Microsoft Flight Simulator Discussion

no i meant, do you have to "Create a Flight" to play the "Princess Juliana Intl Airport" or is it available in the "Select a Flight" option ?

Select a flight is very limited, I never do that.

If I have never visited that airport before then I create an IFR flight to it. That way ATC will show you the best approach and surrounding area. Try to make it a short hop so you don't get bored waiting.

Good to see you back Mark. It brings back memories of my flightsim days: i used to spend hours preparing and flying a flight> I used real avaition charts I got from an uncle of mine and set up a very realsitc flight situation. I have flown for a number of virtual airlines as well. The amount of depth and anokarism available is amazing! Making a carefully planned and fully realistic landing using correct procedures and equpipment (flight yoke, rudder peddals and throttle!) is the most satisfying feeling! (Apart from sex, nah on second thoughts, better than sex and a little less sticky!)

I just finished Lindberg Airport San Diego, will make a video and do a small write up. Its a lot more challenging than it appears because of the blocked view on approach. Will explain more in detail in a bit.

I just wish I had a good computer, seeing some of the youtube vids of FSX in HD makes me insanely jealous.

werent you planning to buy a new PC, couple of months ago ? budget issues or just not motivating enough ? :p

It is amazing how much hardware one needs to run this game even these days. The game is more than four years old. Do you guys know the Orbix North West add-on? Simply mind boggingly beautiful. See if you can find a video of it on You Tube.

I am actually using x-plane at the moment. The graphics are less impressive but the flight dynamics are amazing and way ahead of Microsoft which is essentially a game where as xplane is actually used to train pilots and design aircraft.....

I'm still planning on building one but it won't be for a few more months

I've heard of x-plane but figured I'd stick to FS until I master it.

Never heard of that addon or any for that matter. Can you give me a list of essential/popular addons to have for fs9.

There are so many that I don't even know where to begin building on my sim.

What kind of planes do you like flying?

Cessnas mostly but I am getting into the smaller jetliners. Mostly using a 737-300 and a MD83.

I've got the San Diego video uploading on youtube right now.

The airport is challenging because there are a lot of parking garage structures right before the start of the runway. The last structure is 100 ft high and less than half a mile before the runway. Really awesome to see the structures were there in the sim, more than 10,000 airports accurately modeled. Almost unlimited fun.

anyways I do have a question about ILS. I have no idea how to use it, in the San Diego approach I had the ILS tuned into the NAV Radio so hopefully you guys can look at the video and tell me what all the purple lines mean and where they should be etc.

That was pretty impressive, got pretty close to that penultimate building and then flew right between the last two side by side. Well played :p.

You had it right. Glide slope was intercepted. Look at the airspeed indicator, next to the HSI. The white circles with the purple arrow show glideslope. Hit the middle on both and your perfect. By the look of it you were too low on approach.

Autoland - Put it on "nav" and switch on "approach" or "app". This is after intercepting glideslope. You should hear a beeping once you've intercepted the glidesclope. You control the gear, flaps, spoiler and speed. The plane will move descend at the exact rate it should.

Man I'm in love with FSX. People say gameplay is more important than graphics including myself. But FSX just looks awesome (and plays fine BTW). I love it now how I can easily see my suburb and also the City of Hobart and the mountain. Some people have done brilliant jobs with free add-ons which I'll be downlaoding more of.

post some screenies so we can see what it looks like on your system.

Also let me know if you are interested in online, fs2004 and fsx can fly together on some servers
