Making bowling more enjoyable, seeing weather/pitch effects etc. - invitation to playtest

Just weighing in on the career mode skill thing.
I've played all my careers starting with South Australia. I'd always edit the line ups to the most recent each time I started. Anyway, when Phil hughes was in the side, every single career he'd average over 100 for the season. in my last couple of careers I've replaced him with kelvin smith, and he never averages more than 20. Also a mate I have who plays, in his career mode, Phillip hughes also averages 100 or more.
So it's gotta matter to some point?

I can confirm that career mode does indeed ignore our changes to attributes I'm afraid. Couldn't sleep last night so set up a career and just as I had predicted the difference was clear to see within the first couple of overs. Played around 20 overs due to the fact I was actually batting well for once, then I set up a casual game between the same two teams and it was back to the improved gameplay experience. The difference was as clear as night and day.

Such a shame, but it did confirm just how much better the game is with the tweaked attributes. So unless Big Ant can or are even willing to give us the option of having career mode normalised or not in the next patch these changes will be of no use to those who prefer to play career mode.

It's so disappointing that the devs chose to do this for the sake of a poxy leaderboard.

So it will be tour and competition mode for me from now on and the seemingly endless quest to get the game playing to it's potential, I'm sure once I do the next version will be released. I'm a bit down on cricket anyhow atm so it's back to Fishsim2 for me for a bit.:lol

Yeah I restarted the career again and dropped my guy into the Weaklings side so that I can keep an eye on how the AI teammates perform. Was playing against Northamptonshire, which I had also edited as per the first post....As some have mentioned, there appears to be a vast difference in the way the AI bats when they're your batting partner and when you simulate. Same with bowling....I would generally come on to bowl to a batsman set on something like 87*(130) and he would play and miss as if he just got in to bat.

So first Innings: Weaklings all out for 260, a couple of 50's but nothing ridiculous. Manage to bowl out Northants for 265 (I took no wickets as was only given 3 overs to bowl) - so far so good, runrates around 2.8 rpo and no centuries. Then my optimism caved-in when the Weaklings got into their Second Innings - 455/8, two Centuries, one of which was scored by the no.8 batsman....his batting stats in CA is abysmal, so no idea how he scored so many runs.

The one positive I had was that I the one wicket I DID eventually get, happened to be an outside edge to the keeper :) Short of a length outsinger that took a solid edge to a diving keeper! Perhaps the most spectacular nicked dismissal Ive had in the game. And what's better was that it was to a no.10 batsman, dismissed for a mere 2 runs. He really did look like a total fool while batting. So I dont know...perhaps it was blind luck that I got the edge, perhaps we're onto something. What I do know is that whenever you simulate, some other AI brain kicks in which totally ignore whatever changes we make in CA.

Just ordered Ashes Cricket 09 Retail on Amazon.. Been reading about the first beta patch they released and everyone is gushing about it.. We will see

I'm afraid you're heading in the wrong direction. AC09's saving grace was online gameplay which was terminated in 2011 when the online servers were taken down. AC09 offline is nowhere close to DBC 14.

The only cricket game I stopped playing after a few weeks of purchase. Played it again a couple of years ago when I was back in the U.K. round a mates yard, turned it off within 20 minutes. Player V's player is okay, against the AI is gash. I still stand by my meme though!

Ashes 09 or IC10 is always the one I like to send people to when they moan about DBC: I am crap at batting....in Ashes I score 167 of 4.3 overs and with DBC I have two centuries to my name after a year of playing.....not to mention the fielding in Ashes which is abysmal..players watching the ball trundle over the boundary....no thanks...

Interesting, some of the same people on this thread were all over AC09.. It's only 3 pounds anyway. I'll see if it's better or not, if DBC was a physical copy it would be gathering dust now. It's too scripted and everything feels completely random. I also only bowl. I gather it is far better after a patch 1.

"Gushing" is strong.

And certainly no-one ain't gushing no more, now that they've got a superior game.[DOUBLEPOST=1431533086][/DOUBLEPOST]

Very interesting - how do you define these two things because, to many minds, these are completely contradictory statements.

Interesting, some of the same people on this thread were all over AC09.. .

Here's one of my posts from the AC09 thread:

Well i can't believe it after just 3 weeks of owning the game ive pretty much had enough of it. reloading for about the 15th time in an innings was the final straw for me, even though the game itself was going well.
So today when i got home instead of putting it on for another couple of hours of uninspiring bowling i cranked on my patched up version of ea07 instead and you know what, i actually prefer ea!! Fast bowlers bowl fast, edges carry, ai batsmen played and missed, bouncers had a bit of venom and i even got a couple of realistic bowleds, added to that i can actually look at my first innings scorecard while playing the second(incredible!) and stats are added to the players involved it has actually left me feeling that a patched up version of this is actually better than codies minimal effort.
Not that I'm an ea fan. What do other people think as i know ea has plenty of critics

Check out the Ashes09 or EA07 thread which is where this quote came from. Should tell you all you need to know.

I wondered this also

Please keep this thread for the reasons stated in the thread title....all other discussion can be had in any of the other threads available. Thanks.

Yes, I put that terribly.. When attributes make absolutely no difference to the outcome of a ball.. There is no confidence, pressure buildup, match situation, just a fixed outcome for ball line and length that has no relation to batsman skill or anything else.. Sort of like a slot machine in an arcade. The more I play it, the less I like it. But i'm not here to bash, there is a very solid foundation and it looks beautiful, and feels beautiful to play. But without any sort of sense you are playing a match.

I'm really surprised that you have come to this conclusion as I feel the bowling experience is far better than any other previous game since changing the attributes. One session can be completely different to the next due to changes in the conditions, having worn parts of a wicket/ cracks that you can target and actually make you think as to what bowler should bowl from which end and actually being able to set up batsman to name a few.

Yeah there are issues, tailenders and the fact that these changes are ignored in the career mode are two glaring ones. Match situational awareness is poor but that's been the case with every cricket game produced.

It's better with the beta patch, but the game as a whole isn't very good. If you're going for the hipster solution to not liking something about DBC14, I think Cricket 07 would be best, as it's got the most support from modders.

Just fired up DBC for the first time in quite a while as been very busy. Bowling as England to New Zealand with lineups from last test put on these settings (ish)...

Well I think I set NZ a little high, and I'm rusty and they have shot to 85-0 off 23 overs. Anderson & Stokes going to all parts, Wood & Broad doing a bit better.

No hint of an edge except a couple of cuts over the slips for 4, few play and misses, several shots that looked/sounded mistimed, one close lbw shout...

Tough going.
