Matthew Hayden quits cricket

Outstanding Cricket puts an end to a great career, Will always be remembered as one of the best

At the moment, Ben will be happiest person to see him go, he was always worried about his average. Ben wanted Haydos to end his carrer with an average of 50+ :) a great reward for a great fan :clap. Hayden ends with a average of 50.73 :hpraise

Just now I've checked cricinfo. I don't know why Matty had faced so many criticisms last year. Well, there is no denial to the fact that he didn't perform well in 2008. But, he was not a slapstick either. Last year he had played 8 ODI's, scored 298 runs, with a highest of 82 and has an average of 37.25- which is fairly good i think. And his test records in 08- 10 tests, 552 runs, 2 hundreds, and an average of 32.47- this also is quite good. 2008 was not his year, in fact it was the only year which was not his year. But still we criticised him, we used harsh words against him for failing in only a handful of test matches. And at the end, Haydos could not take it anymore and he retired. None but we are responsible for his retirement.

It is true, but you have guys gaining a mammoth amount of runs during the summer in Domestic Cricket and he just wasn't producing a game-winning innings, which is what you have to be doing to maintain your spot in such a high profile squad.

Certainly was sad seeing him tonight for possibly the last time. Even though I didn't think this was the best way for him to say farewell but it seem to work very nicely in front of a near capacity Gabba his home ground as well.

I don't think he is. Just an example of people jumping on the bandwagon, not sure Lee knows that Warner has never played a Sheffield Shield game, Warner's clearly at the bottom of the list when it comes to the Test side. I reckon even the 2 guys that bat at 3 are ahead of Warner, especially considering Warner doesn't even open in 4 Day cricket. I'd like to see Warner in the ODi and T20 sides permanently though, be really entertaining.

The name Phillip Hughes has been bandied about since the news broke of Hayden's retirement:

Since Phil Jaques is only just coming back from surgery, he will probably play in South Africa.
