cup title, and become the second minor country after Scotland to do so.
It should have been an easy win against Cunning so we fielded a youth orientated lineup. Batting first, Murch smashed 91 off 53 while Young made 47 off 28 and O'Leary finished with 32* off 20 as we made 208/5 and our decision to play a full youth bowling attack with Moxly, our all-rounder the only senior, nearly backfired as they made 201/5 in return. Bollinger bowled well with 0/19 off 4 overs as he shows he is going to be a real star while Lansing took 2/44 as he looks to be developing into a legendary fast bowler.
8th June - Youth 4.6 - Hedger's Team v surgeon XI
I forgot to set my lineup for this game but there was no harm done as Bollinger took 4/40 with Healy supporting with 2/35 as they made 215/9 on a great pitch for batting, before Young put the game away with a stunning 74* off 58 balls, while Bleeker and Omara both made 47 and Mol 26* at the end as we now have pretty much sealed our title.
10th June - One Day 3.4 - Annan v Hedger's Team
Well this was the game we were looking forward to against the bottom placed team and the batsman had a day to remember on a flat pitch, as we made our highest ever senior total with 503/4, Murch scoring 143 off 88, O'Leary with 121 off 66 and Craig Crane again showed what a player he was as he smashed his first century with 115 off 64, before being unfortunately run out. Bollinger playing in all matches of the week showed that hit fitness wasn't an issue as he took a hattrick on his way to career best one day figures of 4/11 as he prepares for NAT U19 cricket next season for Australia. Bol, skippering the side for the first time ever in the absence of Whiteman, Baldry and Young did a good job with the ball as well, taking 3/18 off 5 overs, while Phillips also took 2 wickets.
Manager Comments:
A great week for us, winning every game, although it was a pretty easy week apart from our youth game. Bollinger really starred in all 3 matches, with some tight bowling in the T20 before taking 8 wickets in the youth and one day matches. I was very pleased to see Crane score his first career century, while it was only Murch's first One Day century to go with 5 T20 centuries. We also made one new transfer this week with the signing of Karl van der Schyff, a South African pace bowler who was a good cheap signing at only $11k for the promising 16 year old.
Against the top of the table side, we fielded a youth oriented lineup with O'Leary the only senior playing. Our bowlers were taken to as they scored 201/1, Yousif taking the only wicket. It was going to be very difficult to chase that total down and at 1/85, we still were in it but when Mol was dismissed for 28 and O'Leary for 59 shortly after, we then collapsed as Omara couldn't find any support as the bottom 7 batsman only scored 9 runs between them, as Omara finished 17*, and we were bowled out for 119, losing by 82 runs. Wasn't what we wanted but we weren't expecting to win at all.
15th June - Youth 4.6 - Fierce Falcons v Hedger's Team
This game was going to be a walkover against the Fierce Falcons who were around the bottom of the ladder. Things didn't start well though as we fell to 2/14 within 5 overs before Young and Omara worked us back into it with a 62 run partnership before Young got out for 24. Mol joined Omara at the crease and was looking good, while Omara was next to go for 55. Mol continued to shine though, as did van der Hoeven as Mol scored his first ever youth century with 103 off 61, a huge confidence booster, now passing 1000 runs and van der Hoeven also scored his maiden century as he hammered 117* off only 70 balls and Harms played a cameo at the end with 36* off 15 to get us up to 355/5. The target was always going to be too much for them and Bollinger and Healy made sure of it, as they ripped through the batting lineup to bowl them out in only 8 overs, as they were bowled out for 13, Healy with 6/7 and Bollinger with 4/6. That also makes Healy the second highest youth wicket taker with 61 wickets, behind Whiteman with 62 so there is no doubt he will pass him, but how many will he take?
17th June - One Day 3.4 - Hedger's Team v Elephant Fresh
It was never going to be easy this season in the One Day format but the batsman gave it their all as we ended up scoring 272 in a great all-round effort. O'Leary top scored with 46 after the top order all scored runs, Murch with 32, Crane 38 and Pettinger scoring 24 before Omara and Oldroyd added a few more runs but it was Yousif and Whiteman who really shone, as both made their highest scores, Yousif hitting 36 off 39 while Whiteman smashed 42 off 33 deliveries. The bowling performance was nowhere near as good as they got the runs with 7 wickets in hand and with just under 10 overs to spare. Phillips took 2/78 from his 10 overs but other than that, only Lansing and Whiteman bowled reasonably well, Lansing taking 1/38 off 5.4 overs on debut while Whiteman bowled out his 10 overs for 0/49.
