Hedger's Team - Week 3 Update

26th July - Madhu v Hedger's Team - Twenty20 4.2

We went down in our T20 match in a close encounter, our inexperienced bowling attack letting us down as they made 210/5 with our only senior bowler, Andrew Whiteman bowling well with 2/30. All our other bowlers went at above 10 runs per over. Our batsman tried to get us over the line but the RRR was just too much for them and we finished 176/6, Pettinger scoring 55 off 47, Murch 38 off 25 and O'Leary was the best batsman, scoring 41 off 23 but he couldn't go on to score his fifty.

Result: Madhu won by 34 runs
Toss: Madhu won the toss and elected to bat.
Man of the match: Jeffrey Pickard (3 points), Andrew Whiteman (2), Richard Fitzgibbon (1)

27th July - Hedger's Team v Bangla Desh - Youth 3.1

I expected more of a challenge in the top of the table clash and thought that it might have been the case when Ruben Mol was dismissed for 2, but Michael Young and Niek Bleeker didn't look back, with a 223 run partnership, before Bleeker got out for 92, his highest youth score. Omara hit a nice quickfire innings at the end with 33 from 21 balls but it was the skipper, Young who was unbelievable scoring an unbeaten 146 off 124 balls, to pass the 1500, as well as the 1600 career run mark in Youth cricket, and becomes the club's second highest run scorer in that format, behind Mahboob Farhat with 1660 so he could well break that record next week, and will if he scores more than 36 runs. 299/4 was going to be an uphill task all the way for the opposition and our bowlers were right on the money as we bowled them out for 224, Yousif leading the way with 3/42 off 8 overs as he really looks to be developing as an outstanding all-rounder. Healy meanwhile took 3/53 and Bollinger took 2/44 while Bol and Prasanta kept it tight with figures of 1/80 between them from their 16 overs. Frank Bollinger now has 52 youth wickets for the club after bringing up the 50 wicket mark last week.

Result: Hedger's Team won by 75 runs
Toss: Bangla Desh won the toss and elected to bowl.
Man of the match: Michael Young (3 points), Aladdin Yousif (2), Niek Bleeker (1)

29th July - Hedger's Team v Vampyrs - One Day 4.2

The team we were playing were flying high but with their cup match on Sunday, they decided to play a second XI and Hedger's Team made full use of that, winning by 9 wickets. Vampyrs were bowled out for 119 in their batting innings, as Phillips took 3/26 and Whiteman took 3/31, Baldry also getting in on the wickets with figures of 2/18 but it was a great all-round bowling performance, Lansing also taking a wicket in his second career OD match after taking a wicket on debut and the 17 year old looks to have a really bright future in front of him. Phillips has also now reached 175 club OD wickets and still has a way to go if he is to reach the 200 wicket milestone by the end of his career, now 33 years of age. Pettinger led the way with the bat with an unbeaten 50 coming off 58 balls, while Murch was the only dismissed batsman, with 32 and Omara made 14* at the end of the innings. That is also Pettinger's 1000th run for the club in One Day cricket, becoming the 10th player to reach that mark, Murch also creeping up to the milestone with 931 runs. That was also Graham Phillips 90th OD match for the club, 4 matches behind Aidan O'Leary and Murray Oldroyd and tied with club legend, Stephen Byrne.

Result: Hedger's Team won by 9 wickets
Toss: Vampyrs won the toss and elected to bat.
Man of the match: James Pettinger (3 points), Graham Phillips (2), Andrew Whiteman (1)

Other Comments:

Hedger's Team also confirmed the mid-week signing of Canadian 16 year old, Michael Dysart for a fee of around $300,000. He is a very talented youngster and can both bat and bowl but Brendon Hedger has stated that he will be looking to train him as a bowler who is able to bat, despite only being able to bowl medium pace. However, he is a left armer who possesses an oustanding bouncer, much like Graham Phillips who will be looking to teach him to use his bowling talent to full potential. Piet de Jong is also a new recruitment for Hedger's Team, a tidy left arm spinner. He could replace Mo Bol next season, however they might be looking for an 18 year old spinner towards the end of the season rather than looking to de Jong who at the moment, does not seem ready for the responsibility of filling Mo Bol's spinning role.
