Microsoft Flight Simulator Discussion

Yea I think the Spanish have finally conceeded the airpace in recent years.

I checked the airports and they are all accuratly portrayed in the game except for that one ski jump one in France as you said, the runway is too short to take off in the game.

Also there are lots of addon sceneries for just about every airport in the world so if it is not in the vanilla game you can add it on.

I've got addons for all of Houston, all the airports in Texas etc and it looks a lot better than the regular game.

Flightsim.com is a great place for free addons.

Mark added 0 Minutes and 21 Seconds later...

oh and good luck trying to land at Lukla, its intense!

Ok my first video of the Extreme Airport series.

Madiera Airport landing in a 737-300

Sorry about the video, its just raw video right now as I make more the presentation quality will increase and I'll try to make it less boring.

Any advice on the landing is appreciated, there was a strong crosswind as there always is in Madeira

The landing is around 3 minutes and the tower view after that (for my impatient friends)

Damn, that list of airports has got me wishing that I hadn't sold the game - as I said, I only did it because I thought FS 11 would be with us by now. I'm not rebuying it, not at the price it's still at - it's an old game now, so it should have an old game's price.

Edit: Nice landing! :)

I really want to play this now... oh well, I'll have to make do with the demo for now. In future, I won't selling games from a series, until the latest one is out.

What about FS9 (fs2004) most people consider it to be better than FSX anyways and its dirt cheap on Ebay/craiglist.

The thing is, FSX looks so nice - and now I reckon I've got a system that can actually handle it at very high settings - but of course I don't have it any more :doh. :)

FS9 might be worth a look - if I can find it really cheap. :)

Regarding the new one, the cycle will probably start all over again, huh? No-one will have a machine capable of running it at the highest levels - hopefully they'll make it scaleable.

Yea the new one will probably be very graphically intense, especially since it probably won't come out till late 2011.

fs9 in full setting with addon scenery is comparable to FSX.

Oh and I found a great program called FSpassengers, this turns flightsim into a full fledged career game. You start a company with X amount of Cash, buy airplanes, charge for tickets, food etc and try to grow the company. It is very detailed, with full sounds, captains announcements. If you turn too sharply or land too hard the passengers scream in terror!

Pilots die if they crash the plane and all sorts of things. It a fantastic "career" mode.

Check it out, just google FSpassengers.

Yep, I had that for FSX and I think FS9 as well - no idea where the unlock code is now. ;)

That is the problem with these addons, they make it really hard to remember the codes and want you to buy it again and again after each re-install.

If you honestly bought it once, then I would just torrent it.

FSpassenger sounds awesome. I've got FS9 with a Thrustmaster stick. Never quite had the patience with jets! :D "I'm landing in trees, fly you damn thing!!"

I might have to hook it up on my laptop in my new place.

Maybe it's somewhere in my emails... :D

Still, doesn't matter as I haven't got the game. I just hope that the latest game has a proper career mode in it - that's what they had planned before they pulled the rug out from under Aces.

FsPassengers is an add-on for Flight Simulator that will completely revolutionize the way you fly in Flight Simulator (FSX or FS9). Here are just some of the features of FsPassengers:

* Add passengers to your flights! Finally, you're not alone in the sky.
* Passengers react to how you fly your plane. Hear them scream if you make drastic mistakes, and get their opinion of your flight in real time.
* Provide in-flight passenger services such as movies, music, and drinks.
* Make money for successful flights; be fined if you do something wrong.
* Manage an airline (make money, manage aircraft fleets, etc).
* Maintain your aircraft in good condition, otherwise you may experience unique and suprising failures.
* Create and maintain pilot careers.
* Keep detailed logs and statistics for every flight you make (great for virtual airlines).
* Fly through dangerous parts of the world, and risk the safety of your plane, crew, or passengers!
* Export your flight to your Virtual Airline.
* This add-on includes more than 200 in-flight sounds to immerse you in the ambiance of flight. Hear feedback from your co-pilot, flight attendants, passengers; listen to ATC chatter, music, GPWS, and more.
* All screens and reports work in full screen. No need to quit FS.

the main features listed on their website.

on another related note, I'm going real flying this weekend. A guy I know from cricket has a pilots license and is taking me for a short hop from Austin to a lake resort only for pilots!

I'll be sure to take my camera and snap some photos, he said he'll let me take controls for a bit once we are cruising altitude as well :)

There are "online airlines" that give you a rota of flights to do in a week. Think you have to apply to them. Have to be incredibly hardcore for that.

Comment about the landing - Very good, bar the speed. Look to be around 160-145, not 200 knots lol. At that speed you won't have to pitch the nose down to land, you'll be able to keep it level and just before touchdown, pitch up. You'll glide in.

haha thanks,

any idea what the flap setting should be for landing and take off? I am using my PIA 737 for all the airports as its the jet I am most comfortable with.

You said flap, lol.

Anyway, yes, very good landing. I'm itching to use it now, too much to do before my move on Monday!

Depends on weather, weight of the aircraft and runway length in real life. In normal conditions, with a recommended runway length for a 737 - you want 5 taking off and for landing, depends on your approach and preference. Doesn't really matter with the flaps, as long as you make sure that your not overspeed for the flaps. Otherwise they rip off lol.
