Although I've never really had that much of an interest in flight sims just reading this thread makes me seriously consider getting the game.

I agree, it actually looks quite interesting. Sim games always seemed for the hardcore person, but all this talk has got me interested. The only problem would be a lack of a joystick and I wouldn't want to spend that much money only to find it boring.

Here's some happy snaps of my Qantas Airbus A330 from Sydney to Hobart which unfortunately didn't end well.

Really happy ATM though because I aced my first landing on FSX! Decided to go witha lear jet from Hobart to Launceston which is a pretty easy route.

The computer only works because of the input of the pilots. It doesn't just decide it should go to 30,000 ft.

Some of the stuff pilots do to save their planes is amazing. Check out Air Crash Investigations. Though, if you are a nervous flyer now (Get out of this thread ), you won't fly again after watching the show.

My point being you could fly a plane through computer.

my good luck seems to have run out, crashed my last 2 appraoches at Vail and then Kai Tak.

and then my computer crashed so I am reformatting and blah blah, hopefully will have it all installed again in a few hours.

Is anyone here playing fs9 (2004) or are you all on fsx?

Yeah it's free. Got it from Simivation. It does have a virtual cockpit but I fly in the normal cockpit view.

The developed addons are usually crap planes, I'd rather use the actual fs9 plane and just paint it.

Let me know if you find paintjobs or whatever they are called for any of the default Boeing Jets

Some of the free aircraft are of outstanding quality - but as you said, many of them are awful. If I could remember some to look out for, I'd let you know about them, but I uninstalled the game ages ago.

I love those beechcraft twin engines.

Let me know if you guys want to start sharing some freeware, I have some good planes and airports.

I also found a general airport improvement mod, makes all the airports smoother, more lights, vehicles etc.

Also a fantastic mod that shows all the highways and interstates in the US, makes VFR much more enjoyable.

I'm pretty sure you can download paintjobs only. I can't remember the names of the sites though - a search will find them fairly quickly; I believe simavation or something like that might be one.