Manager Comments:
Well a decent week, comprehensively winning our youth game while putting up a good fight in the other 2 matches. Oldroyd also now ties the club record for number of OD games, with 90 games, Stephen Byrne the other player with that many games. O'Leary is also close with 88 games and also needs only one more T20 match to also tie Stephen Byrne's 82 T20 matches. His 49 in the One Day match also brings up his 3000th career OD run, becoming only the second player to do so, again behind Stephen Byrne and is only 26 runs short of 2500 T20 runs.
18 year old Canadian batsman has been called up for the Canadian U19 National squad after Canada were knocked out of the World Cup, not progressing past the group stage, after suffering a 149 flogging at the hands of Netherlands, the team which Omara's manager is the assistant manager of, although despite finishing top in their group, they went out in the first knockout round, after going down to Sri Lanka in a nailbiting game. With the new season hosting the first club match tomorrow, it was going to be a great season with Hedger's Team promoted to Division 3, although were relegated in One Day division 3 but their youth orientated team should have no problem in competing in Div 3, with only NAT callups seeming like they could not compete with Frank Bollinger, Ruben Mol and Aladdin Yousif all competing for International selection for their respective nations.
We started off the T20 season well with a 200 run thrashing of our lowly opposition. Murch and Pettinger were great with the bat scoring 75 off 40 and 82 off 36 respectively before O'Leary made 50* off 20 and Omara made 37* off 20 balls as we scored 255/3, before Whiteman starred with the ball taking 4/7 from his 4 overs while Fitzgerald and Healy took 2 wickets each and Lansing and Yousif taking 1 a piece. Murch also passed the 1500 run mark in his T20 career.
Result: Hedger's Team won by 202 runs Toss: Hedger's Team won the toss and elected to bat. Man of the match: Andrew Whiteman (3 points), James Pettinger (2), Joseph Murch (1)
13th July - BBCC v Hedger's Team
It wasn't the toughest match first up in our youth campaign but it wasn't going to be a walk in the park either and our bowling performance showed that as they made a decent 176/9 from their 40 overs on a dry pitch, as Prasanta showed his promise with an outstanding spell of bowling taking 4/34, while Yousif took 2/37, Bol 1/22 while our 2 opening bowlers were the more disappointing of the bowlers although Healy kept it tight with 0/28 from his 8 overs while Bollinger took 1/47 from his 8. After losing Mol early in the batting chase, Young joined Bleeker at the crease and they never looked back putting on a 133 run partnership before Bleeker was finally dismissed for 86 off 112 but it was all too late for them as we scored the last 16 runs with ease, the skipper Michael Young finishing 72* at a rate of a run a ball, earning him the MOTM award. The knock also makes him the clubs 3rd highest youth run scorer of all-time pushing ahead of Kalhana Priyanka and now only Basil Sleiman and Mahboob Farhat stand in his way of topping the list and he only needs another 186 runs this season to become the highest youth run scorer. He also becomes the most capped youth player for the club with 43 youth appearances, going ahead of Whiteman's 42.
Result: Hedger's Team won by 8 wickets Toss: Hedger's Team won the toss and elected to bowl. Man of the match: Michael Young (3 points), Bhalandana Prasanta (2), Niek Bleeker (1)
15th July - Hedger's Team v Gremlins CC
We couldn't make it 3 wins in 3 by winning our One Day match and much came down to our poor batting with only Murch getting any decent runs, scoring 67 off 125 while our next highest score was 22 by the keeper, Murray Oldroyd, as we were bowled out for 170. Frank Bollinger struck with his first ball and maybe we thought an upset was on the cards but they put on the runs, Whiteman striking in the 16th over but that was it as they scored the runs in 28.4 overs, winning by 8 wickets. None of our bowlers really did well, Whiteman taking 1/54 off 9, Baldry 0/24 off 5 and Bollinger 1/33 off 5 the best of the bowlers.
