yes. unfortunatly we were also a bowler down (mcgrath out) and we have been 3 or 4 batsman down all series (hayden, martyn, gilchrist, katich)

I voted for Warne as he simply should be, but i dont think he will be! He has a far superior cricketing mind to any of the australian players, Much better captain than ponting he would be.

At least Tait has got a run in test cricket now. I still don't understand why Bracken wasn't brought into the side. If Hoggard could cause so much damage with the swing Bracken would have been the same. 7/4 now that is some damage in swinging condtions.

I remember Bracken from the last ashes in Australia, didn't he make his debut in that series?
There was a lot of talk about him but he does not seem to have made much impact on the national side.
Is he injury prone or just not lived up to potential?

In that game you sure him he was out of sorts. He only was moving the ball across the right handers cause that was what worked in ODIs. I think he now has that swing back into the right handers again. That 7/4 came last season.

I think that this has been the first big series for Ricky . Gilchrist captained the Aussie side when they were in India for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and the only test Ponting came back s captain `Australia Lost` . Gilchrist impressed me with his field placings in India and finally conquered the final frontier after 35 long years .
But I do not think that Ponting should face the axe just because of one bad series . He will get better with time .

Ponting has been undoubtedly a very good captain but I think aussies need a change at their captain's position to bring new ideas and plans and enthusiasm in aussies side, someone like clarke or katich.

I don't know on Katich opening. Might be good and I guess he won't have to worry about reverse swing. I would much rather had hussey in the side. Watson won't play unless MacGill does.

Ponting wont get dropped. He hasnt done anything wrong, his side has let him down. Not all of the side have been poor, just a select few. And it is hardly the demise of Australia, they are 2-1 down in a test series which they are playing overseas at the end of a 3 month tour.
Watch out England, the Oval will be something you havent seen this series. THe fourth innings of the 4th test, England were 7-129. It's not as though they are now a bad team. They are up against a team playing better.

I agree with the fact that his side has let him down, but Pointing has made bad decisions throughout the tour. Having said that their is no chance (unless he resigns) that he won't be captain after this series. I would go with Gilchrist for the next captain.

Ponting should saty as captain. Its not his fault that his team is out of form. That 156 in the 3rd test should prove how seriously he wants to win this series.

We're not talking about his skill as a batsman but his skill as a captain and yes the captain should bear some responsibility for the fact his team is out of form.
