The Dominators made full use of the flat Trent Bridge track, with Herbert Sutcliffe recording his second century from as many matches, and skipper Keith Miller going absolutely ballistic with 82 off just 59 balls to propel them to a very good total of 322. Bob Appleyard could nevertheless hold his head high after a fine effort on arguably the worst ever pitch for bowlers in one-day cricket.

Denis Compton scored a valiant knock of 115 off just 103 balls to keep the contest alive after a poor start by the Wanderers. Then on came Test cricket's greatest ever bowler (statistically), and the rest was history along with the Wanderers themselves.

Can’t seem to assemble a winning combination for this team. Disappointing performances throughout the season.

Think you might wanna get Pollock in there, him being the scorer of a List-A double ton long before it became the norm.. Sure, his form has been somewhat poor so far but he’s only played like 3-4 games.

2013-01-DouglasJardine.jpg

The Hound Dogs' dire position at 71/7 only aided in bringing out the worst in their skipper Douglas Jardine, who stayed true to his reputation as a notoriously slow scorer by poking and plodding his way to a gruesome 29 off 115 balls. Their highest score came from Frank Tyson, who scored a valiant unbeaten 42 from No 9 in a total of 153.

Explanation on pitch types

:bwl::down: Damp/Sticky - Massively in favor of bowlers and an absolute nightmare to bat on, unless you're Victor Trumper.
:left::right: Dusty - Plenty of turn on offer for spinners and a good place to bat for spin-savvy batsmen. Good pace bowlers are still likely to thrive.
:ar::up: Evenly balanced - Provides an evenly balanced contest for all disciplines.
:bat::left: Flat - A batsman-friendly pitch which provides little or no assistance to bowlers. Expect big totals.
:bwl::up: Green - A lot of movement on offer early on, which makes it ideal for bowlers capable of swinging the ball. Batting expected to become easier as the match progresses.
:ar::left: Hard - Ideal conditions for batting. Good deal of bounce on offer for fast bowlers as well. Could go either way
:right::left: Dry/Slow - Ideal for slow and spin bowlers as the name suggests. Sometimes quite difficult to bat on.
:down: Poor - Uneven bounce and a huge amount of turn on offer for spinners. Expect a slow hard grind where most batsmen rarely score at above 3 an over.
