New Delhi Commonwealth Games 2010.

No third world country should get the Olympics.

While I agree that India made a complete mess as far as the CWG is concerned, the last statement is just extreme. If we can sort out issues of corruption inside the Indian Olympic Association, and ensure a more transparent administration, there's no reason why we shouldn't be hosting the Olympics. We need it to promote sports in the country and give international exposure to budding talents. CWG failed only because of mass corruption inside the CWG OC, and lack of a nodal point of authority facilitating co-operation amongst multiple bodies working together. If these issues can be solved, and I'm sure that they will be considering how our media has blown the lid off this whole thing, Indians have the ability to host any event of any magnitude.

And I can't believe people still use outdated and frivolous terms like "third world" and "first world" whilst referring to a country.

EDIT: I just came across this:

New Zealand TV host ridicules Delhi CM - Ahmedabad Mirror,Ahmedabad Mirror

A New Zealand TV station which had recently suspended one of its show hosts for a racial slur on the country’s governor-general, has come in for fresh trouble after it featured a clip on its website ridiculing the name of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.

The dip ████ woman. God, what’s her name? Dick ████. Is it D**k S**t... it looks like ‘D**k S**t’. It’s so appropriate, because she’s Indian, so she’d be d**k-in-s**t wouldn’t she, do you know what I mean? Walking along the street ... it’s just so funny.

:facepalm

Yea I don't like the guy personally. Lots of my friends love him though.

I don't feel like saying anything about that, since It's common to see many Indians themselves hurling abuses at the ministers. Though the only difference here is that the guy is educated.

Geez that lady commentator for the swimming in NZ is so annoying. Voice is annoying and far too loud with the celebration of a medal. Never had a commentator clapping their hands and jumping up and down like a crazy manic. Preferred the one they had at the Beijing Olympics.

I think she's actually our swimming coach? Not too sure.

Yup Mark.

Aussies have very multi cultural teams. Saw players of Chinese origin in table tennis and former Russia in wrestling.

One girl in table tennis had name Miao Miao. :laugh

Apparantly Miao Miao speaks Polish as well. :laugh And her parents used to sportive as well.

Here is another problem. Also I've read there were poisonous snakes found in the athlete village and a bridge fell down.

Commonwealth Games 2010: Ill swimmers force pool probe

Commonwealth Games officials are to investigate whether the quality of the water in the practice pool is causing illness among the swimmers.

England's team leader John Atkinson said 20% of the swim team, including Rebecca Adlington and Fran Halsall, have suffered with stomach problems.

Australia are blaming the practice pool for several of their team being ill.

You don't need pool for Delhi Belly. :laugh

We need someone to come up in athletics to kick start it. We have found good players in Wrestling, Boxing, Archery, Badminton, Weightlifting, Table Tennis and of course shooting. These will be events where new players are coming through and the exposure in these games will do them a lot good. Its just giving them name in country where even half decent cricket player becomes star over night.

Some of regions have specialized in producing similar players:
Haryana: Boxing and Wrestling
Hyderabad: Tennis and Badminton
Jharkhand: Archery
Metros: Shooters
Kerala: track and field athletes

Need good swimmers now to expand the field.

Hockey men continue to fail. :p

Another hiccup? Oh God! :facepalm

I still am confident that we can pull off a sound Olympics or a similar event of that magnitude if given a chance, but first and foremost, Kalmadi needs to be thrown behind the bars instantaneously after the Games are over. We had the manpower, the funds, the resources and the everything to make this event a success and project it as a coming out party for world's latest economic power, but that one guy along with his stooges have ensured that our image is dented irreparably.

Its going fine. Chill out.

Sorry KC but if you think India can successfully host an Olympics, I'm not sure what you are basing that on. The Olympics are 10 times bigger than this, and its safe to say these games are a muck up. Whether or not they get everything fixed at the last second is moot, they should have finished preps months ago.

I'm just glad there are no safety/terrorism issues, Indian police seem to have stepped it up since Mumbai attacks, hopefully they are also better equipped.

How about using Bisleri in pool? :laugh

These Games are a failure only because of mass corruption in the body which was supposed to oversee preparations and tasked with building infrastructure. If this one issue can be settled, and the person who's responsible for this muck (Kalmadi) be taught a lesson, other stuff will automatically be solved. It's not that we lacked the manpower or money, our problem here was the dire need of an efficient administrative body which wouldn't be so lackadaisical in their approach.

I don't think it will be justified to sum up the capability of India as a host by seeing just the CWG. If you dig history, you'll find that we could host the Asiad, the second largest sporting event after the Olympics, rather successfully way back in the 1980s when everything had to developed from scratch as we neither had a strong economy, nor a sound infrastructure. Like I said, the only reason India couldn't emulate the glory of the Asiad is because of a highly corrupt person at the helm of affairs. If we can throw him and his stooges out of the IOA, and infuse more transparency (a big if remains though), there's no reason why we shouldn't be successful in organizing the Olympics in India.

Wow just saw that video of that kiwi. It would be one thing if he was making proper jokes but this guy was just making childish jokes about her name. It was sheer racist humor, anyone who found that funny must have a very low IQ.

Even his co-anchors were looking embarrassed. Really sad if that is what flies as humor in NZ.

The crowds have been dreadful so far, was watching some track and field and there was next to no one even for the night session. That isn't looked upon kindly when going for your Olympic bid.
