MS Dhoni-Hack or Star?

Dhoni, Kaarthik and Patel - I can guarantee that in 10 years these three will be the mainstays of our Indian batting lineup. Dhoni would take up bowling fast-medium pacers off a 8 pace run, Parthiv woul be too traumatised to keep wicket or field in slips, or anywhere behind the stumps, and would be our specialist sweeper fielder, and DDK will be keeping wicket.

I presume Parthiv would be opening the batting and scoring sixes over third man just like in BLIC. ;) I think Dhoni is set to go into bollywood if the cricket thing doesn't work out. And KKD, well, he'll just be leftovers.

I'm kind of curious as to who the A Deshpande in the ICC series is--he seems to be doing well in the game. :D

Dhoni is great from what i've seen, gonna be a big star. Star of indian cricket atm though imo, is Sree Sreesanth, he is just amazing with the ball and he is so charismatic, he is going to be a big star in the WC, amazing bowling and brilliant bat twirling skills :P

He is Shantaram Sreesanth.

I like Dhoni, but I've always preferred Karthik over him. I liked Karthik since he came to the team. I think I remember a stumping of his in a match in England, where he took the ball from way down the leg side and got some one out.

I think most importantly, we should look at the attitude of a player. Karthik may not have the hitting talent that Dhoni has, but Karthik is a very sensible guy. Dhoni tries to be a rock star on the field a bit too often for comfort.

It'll be a nice battle for the keeper's slot. I hope we don't see Parthiv Patel again. He messed up a catch and stumping in Sydney in 2004 and we lost a great opportunity to win the series 2-1. I hope he is kept out for his entire life just because of his poor keeping back then.

The worst keeper to have played the game is definitely Deep Dasgupta. At one time in India's 2001 WI tour, he missed 2 straight low catches off Kumble.

this karthick is better than dhoni

why not just keep dhoni for odi's?
There may be merit to this idea. Karthik has played well in the one test in South Africa, but I think the selectors still have higher confidence in Dhoni. Also, our next test series is.... after the World Cup?

Just a bit of stats which I got off Pakpassion (Thanks to zaf1986):
HTML:
Name Mat Runs Ave W Ave Ct St Dis Team

GO Jones 11 220 12.94 - - 46 2 48 ENG
MS Dhoni 12 557 29.31 - - 36 8 44 IND
MV Boucher 11 544 27.20 - - 43 - 43 RSA
Kamran Akmal 12 606 40.40 - - 37 5 42 PAK
AC Gilchrist 10 459 38.25 - - 35 4 39 AUS
D Ramdin 10 298 22.92 - - 25 1 26 WI
BB McCullum 8 264 24.00 - - 22 2 24 NZ
KC Sangakkara 11 1242 69.00 - - 20 2 22 SL

here we are moaning about akmal while hes been the best specialist keeper in the whole world this year..

and before anyone says sanga..

hes not the specialist keeper

his last few tests have been as a specialist batsman

I will rate Gilchrist first,Boucher second,Akmal third and Sangakkara fourth for test matches.Dhoni hasn't done anything special in tests.

I'd rate, for current players:
Sanga
Gilly
Boucher
Mashud
DDK
Dhoni
Mcullum
Read
Akmal
GoJo

Akmal is so low due to recent bad form, but he does have a lot of talent. That, or his start to his career was just a flash in the pan...

Unrelated to the subject, why do you call Dinesh Karthik DDK? His name is Krishnakumar Dinesh Karthik, isn't it?

I don't know, read DDK somewhere and it kinda stuck. I think it was DDK Karthik on Cricinfo once or something...

I'd rate Sangakarra second on that list, agree with the rest.
