Microsoft Flight Simulator Discussion

This game is tough but rewarding! Hate doing the tutorials with the ultralight planes... The transition to a jet tutorial is hard. I need a joystick so bad, I can't take off to save my life. I keep stalling the plane :laugh

LOL, I can't believe people even attempt to keyboard it! It really won't be as tough when you get that joystick matey.

I have a joystick, but I really can't be bothered to keep getting the damn thing out and putting it away again - is the game at all playable with an Xbox 360 pad? I know that's not the 'done' thing, but if you can fly and land the damn thing, it'll do me. :)

Matt you NEED a joystick. If you want to learn to fly properly then get one with a rudder control as well.

I can't believe you are already onto jets man! I am still learning Instrument flight, not touching jets until I am a master instrument pilot. I fly the occasional 737 flight but its not proper, I don't know how to use ILS yet so my landings are all haphazard

Find any interesting areas of Aus to fly around ?

I found some crazy looking airports in France, runway is all of 1000ft so I can't even take off!

I might have to make the upgrade soon the FSX. Tutorials are basically finished, jsut the really hard one's left.

Can you guys land jets properly? With the proper staircase decent and ILS? Pretty bloody impressive if you can

Here is a great tutorial on VOR. Once you know how to use Triangulation, navigating is so much more fun with VORs. I can fly in 100% fog and still get to where I want to go.

ILS is easier to get than VOR. You just need the ILS frequency of the runway your landing - put into into NAV 1 and you'll get a beeping sound once you've intercepted the signal. A glidescope display shows you if your too high, too low, to the left or right of the runway. Also, the White and Red lights on the runway show if your too high or low (two red lights and two white means your perfect, more red than white - too low, more white than red - too high).

Once the flaps are extended, much easier to control a jet. Also, if your too high - use the spoilers (as long as your not overspeed) to drop altitude quickly).

Just won the auction for Flight Simualtor X on Ebay. Only had to pay $20. Should arrive during the week.

Nah, I shouldn't be doing jets. Just wanted to see what it was like in that one particular tutorial.

Joystick coming on friday :D

Borrowed the FSX cd from my friend and installed it on my laptop. It runs pretty smooth on mediumish graphics. But there is a problem. After I installed it and entered the product key, it said the product key has been used the maximum number of times. So I had to play 30 minute trials each time. I only played FSX twice before and that was at my friend's house. I started with a Boeing 747 and it was really hard. Then I switched to some Bombardier plane.

I'm back, mostly for this thread.

Anyhow I saw a program on History channel the other day called "Most Extreme Airports"

So I planned on visiting all of them in flight sim, I also got fraps so I can take video of all my landings and hopefully get some critiques from you guys.

Quick question: What should flap settings be on a 737 for take off and landing?

1st airport I will be hitting is Madeira outside of Portugal.

I was about to post about that program - it was on More 4 or something the other day - I doubt if all those airports are accurately modelled in the game though, especially that one halfway up a mountain in France!!

And what's Spain's problem? Because Britain owns Gibraltar, they've made a no fly zone at either end of the runway - a Spanish airspace zone: this is making landings and take offs much more dangerous than they need to be.
