Well Ponting says he's not going to resign. Any thoughts from the Aussies here on whether you think he should or not?

If we could, Warne would get the job hands down, but that's not going to happen, and there's no use giving it to any of the other players in the team

no he doesnt need to resign. the middle order just need to stand up. if the middler order showed any fight and backbone in the test series (as well as the openers doing the same) then the outcome i feel would have been very different. the bowling was superb. they just needed runs

Warne and McGrath were superb you mean, nobody else

Should he resign? Not as a reaction to the series loss, his captaincy hasn't been any worse than its normal degree of crapness- besides, who gets it? Warne and Gilchrist are the better options, and they'll both be gone in a couple of years, there's no point

I voted for langer, cos i think there are about 6 name there who should be dropped~:

Matthew Hayden
Damien Martyn
Simon Katich
Adam Gilchrist
Jason Gillespie
Michael Kasprovicz

Out of the rest :

McGrath ..too old no long term future as captain.

Clarke ..to young/inexperinced and bats to irresponsibly.

warne.. will never happen..too many "off field antics"

Only a fool would drop Martyn, Gilly and Hayden. Langer for me.

Why? They're past their best and preventing younger players from coming through. Maybe not axe all three straight away but they're all candidates for imminent replacement.

Gilchrist is rated the best w/k batsman ever, no way in hell could any team drop him.

Hayden is a bit shaky, i think he needs some time in the ING/Pura Cup.

And Martyn...hmm, hasnt scored a ton for a looooong time, he to should go back to the county.

Martyn was the 2nd highest run scorer in 2004, only behind team mate Justin Langer. He and Gilchrist who is just class, won't be dropped for having one bad series. Katich's place is under fire, and that knock from Hayden will cement his place in the team for another 10 tests unfortunately

Hayden showed his will and grit at Oval, Gilchrist just was in poor form and got found out by Vaughan and his bowlers. Martyn got a couple of rough decisions but has been out of touch but has also been a rock for Australia for ages.

yeah sorry thats what i meant. although i thought lee was a much better bowler with mcgrath at the other end. it will be interesting to see how the aussies match up against the world xi on home soil

Martyn's place is starting to look shakey. He won't be dumped before the end of the summer but if he performs like this he can book the captaincy at WA as he won't be needed for Aus anymore.

god, why would you drop langer? i do have a bias towards him but he was undoubtly the best aus batsman, shown by his run tally? and averaged 43 more than your 'one man team' i mean flintoff

I think he's saying he'd have Langer for captain.