Result: Gremlins CC won by 8 wickets Toss: Gremlins CC won the toss and elected to bowl. Man of the match: Brody Beattie (3 points), Kevin Griffith (2), Tyler Fillmore (1)
19th July - Hedger's Team v Cunning - Twenty20 4.2
We continued our T20 campaign with another comprehensive victory. We would have felt in trouble though when they managed 176/5 from their 20 overs and our bowlers really didn't do that well, but we did go with a youth heavy bowling attack. Healy and Whiteman were the only decent bowlers taking 1/27 and 1/25 respectively from their 4 overs, but we should have done a lot better. The batting was strong though and chased down the total with relative easy, Murch leading the way with 86 off 37 while our other opener, Craig Crane made 22 off 13 before Pettinger smashed 46* off 25 and O'Leary played a late cameo with 25* off 9 as we chased down the total in 13.4 overs with 8 wickets to spare.
Result: Hedger's Team won by 8 wickets Toss: Cunning won the toss and elected to bat. Man of the match: Joseph Murch (3 points), Luke Hart (2), James Pettinger (1)
20th July - Jackson AllStars v Hedger's Team - Youth 3.1
Coming off a win in our opening youth game, we would be looking to make it 2 in 2 and our opponents were much like our first opponents and we would still need to do well to take the victory. Our 4th and 5th bowling options did let us down a lot conceding 93 runs from their 16 combined overs, as they managed 191/7 from their full 40 overs. Bollinger and Healy were impressive though both taking 2/36. Bol was also very economical bowling 0/19 from 8 overs. Bleeker started off strongly with the bat but did lose Mol for 23 and Young for 4 early on but Bleeker and Omara showed their skills with a dominant batting performance, with a 118 run partnership, Omara getting out for 51 late in the innings but Crane finished it off with 12* off 9 while Bleeker finished on 90* off 103 balls to take the MOTM award, also his highest youth score as we won by 7 wickets with 31 balls to spare. We would now face the other title challenger in our youth match next week which is a very important clash for both sides.
Result: Hedger's Team won by 7 wickets Toss: Hedger's Team won the toss and elected to bowl. Man of the match: Niek Bleeker (3 points), Raqib Mahmud (2), Oisin Ward (1)
22nd July - Western Warriors v Hedger's Team - One Day 4.2
After losing our opening One Day match, we would be looking for a response from the players in this match and that's exactly what they did with a comfortable 66 run victory. We made 240/9 batting first, Murch and Pettinger starting off well with a good opening partnership before Murch went for 24 and O'Keeffe pushed into the side failed, only making 4 and Pettinger followed a few overs later for 43. O'Leary, Mol and Oldroyd put in decent runs though to get the total up with 24, 33 and 35 respectively, O'Leary unlucky as he was run out when he was looking very good at the crease. Moxly and Bol couldn't do much but Bollinger and Phillips increased our total with some strong performances, with 24 and 22* respectively while Bollinger had shown his batting skills on the previous weekend when on his NAT U19 friendly debut, made 48* for Australia. The bowlers put in a great bowling performance though, leaving their batsman no chance as they were bowled out for 174. Baldry led the way with a great display of fast bowling taking 4/24 off 8 overs while Phillips and Bollinger were good opening the bowling taking 3/18 (7.4) and 2/37 (10) respectively and Mo Bol and Moxly did reasonably well with 0/49 and 1/41 from 10 overs respectively.
Result: Hedger's Team won by 66 runs Toss: Hedger's Team won the toss and elected to bat. Man of the match: Kasee Baldry (3 points), Graham Phillips (2), Frank Bollinger (1)
Other Comments:
In other news, Frank Bollinger played in his first International match playing for Australia U19 in their friendly defeat against Pakistan, and surprised everyone by pulling Australia out of deep trouble at 184/6 on a flat pitch, scoring 48* off 58 balls to get Australia to a reasonable total of 282/8, and was unlucky to miss out on his fifty. The batting effort would have tired him though and his bowling showed that as he was pretty disappointing but did take a wicket, with figures of 1/74 from his 10 overs. He will look to do better though in the near future. Meanwhile, Aladdin Yousif has been called up to the UAE U19 squad and Ruben Mol was selected in the Netherlands squad and will make his debut on the weekend against Zimbabwe, batting at #3. He'll be hoping for a good solid impact in his first game. Omara and Yousif would be looking for their first youth cap at international level on the weekend but it is unknown whether they will play. In transfer news, Hedger's Team have made their first signing of the season with the addition of Canadian 16 year old, Jayden Wright who is a promising all-rounder with a lot of potential and could prove to be a lot like Aladdin Yousif with all-round abilities and medium pace bowling. The $157,500 signing will be looking to prove his worth early in his career.
