Lee Sweetman was today offically presented as Droylsden FC's new manager for the conference National season.

Droylsden fc won promotion to the conference for the first time in 115 years last season and lee Sweetman has been brought in to keep them up, and ulitmatly get Droylsden into League 2.

Chariman Dave Pace had this to say today: "I think that Lee Sweetman has the potential to get us up to our ultimate Dream which is to acheive League 2 football. Lee watched the club since he was 14, and although he hasnt managed before in football, he has potential."

Lee Sweetman told us, that after a lot of rumours that Jody Banim, Terry Fearns and Paul Phillips would be tempted away from the butchers Arms, he has managed to persuade them to stay. The players that won the conference North and got Droylsden into the conference, and have survived are: Paul Phillips, Jimmy Williams, Steve Halford, Gareth Morris, James Tandy, Terry Fearns, Robbie Talbot, Jody Banim, Chris Denham and Steve Daly.

Lee Sweetman had this to say "I think we have quality in the side that can get us into League 2, however i think it will be a hard fight.

Friendly Game:

friendlyvshydeme3.jpg

Droylsden opened up with a easy win against Conference North Side Hyde United who hardly looked like scoring.

In this Tameside Derby, Droylsden started the stronger with veteran Lee Sharpe hitting the bar after only 2 minutes. However Terry Fearns opened the scoring after 28 mintues. Jody bainm with a long crossfield pass found Fearns unmarked at the corner of the box and he easily slotted past the helpless Hyde 'keeper.

Droylsden kept up the pressure and for the whole game kept going close. Lee Sharpe scored, only to see his goal be ruled out for offside.

Then, after 89 minutes, Gareth Morris finished it for Droylsden, he received the ball on his right, shimmed past 1 defender and placed the ball right footed into the top corner past the helpless 'keeper.

After all the build up, the first game of the season was upon us. Droylsden and Northwich Victoria faced up to each other in the first game of the season. Coming into the game Droylsden were delt a hard blow when defender Greg Strong was ruled out for between 2 weeks and 3 months with a broken cheek bone.

The odds were:

Northwich 1-33 (F)
Draw 20-1
Droylsden 150-1

In the End Northwich who have been in this league for over 5 seasons proved too strong for Part-timers Droylsden.
With a narrow 2-1 Loss to Northwhich in the first game, Droylsden were looking for a bit more luck at the Pirelli Stadium.

Team Line up for Droylsden:
P.Phillips
C.Cryan (Capt)
L.Murray
S.Halford
A.Dugdale
P.Tilley
C.Denham
G.Murphy
L.Mackin
R.Talbot
S.Daly

However in the End it was another loss for Droylsden with Aaron Webster scoring 2 free kicks from 20yards+ inside the first 10 Minutes. After the game, Lee Sweetman had this to say: ?I am pleased with the way the lads responded after going 2-0 down, however looking at the replay, I don?t think the 2nd free kick should have been a foul he (A.Dugdale) clearly won the ball, so that im not happy about, also im a bit gutted we didn?t get anything out of this game, I think we deserved at least a point?

*I WILL PLAY 5 GAMES, AND THEN POST THE LEAGUE TABLE*

After 2 straight losses in a row, Droylsden hosted Rushden, who were on a 2 game win streak:

However, it was not meant to be, and when Jamie McGuire was sent off, there was never any doubt.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

3 Losses from 3, and all was longing bad for Droylsden, then they hosted high flying Torquay, Could they cause an upset here?

It was just not meant to be and Torquay proved too strong for Part time Droylsden

Just thought I would tell you, with my Newcastle team on FM08 my under 18s just hammered Droylsden under 18's. :D

Im going to do the 5th game in a minute and then post the table. :noway

After 4 straight losses in a row, Droylsden headed up to Stevenage to face the in form team.

Droylsden went 2-0 and had a dream start after Simon Weatherstone (on his debut) had scored 2 goals.

So, after 5 games, the table looked like this:

leaguetableweek5be0.jpg

After throwing away the 2 goal lead at Stevenage, Droylsden knew they would have been in 19th place on goal difference.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Droylsden then hosted Grays and were looking to lift themseleves of the foot of the table.

Droylsden had finally done it, after 6 games, they had picked up there first ever win in the conference Premier. After the game, Lee Sweetman had this to say: "Im over the moon with the Lads, we have brought in 2 players from Weymouth and Stevenage, and they have made an great impact. Lets hope this can be the starting point of Droylsden FC's Season!"
