LG ICC Rankings Discussion

The ICC ODI rankings rates winning the world cup final same as any other ODi match which according to me is nuts!!! The rankings should give weightage to the series win, tournament wins and things like such.

How exactly would you ascertain any given series 'weighting'? What if a ODI tri-series was held between Australia, the second ranked nation, and Zimbabwe.... would you rank it high because it features the top two teams, or particulalry low because a victory by one of the teams would be an anomoly...

I agree that World Cup matches are far and away the most important ODI matches that take place, but would only the winner receive double points for the final, or would all matches be have greater 'weighting' (including matches against Holland, Canada etc.)

I think a series win (irrespective of the tournament) should get you some additional points. According to me it is harder to win the VB Series in Australia (for another team) than to win the World Cup itself.

If Zimbabwe wins a ODI series (3 match) for example then Zimbabwe woudl get lot of points. But is Australia wins a 3 match ODI series against Zim then they would not get much points. Its just like the ODI rankings right now, where a team gets more points for beating another team who is ranked high in the ranking table. ODI Series win should also be rated in similar way as individual matches. Its all about making the OCI rankings a little stable than a stock market like, as it is right now.

look at the first page on this thread for updated rankings .

Rankings updated although not yet taking account of the 4th test between England and Pakistan.
My question is how on earth does Jacques Kallis retain that no.1 all rounder spot despite his bowling having been useless for the past 3 or 4 years?

His way infront of everyone on the batting and the only man whose anywhere near him is Flintoff whom hasn't been playing as of late.

I never pay attention to the rankings, they're as bias as could ever be...Gilchrist is still at no.1 for ODI batsmen

I could easily think of 10 batsmen that are better then him, and that I would want on my team over him...

Well the rankings look at a lot of things that we may not consider. How well the player has played in the last two years, how has he played at home vs away, etc. Although I don't agree that he should still be ranked number 1, there are 14 batsmen within 100 points of him, so someone could easily replace him in the next few months.

EDIT: Apparently one of the other statistics considered in ODI rankings is strike rate, and Gilly's career SR is close to 97!

I must say these rankings are screwed, Alex Wharf is still on the ODI bowling rankings!

Then this just gets stupid.
