A cracking, record-breaking, couple of games this evening.
Firstly the 15th place final. The hilarious Lucky Lockdown Lunatics made a right pigs ears of things, in part thanks to two wickets from Cheteshwar Pujara, before Moeen and Mark Wood managed to get them to a total of 162 having been 69 for 5 at one point. Then the only team who could make a bigger pig's ear of things did just that. At 87/1 the Glasgow Grubbers were rocking and rolling all the way to 15th place. Moeen struck twice in his first over. Then, in just his second game of the tournament, Canadian all rounder Nitish Kumar came into the attack. By the time he was done they were 142/9 and staring down the barrel of an embarassing victory. Mark Wood pulled the trigger, dismissing Shannon Gabriel and leaving the Grubbers 10 runs short of the target. Kumar set a new bowling record of 6 for 25.
Lunatics take 15th place and Grubbers take 16th. Seriously, if these two teams are not even the worst two then the Wooden Spoon match should be a joy to behold.
Back to Pyongyang for the 5th place final. The Spartans were ticking along fairly well. Paul Stirling notched up another 50 and Shakib and Dhoni were batting well together again. Then came Jofra Archer in the 19th over with Spartans 175/4. A challenging total looked possible. 12 or 3 balls later (the 19th over done) they found themselves on 207/4. 32 runs from Archer's no ball packed over doing serious damage to the hopes of Blocktown. Blocktown were staying in touch without ever really threatening to over power things until Ed Pollock got going. Some brutal middle over hitting gave Blocktown a slim chance. However, when he was eventually out for 76 from 47, the batting from Dunk and Rasool didn't quite live up to it. 30 needed off the last over, Dunk gave the crowd something to cheer for with some dazzling hitting but it was to prove too little too late. They fell just 9 runs short in the end.
Blocktown Brotherhood have to settle for 6th place while Spartans take 5th. Both teams had a very good campaign and produce some very memorable cricket.
Tomorrow is the final day!
I'm not 100% sure of the start time. It may be one game in the morning then a break. But the final (the last match) will start at approximately 6pm UK.
